Anyone play the FFVII Remake demo? Yes Played it sunday and loved every minute, which I didn't expect. Found the battle system vaguely similar to secret of mana (which I also love) so it didnt feel as jarring as I thought it would. Midgar looks stunning, the OST is out of the park!

I did watch the final trailer though. Nope. I was avoiding it. FF13 is my least favorite FF so anything taken from that game is a big no-no for me. I was trying to avoid spoilers but the internet basically made that impossible. I also didn't think there'd be much to spoil about a remake, but I've been constantly proven wrong on that front.

I only watch the official stuff so I've played the demo and watched the videos they produced. I can't wait. It's a new game and a lot of new story.

I'm a lot less worried about the gameplay than I am the story, but for an "action game" it looks incredibly button mashy. Doesn't look like it has nearly the depth as say, a Devil May Cry.

Oh definitely not DMC (any iteration of it). I got a Mass Effect/Dragon Age feel (when in tactical and definitely in Classic mode which sadly is easy mode but I don't care - that's what I'm going to play). 13's combat was still somewhat turned based but this is wholly different. The fact that you can control all of the playable characters (the 4 you would think) and each of them plays completely different from each other is what was good from what I saw. The original launch footage from 5 years ago only had Cloud and the rest were AI controlled. These you can switch at will and combo with each other. While 13 allowed you to switch it doesn't feel the same way at all. In addition, depending which mode you play you can do this without slowing anything down. Since you mentioned that you prefer a more engaging play style I do think you'll find this interesting. The little I read, Tifa seems to be closer to the type of play style you like. It's not a Platinum game but this is not a typical Square game IMO. This actually feels different. I don't get a KH vibe at all and definitely not a 15 style (which I loathed). It's a mix of a lot of different inspirations and feels unique. It's not perfect (I do miss the original mode but I gave that up a long time ago when I realized they were going for action so I won't beat a dead horse) but so far the reviews are excellent and those who HAVE played (for various reasons) really enjoy it and are having fun with the post game. I'm happy with the length of game that has been reported and I intend to take my time and extend that.

So seeing as how you said you've been watching the trailers... did you watch the most recent trailer? And what do you think about the last few seconds of it?

So seeing as how you said you've been watching the trailers... did you watch the most recent trailer? And what do you think about the last few seconds of it? The uh.. Absolutely that's is definitely Zack reference ? I suspect a lot of dream sequences instead of "the voice". Seems they are going down a totally different path and setting up more stuff for the other games. In the end I think it's good they are diverting from the path a bit and adding to what we already know. If they stayed on a straight path there's nothing to look forward to for us vets and we won't theory craft. Hell that trailer alone there's a BUNCH of theory crafting. We don't know for sure.. but we know.. but how the hell are they going to do that.. to it was him.. no it was him.. why are they showing that.. is that the lifrestream.. is that a dream.. is that the last frame of the game.. is that way in the beginning.. is that when he was talking to Tifa and he thought it was him but it is him.. but it's not.. see? I liked it. I did jump out of my seat when I saw it. I'm still processing the whole Barret/Sephiroth part.. because THAT totally didn't happen in the original. Checking my UPS tracking and my package IS in New Jersey so I should get it tomorrow. I plan on streaming it but will abide by the street date and probably play it overnight/Friday morning. Depends on how I'm feeling. I'll probably do an unboxing video for the First Class. Seems people like it.

How would you feel if that was the case? I.E., this game is not only making minor changes but rather MASSIVE changes to the original.
If Zach is alive, that leads me to believe it's not even out of question that Aerith lives. This is fundamentally a different story.

If Zach is alive, that leads me to believe it's not even out of question that Aerith lives. This is fundamentally a different story. Noooooo. no way he's alive. The most I see is that they tease him for the next set of games. The thing that is different is that he was unhurt there (in every iteration he was shot - original game was a couple quick bursts.. in Crisis Core was this dramatic a** send off in a hail of bullets in a rainstorm. If anything what I see is that Cloud is reminiscing and thinks HE was the one standing there (he is after all wearing Zacks clothes and thinks he was Zack. The thing also is that there's this haze/lifestream floating around in the scene so it's making me think it's a dream sequence. You'll probably get your gift of Jenova/Sephiroth utterly messing with his mind. I see that more than anything. Zack is the big a** reveal at the end of the game after Mideal. There's no way they will spoil that. The rest of the story even the Nibelheim stuff is backstory but the identity of Cloud is HUGE. I think they did that to absolutely screw with the Veterans of the games because they will tune in to the next games to see OMG ZACK AAAHHHH. It's a tease and a big one because most of the reaction videos I saw EVERYONE went berserk when they saw that.
Also.. If Aerith lives there will be riots.. No way they are going to screw that up. If anything they will milk her for this game and the next (because she's totally dead next game.. City of the Ancients is pretty early - disk 1) and make her death DEVASTATING. Hell.. Look what they are doing with AVALANCHE. Most people didn't care in the original or even forgot about Jessie, Biggs and Wedge.. now.. not so much. New people are going to be gutted they die. They won't mess with the story's main points. It's the peripheral they will absolutely change and add to. Main points of Cloud/Sephiroth/Aerith/Zack will stay as they are but tweaked to add more context. I'll eat a shoe if anything changes fundamentally. No point of hunting for Black Materia if White Materia holder is alive.. You are right.. TOTALLY different story if that happens. They assured they won't change the fundamentals but will tweak the story around it. I'm looking forward to it!

I hope you're right, but if they do screw with the story don't say I didn't warn ya. I do not trust Nomura. That dude has burned me more times than I can count. Have you played Kingdom Hearts?

I absolutely agree with you. ♥ Yeah I was freaking out when they said Nomura was directing it.. I think a few pages back (going back years) I was bitching that they had to FIRE him from FF15 just to get the damn game out the door.. I was terrified he was not only involved but actually directing. Then I calmed down when I realized that the original director was now producer and the iron-man in SquareEnix (Yoshida from FF14 fame) was hired to keep the project on track. Then I kept reading about vets to the series coming back to make this series and I stopped worrying. You are right though that it could all be a smoke screen but with Kitase being the lead front man (original director now producer and general spokesperson) I'm taking his word that although the journey of how we get there may have more forks (and probably more plot holes tbh ) it will still have the core fundamental story intact. They got ROASTED in Japan when this game was announced and even threatened them to not touch FF6 (which is the gold standard in Japan) if they eff up and change FF7. Kitase was crystal clear that they won't mess that up (probably hoping to remake 6 in which case that would holy crap news on a world scale if they do.. omg not Nomura though..). I even remember the commercial they put out and there was a line about "omg Aerith.. you think they will change that?" and they brushed it off. SquareEnix wrote that line of dialogue so they are supremely aware people are looking into the core aspects of this game being super important. The addition of characters and other lines of story I'm sure people will be fine.. but CHANGING the story.. including the last bit of that trailer.. yeah.. there will be riots. TBH if that was in the game.. given it's been out a week in Europe, we would have heard it by now even with our filters if they changed the story. 1 more day. It's on a UPS truck so I'll get it today. Crossing fingers.. As for Kingdom Hearts.. I have the original PS game shrink wrapped and the book it came with. I never played it. I bought it (preordered) and then after playing the demo I hated the combat and never opened the game.. I have since seen just about every story of the convoluted wtf story this thing tries to say. Saw the massive influence of Disney stripping away everything else.. and heard the outcry of KH3 debacle. So yeah. I'm intimately familiar with the franchise and Nomura's part in it. ETA: Unboxing video of the First Class Edition. No gameplay just the contents of the First Class.

So uh.. if anyone is questioning how many liberties they took with adding to the story? I present this..

I am up to the beginning of Chapter 4 as I write this. I'll stream probably again sometime overnight or tomorrow. Been editing the stream videos from Twitch. I actually went back and redid Chapter 3 because it had farming capabilities so I went back to an old safe and redid it and grinded out several levels and maxed out a couple materia.. ehem..
