Just hoping this Ever Crisis is good and actually covers the original game. It sounds like it's chapter based so I'm assuming a lot of stuff will be cut. Combat looks different too. Also no chance in hell I'm gonna play it on my phone, but I am cautiously optimistic for now. Not gonna play the remakes of Dirge, AC, BC, or CC though Also, as much as remake made me mad, I like Yuffie way too much to not buy the probably $30 DLC. Ugh.

Well I haven't finished the Remake past what I have in my channel. LOL I should get back to that. My husband did finish it and plans to going for the platinum. As for the DLC I don't have a PS5 so that's a moot point. I'd like to get it but I don't have a PS5 and I usually don't play the first gen of any console because they are notorious to go wrong in some way or are greatly outpaced by subsequent versions (as is natural with new tech). As for the phone games.. I may get it on my Ipad since it seems to be turned based. You are right though.. this SCREAMS a switch port since there's no hope for a good copy of 7R to hit the Switch.. like.. ever. LOL The release of the chapters and the price they want for each chapter (since they are calling it a service) has me worried but we have a whole year or so until it comes out. I love the chibi versions and I expect a retcon again (since they did say it's a remake as well) since they plan to shove everything and the kitchen sink into this thing. I mean.. a game of Advent Children I'm actually looking forward to until I remember the part with the kids.. I mean.. we get to play at the crazy Sephi-triplets? Though playing as the Turks should be interesting. Edit: I have only watched the previous games. I HATED the gameplay of Dirge and it was painful to watch even if Vincent is my favorite of the FF7 Characters.. they totally did him dirty with that horrible story and even worse "gameplay". Weiss is just.. uuuuuuuuuugh.. he's annoying but totally a Nomura character. No wonder he managed to shove him in VR for Part of of 7R. Glad he's no longer directing though. That's a relief yet him still being creative director only gives him free reign to add more stupid stuff. LOL Crisis Core also watched a compilation because GACKT is friggin' annoying even if I find the concept of Genesis as a character interesting. The other one was a phone game in Japan? I've only seen cutscenes of it I think (if that is the "anime" I saw.. now I have them confused). We are not discussing First Soldier...

Well, not on my phone anyway. I don't like any of the FF7 expanded universe. AC has fun action sequences at set pieces, but the story is a disaster. Before Crisis I know very little about, but I can't imagine it's very good as an early phone game. Dirge I hate. Crisis Core is pretty dumb too though it has moments... And yeah, I forgot the dlc was PS5 exclusive... pretty s***ty of them (I do have a ps5 though). But it makes me think the future installments of remake won't be coming out on PS4. No real reason to make the DLC exclusive otherwise. Seems like they are trying to rip off that bandaid now. Also happy Nomura is no longer directing, but I'm sure his finger prints will be over the rest of the games regardless. At least I have my expectations in check going forward. They can't pull the wool over my eyes twice, lol. But yeah, hoping Ever Crisis is good. I hope the episodic nature doesn't mean large portions of the OG are cut out. I've always wanted an upscaled version of FF7 that I could recommend to my friends (since so many people won't even touch the original due to its graphics). Was hoping remake would be that but it's kind of hard to recommend to first timers.

I've always wanted an upscaled version of FF7 that I could recommend to my friends (since so many people won't even touch the original due to its graphics). Was hoping remake would be that but it's kind of hard to recommend to first timers. Absolutely understand that! Do know they already said Ever Crisis is going to be a reboot so it's not quite the original as it shows the same gameplay from 7R and has Aerith fighting the first reactor boss Still I do understand that your friends (and many before my generation) won't touch the original because of it's (then-state of the art) graphics. The chapter thing is kind of confusing me only because they said all of them will have a chapter of itself on it's own every month.. going concurrently.. so a chapter of Advent Children going along Before Crisis and Crisis Core? I mean Dirge is worse because that is canonically last in the timeline.. wtf.. They really ought to do it in order so new fans will know wtf is going on.. it makes no sense to do it all at the same time.. I also worry that if they are planning on doing that the pace of stories will come out really slow as to not mess up 7R's release. Unless they don't plan to put some of the stories in 7R (which I'm totally fine with.. they can keep Weiss as an optional boss fight in VR instead of thrown into the game.. uuuuuuugh.. along with the Deep Ground stuff) I'd actually encourage you to find a YouTube video that has just the cutscenes of the previous universe games so you get the whole story. I don't remember Before Crisis much (since that was Japan exclusive and I only saw fan subs) but Crisis Core and Dirge had some story elements that were fine. The Zac and Sephiroth stuff from Crisis were worth the view as you see Sephiroth before he went bonkers. Totally different person. Even the Genesis stuff will explain the whole thing about Hojo's experiments.. even if they totally made the character and actual pop idol.. I mean.. they aren't bringing him back right? I don't think they have the money to pay for those licensing fees.. Advent Children I actually like. I recently purchased the definitive edition (which I didn't even know was a thing until I saw a Max video on it) and the parts they cut actually made the story make a HELL of a lot more sense. I remember owning the bootleg copy (because I had no idea they would release it outside of Japan), buying the original copy (which most people saw) but didn't buy the subsequent copies (because I thought they were just rereleases not an actual extended edition). If you haven't seen it I'd recommend looking for it. It really makes the story a lot more palatable. Agreed with Nomura. Given your experience with Kingdom Hearts I understand not liking Nomura. Seems all the weird stuff comes from that warped mind of his.. so now that we know 7R is a total reboot (instead of a remake) I'm okay with what they throw at me. I'm actually looking forward to it. Seems the original writing team and original director are having a ball being able to retell the story they wanted without the constraints of shoving everything in one game like the original. I'm okay if they changed it (given how divergent all of the other stories are) and being told from the onset makes me not mad that they did. It's their story, the original is still there and actively promoted (and on everything including a toaster) and they told us up front. It's not like LOTR for me where they said it was going to be faithful to the original and then promptly screwed us long-time Tolkien fans. Eyes wide open now.

It's not like LOTR for me where they said it was going to be faithful to the original and then promptly screwed us long-time Tolkien fans. Eyes wide open now. The irony is that KH1 is one of my favorite games of all time along with FF7 which he had a significant role in. I don't hate Nomura, I just see him as a George Lucas esque character that needs to have his ideas reigned in a bit. Speaking to Aerith being in the reactor and using Leviathan, I actually think that's a reference to the original FF7 demo. I'm thinking that's just an easter egg they threw in to the trailer. Just hoping the gameplay is good because it looks like a simplified version of FF7's combat - which would make sense for a phone game. Scrolling through menus wouldn't work well in that format. I love the combat in the original though. About it being a total reboot... well, I kind of disagree that they were upfront about it. I mean, the game is called "remake." I didn't expect a 1:1 recreation, but I sure as hell wasn't expecting those last few chapters... lol. I can't even begin to describe the reaction I had playing those portions. Looking back at interviews they definitely dropped some hints, but I also think they were banking on playing with people's expectations and leaving them with a bunch of plot twists that made them go "wtf?" In a way, I respect the gall of them to pull that kind of stunt, and being more upfront would have ruined the surprise - for better or worse. And to be clear, I am specifically talking about the ending. The little changes and story expansions along the way I totally expected. It was just that last chapter (though, it re-contextualizes the entire game). But either way, at least now I definitively know what they are going for and can set my expectations accordingly while hoping it won't go too off the rails.

Bada you know I played the demo in real time? I was a married adult when this game came out. Being in the demo still doesn't change the idea that they put Aerith in the first reactor before their official canonical meeting. Also they said it in their own marketing just now that this is a remake/reboot. (Personally the word is semantics since they are translating that word anyway - it's a re-imagine). Like you I'm fine with them changing the story but hoping it doesn't go off the rails. I'll still say it, the original story had a cubic butt-ton of problems and plot holes and them piling on and retconning their own stuff partway through production and especially subsequent games and other media in that universe. I'm fine. I knew that going in. I remember them saying it's not a 1:1 from the very first trailer at E3. The subsequent interviews were SUPER clear because they knew it would be impossible to recreate the nostalgia. The trailer itself said some worry about what will come but whatever it is rejoice they are coming back. They didn't have to tell me they were changing the story. It was pretty clear to me. As for specifics yeah it would have ruined the surprise.. but I knew surprises were coming. They outright said the battle system change wasn't the one people will be talking about by the time the game came out. As for the end of the game which I've pretty much spoiled myself simply because so much time had passed and I haven't finished the game (depression has a way of sapping energy and desire for everything) I just laughed. Kitase said in recent interviews that is what they were hoping for. They wanted the discussion and they LOVE the fan theories. They did say that the game from now on will mirror closer to the original but didn't quash anything more than that. The set up and delivery of the ending was meant on purpose to confuse people because they wanted to set up for a different surprise later in the series. I expected something like that given that the "surprise" in the original was Zack. It's been 20 years.. there is no surprise with that anymore so they came up with something else. I for one am looking forward to it. As for Nomura. I don't hate him either. I'm just happy he's not directing because he brainstorms and keeps throwing stuff up at the dartboard. Every game he's ever directed was delayed to hell because of it. I'm glad Yoshida from Dragon Quest/FFXIV and now FFXVI is there to reassign people and keep the project on track and on budget. That's what he was hired to do. And it's working!

I just don't personally like it Yeah, I heard what they said to expect about future games. I won't let them fool me twice though. I mean, if they're telling the truth that's great, but I'm not assuming anything at this point. I'm hoping a lot of that stuff was just a weird meta-explanation for the events of the remake and it doesn't go too far beyond that. But again, I also will not be surprised at anything that happens now. At the very least I'm hoping they're fun to play. My problem with Kingdom Hearts was that the gameplay and the story started to suck, so they became 60 hour slogs to get through. FF7 Remake I enjoyed enough of the mechanics that I'd be fine playing it even if there was no story (granted they cut back on the sections where I have to hold forward and slowly walk behind someone for five minutes while they talk to me). Yoshida is a blessing, and I wish I had the free-time to play FF14.
