I find that every single person I've talked to that says Gen 3 is their favorite, it's because that was their first pokemon game.
Anybody that started with gen 1 or gen 2 tends to not like it as much.
Gen 1 can be considered "best" because it was the original, and very groundbreaking at the time. It created the formula. Though most people consider gen 2 the best because it did the most to enhance the franchise and "perfected" the formula. Gen 3, 4, and 5 all did very little to advance the game. Gen 6 is the first to really shake things up, and still it's mostly aesthetic changes.

No drug tests, but there was a competitor that made it to semis that they didn't let compete because they found out he had been arrested in the past for possession of Marijuana.

I actually like the propeller obstacle. I thought it was pretty creative.

Oh I agree that they should run them in the same order, that makes the most sense to me - keeps everything consistent. Yes they would've had to wait anyway, but considering how freaking slow NBC runs their show sometimes, the different between going first and going 5th is freaking massive. It could be hours. The difference between going first and 19th would be huuuuuuuge. I don't know where Brian would've ended up time wise had he not waited, but he definitely went much earlier than he would have. Maybe it helped him, maybe it hurt him. We don't really know. There are positives and negatives to it, as people have already discussed.

What Brian did does look bad, but from a competitor's point of view I completely understand his decision. People who havn't competed arn't aware of how stressful and agonizing the wait can be. It's so bad that it alone has caused some people to quit the show. I remember talking to Steve Volcko and he was almost burdened by the fact that he made it to the semis last year, because he would have to go through that wait again. This is something that I personally struggled with in SPADES. When I competed in ANW5 I had to wait around stressed for 8+ hours. By the time I finally got to compete, I was drained. I had done nothing to tire me out, but the stress completely sapped me. Ultimately, it caused me to fail on an obstacle I could've easily beaten (see my sig for details).
This is something that everyone goes through, both Japanese and American competitors. The rules are different for ANW, as they go based off of time and not run number. It's clear from Brian's interview and tweets that he was not show boating, but simply trying to maximize his chances of beating stage 3. In doing so, he underestimated stage 2 and lost - but he has obviously accepted that fact. It's a risk he was willing to take, and he paid for it. I hold absolutely no contempt for him personally. Maybe you guys don't agree with it, but I think at least you can understand the reasoning behind it.

I understand Bryan perfectly. As someone who had to wait from 8pm in a tiny competitors area and did not get the chance to run until 5 am, I know exactly what Brian was trying to avoid. Honestly I probably would've done the same, at least on my second attempt at Vegas. Waiting around stressed really saps your energy.

So the members of European team are all new faces and never been in ANW competition before? Possibly competed in Sasuke? And the Japanese members are Kanno, Asa, Yamamoto, Matachi, and ?. American team is going to be Joe Morasky, Elet Hall, Chris Wilczewski, Travis Rosen, and Paul Kasemir? Or Brian Arnold is included? Ah I didn't realize they didn't announce it in the broadcast. I just fast forwarded it and they only used stock footage from USA vs. Japan and announced the show as a thing but offered no expansion on it. The composition of the Euro team is/was the problem with this special. I doubt they will go into the problems with it but it was a major beef with the competitors and those in the audience who knew who they were. A couple were ANW competitors running for other countries. One is a Sasuke fan that rose to fame online. Two were hired to be there who had zero knowledge of the show. Only 2 of the competitors are actually from the countries they represent. The rest were jerryrigged into place because at the last second they decided it was a "Euro" team (it was supposed to be a general "world" team). Looooooong back story on that but that's part of the spoilers section. The composition of the teams were announced way back when they announced the date by NBC in a worldwide presser. USA: Brian Arnold, Elet Hall, Paul Kasemir, Joe Moravsky and Travis Rosen. Japan: Kazuma Asa, Hitoshi Kanno, Ryo Matachi, Shingo Yamamoto and Yusuke Morimoto. "Europe": Stefano Ghisolfi, Vadym Kuvakin, Sean McColl, Tim Sheiff and Miska Sutela Do you know how Miska got chosen?

They really need to give the new smash a subtitle... I don't know what to call it. At least call it Smash Bros U instead of "Smash bros for the Wii U".

It was a great panel; however, I think you probably should've been a bit more basic in what you discussed. By your own admission, a lot of people in the room didn't even know what Sasuke was. I'd wager some weren't even familiar with the all-stars - so bringing up things like Kane Kosugi, the UNCL, etc probably went a bit over their heads. Obviously you had an agenda in wanting to say some things out loud (Kane being american, etc) but I wonder how many people even knew who Kane was.
Obviously you were constrained to an hour, so how much can you realistically cover? Anyway that's just my thoughts - good panel for casual Sasuke fans or people who would frequent SMF, but perhaps a bit too advanced for the typical ANW crowd. Of course I don't exactly know the composition of the audience, but I'm just speaking based on what you've said.

Brandon Douglass got the #1 qualifying last year in Denver, and then opted out of competing in the finals (due to injury). However there was also an instance of him, jake smith, and others leaving the competitor area without saying anything. Producers were looking for them and they weren't there. I heard them get chewed out.
As for Steve Volcko, I talked to him at ANW5. He said he was proud of what he had accomplished and was a bit tired of competing and the stress that came with it. Dunno if that means he stopped altogether though.
