Just thought i'd let everyone know...rock climbing is great training for something like stage 3....its good grip strength and obviously helps with an obstacle like Hang Climbing. I believe that you get good cliff hanger practice off of it as well especially on a angled wall. If you have a indoor rock climbing place nearby, or you wanna do the real thing..do it, you'll be doing some fun training!

I agree. I have been doing a lot of bouldering at my indoor rock climbing center, and I've noticed a huge increase in my grip. I seriously believe it's how I beat the mini cliffhanger at Ninjafest 4.

While rock climbing is a good way to train for endurance, I prefer weight training for strength.

Yes, but both are necessary. Grip keeps your fingers attached to the wall, while weight training keeps your body from fatiguing so fast.
They compliment one-another.

You can train your grip with weights as well. And when I said strength, I meant strength. Weight training (for strength) won't really keep you from fatiguing. That's where endurance training comes in. Which can ALSO be trained with weights. I'm just saying, rock climbing isn't the best for STRENGTH. It's great for endurance, but for strength, you get used to your body's weight quickly and your strength gains quickly level off. More resistance is needed.

Agreed.
When I used to be in marching band (Don't laugh), we had to march around a giant football field for 10-15 minutes with a metal instrument at a 30 degree upward angle. And never really lower it. It's not easy.
I carried a baritone, and that sucker is heavy. First time I actually had 'muscles'. But when I began to even out and find it not as heavy, I would continue to make it heavy by attaching my water jug (about 10 pounds) to it. After that, I would wear my backpack full of books, and my thick winter clothes just to continue conditioning.
And when I would arrive at the competitions, I had SO much more endurance and 'speed' (You don't want too much speed or you get ahead of the rest, but it was far easier to move around) than the rest, and they pretty much stopped laughing at me for it.
So once I get to the point I can do what I can do easily, I will be increasing the ante. See how far I can push myself.
That will also apply to rock climbing. Once I can get all the way across without ever letting go, I will begin wearing weight.

I don't really have a rock wall place in close distance of me. Although I do use this one "rock wall" at this one playground (which technically isn't open but that's not the point..) I use the one part where it's just the top part (it's supposed to be like that) and I just do the Hang Climbing on it. www.majhost.com/gallery/manaleader/AvatarTen9/playgroundrockwall.jpg

Makes my rock practice look like a joke XD
Although I do climb this one wall actually made of rocks (not a rock climbing wall.. Well it's not supposed to be). I'll get a picture of it soon.

That sucks... I LOVE rock climbing. Well, not real rock climbing up actual mountains, but you know, the indoor ones.
But the only thing is, I've got nothing like that close to me...
The only thing I have is a s***ty wall which costs 5$ for every attempt... RIP-OFF.
Ugh... I really want a rock climbing place to open near me...

Well like I said, I don't know of any around here, closest I know of is in rockville. So other than the one pictured and the actual wall of rocks, I don't have any where that I know of in my city.

I never been climbing before but it seems easy. {I could be wrong} The only climbing gym in colorado springs is this place. www.sportclimbcs.com/Also, since stamina is a subject in this thread, I would suggest Dance Dance Revolution. At the highest levels, you're stepping around 10 steps per second. That includes all the crossovers, Jumps, and one foot solo's. There isn't many people in the world who can say that's easy to perform.

Depends of the wall really on a straight walls were all the rocks have handholds there pretty easy( i scaled the one at rocks in ropes in 26 seconds) however on the 45 degree angle one(also at rocks and ropes) it is hard as f*** i mean, i got halfway up the thing and my stamina was gone(this one only had like 1 or 2 handholds every 5 feet). Luckily i was high enough up that my legs could come in and i took a rest, about the first 13 feet of that particular wall is all arms, great training for the Ascending Climb/Hang Climbing. The walls normally get tougher b/c some of the rocks on the wall have no handhold. You just have to grip them and hope you can pull yourself up. Like i said its great training for grip strength very good for something like sasuke.

So what you're trying to say is that wall isn't worth s*** for training the Hang Climbing even though it is arms only rock climbing?

I go there occasionally, and it really helps my grip when I boulder. (Before I hit post:) Oops! Just read that you haven't been climbing. Well, it can be both easy-as-pie and ph*cking impossible. Depending on the routes you use. You see those colored tags attached to the pieces? Those dictate routes. The higher the number (Usually stated on the lowest colored piece to the ground), the harder. Don't consider an 7-8 hard though, as I believe a 3-4 is similar to a ladder. Anyway, we should go sometime! I have tonight open as well as tomorrow (Tuesday), want to come by and try it?

So what you're trying to say is that wall isn't worth s**t for training the Hang Climbing even though it is arms only rock climbing? No its really good training, in fact its better training for the ascending climb than the hang climbing, so its really good. Yea they do have rights there. At rocks and ropes/the climb there labeled 1-12(1 being the easiest and 12 being the hardest) at the other place the routes are labeled by color(i dont go there as often, so i dont really know whats thougher)

Well all of the "rocks" on there have grips (some of them are just thick wide ones with grips towards the side and flat for half the top and some others have higher grips on one side and lower on the other). Anything you can recommend to do on it? (Note: Both sides are symmetrical (minus wall shape) except for a small part on the other side that's too short to use). After seeing the picture I did think about jumping onto the Monkey Bars (Although I hope I don't get too much momentum and hit the short ladder (and upwards two bars from it to the top) though. It is seen in the picture, it's the yellow bar). Have tried to jump from the Monkey Bars to the Rock Wall which wasn't so successful.

Have tried to jump from the Monkey Bars to the Rock Wall which wasn't so successful. 1st part-when i cant find a handhold, i normally grab the easiest "rock" around and use both of my hands to pull myself on higher than try to find a foothold. If there's nothing around, the only thing you can do is jump for a rock and try to latch onto it and then regain position. 2nd part-Your trying to jump from monkey bars to the rock wall? My only suggestion is to get as much momentum(pipe slider like) and just jump for it. Can i get another picture to see what your dealing with? BTW i was kinda confused with what you were saying i tried to understand it the best way i could

What I was saying was any tips for what to do when that's become too easy. I've already started from the top of the other side of the bottomless part, climb to the other side, and then climb up the side pictured. And if you want pictures of the Monkey Bars to see them, Heres some pictures I got (although it was more supposed to be for the zipline thing which is a complete different obstacle I train for) www.majhost.com/gallery/manaleader/AvatarTen9/sliderjumppractice3.jpgwww.majhost.com/gallery/manaleader/AvatarTen9/sliderjumppractice4.jpg(My hand on was on there to show my grip for said other obstacle, only one hand was up because I had to hold my DSi somehow) If you wanted pictures of the distance between the Monkey Bars and the Rock Wall, that's where you'd have to wait because I didn't get pictures of that today XD Unrelated I kind of want to try the Jumping Bars from one side of the monkey bars to the other (only with forward grips and not horizontal obviously), not getting enough momentum though, I've done regular distance horizontal bars jumping bars distance though, that's not at that playground though.

Well when that gets to easy(rock wall part), dont use your legs, let your arms do everything, that will be difficult, but thats really the only thing u can do if what your already doing is too easy. On the monkey bar thing that may be slightly dangerous (however the guy i train with always says "psh...that makes it fun") on a playground it would be difficult from the side just b/c you can really only get another part of the playground so thts extremely difficult.
