I know of elite level climbers that only climb, but those are genetic freaks. These people are exceptions to the rule, not the rule itself. I recently read about Chris Sharma, whose training, diet and recovery literally consisted of whatever he felt like doing that day. Most of us can't do that. We have to actually train if we want to reach an elite level, and even then, many of us still never will. That's the genetic lottery. Phelps, Bolt and the other athletes I listed are also genetically gifted, but they also do real training outside of their sport because it makes them as good as they can possibly be. Climbing is not so different from other sports that the general rules of athletic training don't apply to it. This is an interesting article that I just started reading, and you might enjoy it as well: www.climbstrong.com/articles/20130112_2The thing about going down on the course is that it doesn't show your athleticism or lack thereof. I went out in ANW4 on an obstacle I had cleared in the preliminaries. About 20 other guys did too. There are more objective ways to measure this stuff. A squat, deadlift, press and power clean test, for example. Sprint tests of varying distances. There's more to ANW than just the climbing aspect, and rock climbing alone doesn't develop those other aspects. Somebody who only climbs won't dominate all these fields. Good luck to you as well. Add me on Facespace (Otis Hemmingway) and let's talk more training. I like discussions with people who aren't idiots.

No locations are confirmed yet, but Venice Beach, Dallas and Miami have worked well since ANW4 (Venice Beach being the original location of ANW1-3, of course). I doubt they're going to change. I don't think ANW will ever go to NYC because of the costs and regulations of NYC and the s***ty weather. However, ANW is taking place roughly one month later this season than it has in the past, so maybe the crew is finally learning after the Baltimore and St. Louis clusterfucks that the NE is uninhabitable in early spring. ANW1 was behind a Best Buy, not on Venice Beach. Their start dates also vary a lot. Venice is usually mid March but its started in April before I believe.

For some reason I though ANC1 was behind the Best Buy. Got my wires crossed there, sorry.

What about Bada, RC and yours truly? DO WE NOT COUNT?! Hell, we have plenty more reps too, I'd say everyone in this thread is an SMF rep, granted I'm sure I might be the most iconicly SMF guy as former highest poster but still.

Well I mean, Brian Orosco was here once just to try and sell his used shoes. I don't count that. I think reps of SMF should include actual members of this community. People who are here a lot and mingle with each other fairly regularly.

I did in fact apply (and was probably one of the first 5-10 to submit their entries as I did so hours after applications opened and had all of my s*** prepared).
In fact I even got a callback yesterday! ...for them to tell me to add music to my video. Oh well.

They asked you to add music? Interesting! Like for action scenes?

They asked you to add music? Interesting! Like for action scenes? Yes. I got a callback saying my athletic portion was boring because it had no music. So perhaps not the most flattering callback to get - but at least I got a chance to fix it before they sent it off to the producers.

Haven't submitted yet, going to finish my video tomorrow. I'll be at the regional site regardless, can't take off enough time from school to walk on but I'll be spectating.

Ah so they have to hop to it and finish on time! Especially if they are already doing callbacks...

If I don't get selected and there is a St. Louis region again, I MAY drive out there again. 4 hours is kind of far though, since that turns into an 8 hour round trip in the same day.
