I'm disappointed they're still capitalizing on having the same region by repeating obstacles.

It needs to build to a finale. Without it, it lacks incentive to watch week to week. Well it wouldn't lack incentive if they'd simply put more effort into the course, commentary, themes, etc. It'd be the same repetitive show regardless, hope they take this into account.

Apparently, after 10 episodes, tonight was some sort of finale. The Cube premieres next week with 10 episodes. I'm guessing Wipeout might be back sometime in August or September for those other 10 episodes, since they were also casting for teams of three. This was the last episode for now, but it wasn't the special all-star finale. That's coming up later. Needs massive improvement.

Some of these kids are crushing it in these ninja leagues. Some can absolutely shine. I do have concerns with the timing though. From what I understand, at least in the past, that the filming schedule for American Ninja Warrior is brutal. I know some of these ninja kids watched it in person in the past but there's a huge difference of being a spectator at 1 in the morning and competing at 1 in the morning. Is it not during the day once again because it's indoors? Or you're just referring to Vegas?

Why should Brent be eliminated? He's had some less than... say, popular opinions online regarding things like BLM, Covid, mask-wearing, etc etc etc. While I don't think anyone should be ostracized from a certain group for having different opinions no matter how wacko they may or may not be, it would be hard for producers to justify his return whilst about 35% of the big name ninjas are wearing NFBL shirts and the like. Yeah that's a fair point, and I think the main issue here is probably the Drew support, though NBC probably don't want the other qualities that much either... I would let him stay, but I guess they are pretty firm with their rules that if you say stuff they don't like, you're not coming back.

Yeah, Drew's save probably has to be one of the best.

I think it's just someone watching a tournament for the first time and giving his thoughts. As long as he posts more about it I think this should be fine?

I can only confirm his being and absolute and complete a*****e to the Sasuke production staff after his blatant disregard of rules during his Sasuke 31 CCH reverse technique clear. I was physically there to see the spectacle that followed and witnessed what caused the rerun. That's from the Sasuke 31 Navi blog. Spot the loonie.. I was in the stands and on tape showing my reaction to the eventual Morimoto clear. After he disregarded the rules and cleared he slowed down and looked around. He KNEW he broke the rules. We were all excited because at first we thought they okayed it (none of us knew at the time and at that moment we thought he cleared first) but immediately Inui chased him down after Drew waved off 2 of the production staff. Inui was the only one trying to talk to him in English when Drew in a hissy fit started screaming at Inui right in front of the crowd. It was uncomfortable to look at because THIS is the image of Americans that most people in Japan "expect". After a few minutes of back and forth Drew said he didn't know and that it was okay in the USA. Inui wasn't sure but thought it might be legit (even though it was a clear rule by the Safety Board to NOT do it that way in Japan). So in a huge huff Inui threw his hands in the air and waved him back to the beginning of the CCH. Everyone knew he was going to fail it and alas that is what he did. The look on Drew's face afterwards was one of someone who got caught. EVERYONE ignored him and he kept his mouth shut after that. In 32 he was downright a saint on set. Yes sir, no sir and kept to his own. He was idolized by the Shin Sedai as some sort of a god. He could do things they couldn't and they hounded me and my friends to translate for him even during my off times. So I had spent time I wasn't expecting with Drew wedged in what was supposed to be interviews for the book I was supposed to be writing. But Drew kept crashing all of them and they turned into "parties". So I have a different view of Drew based on my own experience and know him to be an opportunistic schmuck. But that is separate from his abilities and talent and chalked it up to the smugness and entitlement of the Millennial generation. Everyone here on SMF knows that. Here is the exchange as I saw it at the time. As for him "not knowing" the CCH rule was in place.. that's absolute bulls**t. I found that out after I talked to my friends who did the interpreting after the airing happened and I did my blog and my podcast with William at the time. I knew of the rule (and go into extreme detail when the rule came to be in the podcast) but I didn't know about what happened during the 31 walk through when it happened. He failed so we didn't discuss it as a group. However once that came out my friends sat me down and explained that I was incorrect that he didn't know. This exact question about the rule was dealt with that night during the walk through throughout a whole series of events. Anastase asked about this specifically since he thought it might be useful to turn around to see where he was jumping to when they got to the CCH. We had spent some time in the parking lot discussing it with Tada and Jin explaining the correct technique. So while Anastase was in front of the CCH he asked the question in French. It was translated into English to be translated to Japanese. Then the answer was given in Japanese then English then French. Then the issue was expounded back with another question in French to English back to Japanese with the answer in Japanese then English then French. This went on over a period of a few minutes during the walk through. I was in the stands with Tada so I didn't know. So yes he knew. I won't go back and retcon a blog post because that's my rule. That was my impression at the time and I still stand by that since that's what I thought until a month or so after the broadcast when my friends read what I wrote. We dealt with the aftermath in the intervening year. The problem which he told me sheepishly btw a couple days later from 31 was that he didn't train the "correct" way and so he did it "his way" since it was the only way he was going to clear it that year. When I saw him again in 32 during the massive downtime a year later because he knew I was upset about 31 and he was determined to be the first to clear it (regardless of country) and so he worked his a** off to clear it legit. By this point he had cleared the first staget wet and muscled a clear knowing he would not get a political rerun if it came to that. He knew he was on eggshells in 32 without knowing that I worked my a** off behind the scenes to get him back. You don't ban people for personality problems you ban them for infractions. I still go by this motto. So I went to bat for him based on merit alone and my conversations with Inui were intense. Drew was super nice to me in 32 when he found out the lengths I risked what was left of my reputation to get him back on the show. We all know how TBS took to that display. ********* As for the case itself we are up to 4 victims. 3 were underage and the last presumably was not but is claiming rape (worst being April's friend to boot). That's where we are right now. Cocky? Absolutely. Manipulative? Absolutely and that was known throughout ANW as gospel. Womanizer? Hell yes but that was considered April's problem and personal. Pedophile? No and that's why we are here. Shocking. I never thought I'd find somebody even remotely close to Yamada in terms of ego and rudeness, let alone on the same level as him. I think he may be even worse than Yamada, as he is also arrogant and manipulative. Well, it looks like Nagano made the correct decision to support Morimoto instead of an attention-seeking, woman-r***** pile of s***. Err yes, Yamada is something, but that's nothing compared to all Drew has done

Wow, that mugshot is so depressing. Obviously don't care for him anymore whatsoever but the way he looks now just shows how time has gone. Just a year (well, a couple months more) since we found out he won it all and idolized him. I don't care for him, but still just so depressing that he's already so out of shape and clearly checked out of life.

I'm not against keeping the course pretty similar until someone reaches total victory, but the amount of people that I see complain about similar obstacles makes me question if that's really a good idea in terms of ratings and viewership. Agreed - I mean, imagine having exactly the same Stage 1 in 2021 as 2019. That would be so anaemic - I'm okay with Tire Run and Diving Boards staying, but Twist and Fly, Archer Steps - so many opportunities missed. That goes for every course in vegas really. I would agree with Ben's statement for the second-to-last of Stage Two, or the Stage Four tower, because those are "boss obstacles" but yeah, not for whole courses. Completely agreed! But imagine having ANY Stage One next year - I'd be so excited if they can do that!

Yeah, it's really sad. I don't think Wipeout can be blamed unless they've made the course significantly harder or didn't do an appropriate physical, but that doesn't make it less sad and jarring to see someone died. Not good for these folks.
When the guy from the first show died it happened two weeks later and ultimately turned out he didn't tell them his medical concerns because he was wanting to participate so much. This one puts Wipeout a bit more at-blame.

Thank goodness he wasn’t in the final power tower bracket. I really don’t know how you show the final showdowns at all if he makes it that far. What a mess that could have been. They're lucky they didn't put him on one of the big banners in the background. That would have been really hard to edit out. Wonder why they didn't? I saw the truck with him in the background in episode 7, but weird it all happened to be so our of the way.

I see no reason they won't eventually go back to the old format..? I'd prefer next year, but if they're not able to, they could at least do something slightly bigger and then season 14 should definitely be alright (if things are still bad then I'm giving up on everything lol).
Even before I knew about the rating decline, I assumed it only made sense that they'd go back to the old format. This one doesn't feel the same and obviously they know Midoriyama is much of the appeal for some fans. So I think they'll go back to normal ASAP. Of course, you could also the decline will stop them going back at all, but I'm sure they think going back to the old setup will bring them back up (and I agree!).
That being said, they keep calling it the FIRST Power Tower battle... ugh.

I don't hate it, but I'd prefer the old version. The four-stage idea is the basis of the show, so I don't think it's asking for toooo much to go back to that when possible. Hopefully next year.

Pretty good episode overall. This episode had two elements I really didn't like though- both in the same section:
They're implying that they're treating this year as a proper winner (in my book it's not the same as beating a four-stage Midoriyama course) AND they called it the "first Power Tower showdown"! I'd like to think it's the first and only one please!
