So according to Sasukepedia and TBS’ social media presence, Sasuke 39 has just been taped. Unfortunately it seems as though the Rolling Hill, Fish Bone, and Dragon Glider are all staying....

How long does it take between taping and broadcast?

Usually about 1.5-2 months. 38 was also taped at around the same time, 37 was taped in late November and both aired around New Years.
Though we should be finding out the numbers soon.

We can also confirm that Takeda didn't compete this year as he had surgery today.

There is no way I'll be looking forward to watching this year's tournament because for the second year in a row, there won't be any international competitors present and it just will not be the same without them, especially Rene as they are such a joy to watch on the show, especially in 37 when he made it all the way to Stage 4 in his rookie attempt and that celebs are just a waste of time for me to see. I was so sure they were going to compete this time as the virus was thought to have relaxed in Japan but that wasn't to be.

We're literally in a pandemic and most of the celebs nowadays are those that actually care about the show. Get used to it.

I'm guessing it'll be another end-of-December broadcast. That seems to be Sasuke's new niche -- which is really kind of silly, when you think about it. An outdoor athletic competition should be held in the spring/summer, when it's warm outside. I wonder if the producers fell into the current cycle by accident, or if they actually think that fall/winter is the best time of year to film and broadcast the show.
In any case, I'm looking forward to 39. I need more Sasuke!

As with the mentioned source below your comment, TBS had also released SASUKE 39-related merch, showing the dates 2021.10.30-2021.11.1 that indicate the Taping Date.

Does anyone remember when they released the competitor list for Sasuke 38 relative to when it was taped (which was pretty much the same exact time as 39 was taped but obvs last year)? I remember they did so for Sasuke 37 straight after it was taped. I'm just anxious to see the running order.

Also for what it's worth I think the Fishbone's yellow section got extended by one or two pedestals. Could be wrong, but it looked that way from the pictures I saw on Instagram.

We can also confirm that Takeda didn't compete this year as he had surgery today. So I guess that leaves Shingo and possibly Yamada for All-Stars. I don't think Nagano's coming back, but I may be wrong.

Also I take it back, the yellow part was always 3 sets of spokes apparently. Thought it was only 2 in 37-38. Something about the obstacle seems a bit off though. Like there's an incline or something maybe. You can't really see. All pics I saw were from using the hashtags posted in this thread. There's also a slider obstacle before the Fishbone. In one image I saw what looked to be like half of a curtain on it at the beginning, but the track also looked longer to me than in 38. Everyone's gotta just look for themselves.

I've just had a look.
Seriously, I wasn't expecting a whole lot of changes but this isn't looking too good imo. The Rolling Hill and Fish Bone have been kept; the latter I was sort of expecting but the former being kept is defo a disappointment as it was such an immersion breaker being really easy to clear as long as you go as slow as a snail. Also the Final Stage looks the EXACT same as it was last time, with the Spider Walk and Salmon Ladder (I can't see the last obstacle but I'm going to assume it's a rope climb). I'm assuming there'll be a decreased time limit or what not but not changing it whatsoever kinda sucks....
I really hope they at least minorly update Stages 1 through 3; no doubt the most latter will just be an even harder Cliffhanger but I guess we'll see. I'm mostly concerned about Stage 2 given that the entire course bar the Rolling Log is soooo stale at this point.

Honestly the lenient time limit IMO has mostly been to blame for the stagnant Stage 2s. The last four obstacles (Spider Drop, Backstream, Reverse Conveyor, and Wall Lift) are all designed to be time eaters. So on a course with a stricter time limit they would all be perfect, but with a lenient time limit they're all kind of worthless.
I'd venture a guess Backstream's gonna stay and that's hardly worth complaining about since my stance on the Backstream is pretty much the same as it was back in 2012. Not because it's a swimming obstacle, but because it limits a lot of potential for Stage 2 changes hence why the stage has suffered.

Morimoto will smash this in no time based on whats seen so far unless they going the cheap cop out and cutting time significantly on the timed stages.
