Seriously, I wasn't expecting a whole lot of changes but this isn't looking too good imo. The Rolling Hill and Fish Bone have been kept; the latter I was sort of expecting but the former being kept is defo a disappointment as it was such an immersion breaker being really easy to clear as long as you go as slow as a snail. Also the Final Stage looks the EXACT same as it was last time, with the Spider Walk and Salmon Ladder (I can't see the last obstacle but I'm going to assume it's a rope climb). Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if there weren't any changes at all. I think the show is just treading water at this point, ratings-wise, and they don't have the money to do an update. Whatever we end up getting in 39, it won't be a renewal; it'll be like any other tournament as far as changes go.

Between lack of budget, COVID, and many other factors I can honestly see why there wouldn't be many changes. But yeah it is kind of disappointing considering pretty much everyone either sussed out 38's Stage 1 or was given a free pass (hence why we got 50 people get to the Dragon Glider with many being joke competitors). If the course is like 38's expect all 100 to get to the Dragon Glider LOL.

Makes sense from a budget perspective, but how are they going to justify this 'renewal' if the course is exactly the same? Surely Yusuke is just going to Kanzen again by that regard?
As I've said before there are ways to make the course harder with minimal cost increases. Only change a couple of obstacles here and there but structure it such that two obstacles are placed together which makes the latter much harder following the former, such as the Tackle before the Warped Wall; as well as that, maybe don't keep all the motorised s***?
Either way, no point in complaining. It is what it is I guess; at least there's an upcoming tournament anyway....

I think we should reserve judgement until at least a trailer or two. We haven't seen Stages 2 or 3 at all, and we can't make out a lot of Stage 1.
I will say this though, the jump off the Rolling Hill is 100% back and the same.

There is no way I'll be looking forward to watching this year's tournament because for the second year in a row, there won't be any international competitors present and it just will not be the same without them, especially Rene as they are such a joy to watch on the show, especially in 37 when he made it all the way to Stage 4 in his rookie attempt and that celebs are just a waste of time for me to see. I was so sure they were going to compete this time as the virus was thought to have relaxed in Japan but that wasn't to be. What??? There's no international people again?

Yep indeed. Same Covid restrictions as in Sasuke 38. Their cases have gone down massively in the last few months, from 20k+ a day in late August to in the hundreds as of now, but I guess you can never be too safe and it's probably a legal requirement at this point. Besides, cases in other countries such as the US and Europe are still well into the tens of thousands so they probably don't want internationals for that very reason.
At the end of the day the only disadvantage is that we don't get to see Rene and Jessie compete as well as there being a lack of audience. The latter I actually didn't mind too much and the former sucks but it is what it is.
At least they're still hosting tournaments despite all this.

We can also confirm that Takeda didn't compete this year as he had surgery today. So I guess that leaves Shingo and possibly Yamada for All-Stars. I don't think Nagano's coming back, but I may be wrong. Not only just not competing. He is retiring. The injury is much more worse than expected and the surgery pretty much make up his mind to retire.

That's depressing beyond words. He is my favorite competitor. At least he goes out on a high note. He had an excellent run in 38 barring the DQ. I can't believe it though. He looked so great after his initial surgery and was in peak condition. He might have reinjured it again early this year when he stopped posting to YouTube.
Now we're down to Shingo and maybe Nagano (not gonna count Yamada, sorry). Damn this news crushes me

I kind of figured that injury was going to end up retiring Takeda. It was a bit later than I expected, but still.

Instagram DM (not to me, tho). Obviously don't want to say much until he make it Public *I reckon he gonna do it after SASUKE 39's Airing Date announced*, but, yeah, he is retiring.
Also, yes, as M4tt3r0x point out, that's the reason he didn't upload much on YouTube.

Yeah I always wondered why he just went completely dark on social media after about February.
One of the saddest stories ever, the injury’s plagued him for 20 years almost now as it started between Sasuke 11 and 12 from what I remember. He bounced back in the face of adversity for Sasuke 38 and transformed himself in his mid-40s only for the injury to come back and retire him for good.
At least he had a good run and I hope he’ll still remain active in the community despite not being able to compete anymore.

Wasn't it his right shoulder that was broken in 11 and 12 and then his left that was dislocated in 36? Pretty sure it was a separate injury.

Back to obstacle discussion, I saw one Twitter account who posted pictures from outside the studio lot talk about the obstacles.
Said the first obstacles of stage one were Quad Step, Rolling hill, "swing slider" (which I assume they mean silk slider, but who knows) then fishbone kai
As discussed earlier someone said they saw the dragon glider, which I haven't seen a picture of that yet.
Also, this person claims that the first part of the new final stage is a rock climbing wall
Then they say that they think it looks like the third stage is a Cliff Hanger from beginning to end....
The pictures of the final stage are hard to make out besides there definitely being a salmon ladder in the middle and they didn't post anything of stage 2 or 3

Damn, I’m going to reserve judgment until the obstacles are officially announced but if the above is true then this is a lot worse than even a pessimist such as myself thought .....

I hope the person I saw on Twitter is wrong. Its @716kjf Also maybe I am misreading translations. I don't want this to somehow look like it's my fault if this ends up being proved wrong in the future lol You can also search SASUKE 収録

A entire cliff hanger stage 3 ahahah

An entire Cliffhanger Stage 3 sounds like one of those memes someone would post about Inui lol; but I just had a look and I don’t see any Stage 3 photos. I very much doubt there’d be just one long a** Cliffhanger. Firstly a Cliffhanger enveloping the entire length of Stage 3 would be impossible and even Inui isn’t that hard headed ......
But yeah it seems like the rest of Stage 1 is basically the same.... Quad Steps and Rolling Hill are there. I’m also confident the Silk Slider is there as well because I could see the same green net they used In 38 to break the fall if competitors missed the platform. Then obvs the Fish Bone Kai remains the same. I’ve not seen the Dragon Glider but apparently it’s still there according to Sasukepedia, and I’m also assuming the Tackle Warped Wall isn’t going anywhere either.
Damn and I thought 32’s renewal was bad. The only thing I can hope for at this point is a drastic reduction in time limit. Maybe down to 60-70 seconds from 90. At this point with what we know that’s the best and probably only way to make what is a really stale Stage 1 more exciting, like giving competitors time for only one shot at the Warped Wall and heavily penalising those who go at a snail’s pace on the first two obstacles. And at least with a stringent time limit the joke competitors will time out before they get as far as they did in 38

Could just be a bunch of different cliffhangers with breaks. This is an idea that for me could be either the absolute worst or absolute best thing I've ever seen.
