Well, as I've said, they only took 100 off Nagano because Yamada said he'd retire again, so they gave it to Yamada. Or else, we'd have a #100-wearing champion (which we've never had in SASUKE).
But again, I think Yuuji will be #99. In fact, #98 would be a real surprise to me.

I'd be just as interested in seeing if more UNCLI's compete and where their numbers would rank compared to some of the All-Stars. Yuuji is going to get #98 or #99 I think. To take #100 off of Nagano might signal the beginning of his decline. It'd be a good move to invite them all automatically if they're serious about this new era thing. It was BS that Matachi and Yamamoto had to qualify again. In fact I'm not sure why there are only ~8 qualifiers per tournament. There should be like 20. Who are all these random people that fill up most of the number and don't get shown?

Who are all these random people that fill up most of the number and don't get shown? People that Monster 9/TBS let in who they think would make good TV IF they do something interesting (bodyguard guy from 21, random foreigners living in Japan) and especially "fringe" sportspeople like the teenage girl rock climber from 21, snow boarders, "flying disc" players, etc, etc. 20 would be a nice number because it would include UNCLI (five), the Park-Gundan guys (since there is no SASUKE Park All-Stars anymore - undetermined number but it includes guys like Nomura from this past show), and the original "STQers" who aren't in either group like Koji Hashimoto and Kazuma Asa.

I think there should be 20 in addition to most of those people, who I believe deserve invites anyway. But their current admission policy does make sense from a broadcasting perspective.

Well, going by how they've been using Ryo Matachi and Koji Hashimoto to promote the new area at Muscle Park in their blog, it's possible that that's the way they are moving, basically promoting them from the minors (SASUKE Mania, Trials) to the big leagues. I guess they figure that since they struck lightning sort of twice with the trampolinists (Nakata, the Nagasakis) they are going to trawl the minor sports world for more stars (remember, the trampoline became an Olympic event only recently). I would personally cut the number of Muscle Musical members or make THEM go through a trial and only invite five or so.

I agree on the Muscle Musical point. It's not like they need 20 of them to promote the show, 5 would do nicely. I suppose it's difficult for them to deny places if lots of them actively want to compete though.
I also find it funny that the only Muscle Musical guy to clear in 22 was Hiromichi Sato. No disrespect to him at all, I enjoyed his runs very much since it was so unexpected, but most of those guys are in their twenties and a lot more athletic.

I didn't realize Sato was in Muscle Musical. And even so, shouldn't we cheer on the old guys too? It's not often that people 40 and over get to clear the first stage.

Sato was/is a part of the Muscle Musical but he's more well-known for being a kids TV show host.

Did Sato used to be a gymnast? I think I saw something about that.

According to Japanese Wikipedia~! he went to the Nippon Sport Science University and was in the gymnastics department (same as Nakata Daisuke but not at the same time). But it doesn't look like he had a gymnastics career of any note (unlike the Iketanis, Nakata and the Nagasakis - Shunsuke anyway).

No wonder G4 called him a gymnastics instructor in Sasuke 19.
But as long as we're on Sato, I figure his number will go up after his performance in 22. But it won't be the #99 that he wore in 19.

You mean the Break Monkeys & Cheerleaders (which featured Naoki Iketani)?

Stage 1 already eats up too much time on both the American and Japanese shows for me. It would be nice to have 100 "best of the best" contestants, but that would get monotonous. Mixing it up between comedians, non-skilled, and skilled is a good idea if people are watching for the wipe-outs.

nagano is going to be #100 bank on that...it will take someone really spectacular, to take that number away from nagano...but yuuji should get #99.

Was there a reason why Nagano got bumped (ironically) to 99 in 17 for Yamada? I think Nagano stays at 100, Yuuji gets a high 90s, Kanno a low 90s or mid 80s. If Yuuji repeats what he did, then all bets are off. He still doesn't have the name-value to get 100 but if he does it again and the All-Stars don't hold up their end of things, you'll see lot more number shuffling. Oh, and I think if he comes back, Monster 9 will bump Levi down to the 80s. Yeah, and that's a big IF. He should have to qualify for the next ANC like everyone else and not get a free pass. But if TBS invites him back, then the point is moot.

If he comes back and does poorly again, it ought to be his last time.
But back to Nagano. He'll probably still be 100 until he's done. Or until they hold another race. Or until Yamada retires - again.

The guy was the last man standing in SASUKE 20, anyone that is the final person to fail should get a pass for life. If not by G4 then definitely by TBS.
Back on topic: Nagano will probably still be #100 unless the head producer decides that this is where the new generation starts, and makes Urushihara #100.

I believe Levi has a lifetime pass to Sasuke.
What I'm curious about is if David will come back. He was in the top 10 wasn't he?
