Since the numbers have a clothing-safe adhesive on the back, the contestants usually place their numbers on their own clothing after registration.

Well i know one think based on watching sasuke and kunoichi, they seem to give the best people/celebrities numbers that are either high(85-100) or numbers like 50, so if that person beats it the grid that comes up says 50 persons have attempted 1 person has cleared or a number like 71 were it could say 70 persons have attempted 0 persons have cleared

(some number divisible by ten) have attempted, 0 have fallen off the course between obstacles...
Up next is Shingo Yamamoto!

Somehow Shingo's number is going to be lower than 31 next time....like I said, I wouldn't be surprised if HE were number 1 someday. I'll be expecting Nagano to finally be below 100 again someday, but even when that happens, I'll probably be shocked to see it.

Remember that time he was #7... Well he'll be lucky if that's the lowest he has.

He was only #7 because it was his first time and people had no idea of him then (well, they had no idea of anyone, but I think it was just a random selection). I just think the more he fails, the lower his number gets. Unless he's asking for these low numbers, which has been speculated upon.

If I were assigning numbers, I'd pair each of the All Stars with one of the Qualifiers right before him. Yuuji would be 99, Nagano would be 100. The other one who cleared would be right before Takeda, and so on. That would highlight this rivalry storyline.

Nagano should still be #100. Last time I checked, he's the last person to finish the course, so until someone else can do that, he's the best in my book. Gotta beat #1 to be #1.

LOL tell that to Monster 9 when they had Yamada at 100 for that one Nagano won in Sasuke 17 Last time I checked... he has never won

At that point it makes a LITTLE sence. Nagano had not complete the course yet and Akiyama had said he did not want a high number because of his eyes. I dont think it's right, but you could at least make a case for Yamada since he had been tops in 3 tournaments, Nagano 4 at that point. Not saying I agree, just giving you the other side of the argument.

Nagano had been to the final 3 consecutive times.. by Sasuke 17 Yamada has not been even out of the 2nd stage in almost 5 tournaments.. It made absolutely no sense.

#100 is the easiest number to pick. It goes to the top draw. After Akiyama failed the Jump Hang a few times, Yamada became the most popular guy. At the moment, Nagano is going to make more people tune in than Yuuji. Sure, Nagano got #100 after reaching the final stage for the first time, but he was already an established competitor at that time.
That said, I'm not sure about Akiyama in 9. Yamada's 'retirement' in 17 I suppose makes sense since he hadn't done that in a while, Nagano hadn't been to the final in a while, and he still had a tremendous fanbase. It was probably the selling point of the show, hence #100.
That's a point, actually. To go completely against what I just said, if they bill the next show as the beginning of a new era with Yuuji at the helm, then he could realistically get #100.

I hope Yuuji is 100 but not sure if they will dethrone Nagano. Though I have to admit Nagano would adore not being the last one going.. LOL

If he really doesn't want it can't he just request he not have #100?

He's been requesting it for years.. the closest he ever got was running slow on purpose in 18 and he STILL got a high number because the numbers got switched at the end.

Hmmm you'd think he could trade with someone who'd want it.. Who does want #100 anyway?

He doesn't have creative control. #100 is important as it's a TV show. If it were just a regular competition then it wouldn't matter.

I still think Nagano'd be #100, unless they have another one of them there races. Yuuji will be #99 at best. Like I said, Yamada should threaten to retire again if he wants to wear #100 (like he did in 17).

LOL I'd be just as interested in seeing if more UNCLI's compete and where their numbers would rank compared to some of the All-Stars. Yuuji is going to get #98 or #99 I think. To take #100 off of Nagano might signal the beginning of his decline.

And he didn't do all that badly in 17...
