Hmm.. not a slow week after all.. Just network normal programming isn't getting the views. Seems everyone was on cable this week watching the Homerun derby. The ratings are terrible.. but still tied for first but really low rating overall for network. Worst in history if you just look at the numbers. I'm sure NBC will just look at placement since all of network is down vs. cable the past year. American Ninja Warrior (NBC) (8-10 p.m.) 1.4 rating / 6 share 5.56 million viewers Ratings chart with cable numbers (and it's updated to they have final numbers and only 1 other show was adjusted down - no change to ANW). Less men are watching which is interesting.. Ratings chart from just network has the hour by hour. Women and old people are holding this show together. They've lost their target demographic.. which is.. interesting if not a little disconcerting. Are men the target demographic anymore? It seems like ANW is leaning more on their women and old people audience.

Are men the target demographic anymore? It seems like ANW is leaning more on their women and old people audience. Generally they are since years and years ago it was determined that men 18-34 "buy" more items that are advertised so many in the industry target them and that is where the "key demo" came from (roughly of course). That has changed greatly as women have been higher buyers in the market over the past 10 years or so (many factors including single parenting, independence, etc.). Only recently have they actually started to pay attention to that demographic. We know that it killed G4 to ignore that demo (long story but the president of the company specifically ditched shows that had a higher female viewership since they were aiming for the key demo in young men - that included the original Ninja Warrior being yanked off the air from Prime time). Ever since the "chart" was public I've seen NBC change how they market things. Even their biggest competition in the timeslot is something that his a huge female demo winner in Bachelorette. You also have noticed also how the rules of the show have changed to this demo over time and how much they milk every female run. The fact though is that ANW isn't growing it's just recycling people. Their ratings are slipping and their viewership hasn't increased. They've lost most of their male demo over time only to be replaced by women and old people in the demo. That's clear when you compare year to year and stare at the shift in the market. That in and of itself is not bad given that recent studies of buying habits have actually solidified that women should be replacing the "key" demo in advertising since they buy more then men do in the same age bracket. NBC is realizing thing and doing the opposite of what G4 did. G4 shunned that audience while NBC is embracing it - all backlash be damned.

Wow, a close second between The Bachlelorette, and I can't believe I'm saying this, but with it seemingly getting better at the moment, I'd say it deserves it.

Overnights are in. Definitely 2nd. That said, Bachelorette had it's Finale so ANW should switch places and be First from here on out. They never beat Bachelor in Paradise. I'll edit this when Final numbers are in. Finals are in and no changes. American Ninja Warrior (NBC) (8-10 p.m.) 1.5 rating / 6 share 6.28 Million viewers Network ratings chart with overnights is up. Network Chart unchanged but cable is added to the page.

Ratings this week are shocking (to me at least show have been following). ANW in 2nd behind Bachelor in Paradise.. that's NEVER happened.. ( Fast numbers) American Ninja Warrior (NBC) (8-10 p.m.) 1.4 rating / 5 share 5.86 million viewers Also when you check the ratings chart.. you see where it went wrong.. they LOST their female base.. Compare it with last week to see the drop. Will be interesting if this is a sign to come for future weeks.

I wonder if the filming controversy that happened during Bachelor in Paradise is helping that show's ratings.

I wonder if the filming controversy that happened during Bachelor in Paradise is helping that show's ratings. TBH I didn't follow that but after research.. yeah.. I am sure that helped. Meanwhile the Final numbers are posted and ANW didn't change but Bachelor in Paradise was adjusted up. Chart is updated with cable for those who are interested.

This week was an anomaly since there was a presidential address in the MIDDLE of the broadcast for most of the country (West coast was unaffected) so we'll have to wait until next week to see what's going on with the new season vs. against Bachelor in Paradise. The fact that it is STILL this close at the start of the night is still mind boggling. ANW would double digit this show.. but anyway. ANW tied for 1st in this weird night. I'm including the Fast numbers so you can see what happened in the ratings along with this note from the page (which is important): (FAST NUMBERS) American Ninja Warrior (NBC) (8-9 p.m.) 1.4 rating / 6 share 6.11 million viewers However - Final numbers came in with this blurb to explain why everything was adjusted down: (FINAL NUMBERS) American Ninja Warrior (NBC) (8-9, 9:30-10:30 p.m.) 1.3 rating / 5 share 5.71 viewers This is huge.. even with a botched night.. ANW only tied with Bachelor in Paradise. The largest nielsen pool (along with a huge chunk of the viewing population which is the NY affiliate) didn't even have their numbers counted since it was pre-empted (which means they didn't show Bachelor.. they showed Football since the hometeam was playing) so even with the truncated line up AND a presidential address that people didn't want to watch they only managed to pull a tie. This.. is a problem. We'll see how next week goes but if it doesn't change.. well.. I won't get that far. The chart is AMAZING to watch.. they are literally losing the female demographic in droves. It's actually startling to watch. ANW changed their rules to cater to THIS audience and the experiment is failing hard. You see the pre Presidential address and post address. I'm happy they actually broke it down by hour so you see 3 lines for ANW and Bachelor so you can see by half hour intervals where the demos redistributed. ( Chart + cable)

Never read the "PR" stuff. LOL That's rule number 1 of ratings analysis. Those are always written by getting press releases from the stations directly and notice how they write the numbers and only shows the week to week rise.. it was a rise from last week where there was a presidential address. EVERYONE rose this week since it was an unusually high network watch. They also didn't win the demo - they've lost that all season by a landslide and not just to Bachelor in Paradise - a show they consistently lost for years and somehow are losing big time this year in the demo race. Fast numbers and Final Numbers didn't change. It did for Bachelor in Paradise though and they were adjusted UP while ANW stayed the same. In fact both Bachelor in Paradise and ANW had season highs and in the key demo BIP beat ANW by .2 (they got 1.7 which is a season high for them) even if they had less viewers. The way that's important is WHO is watching vs. how many. You can have a kids show that has millions of viewers but their rating doesn't break 1.0 because none of them are in the target demo range that is used for sponsorship and advertising. American Ninja Warrior (NBC) (8-10 p.m.) 1.5 rating / 6 share 6.47 million viewers The ratings chart explains this in better detail. As a comparison.. Look at LAST season - THIS is last season -Look at the left side of this chart. Look at the key demo - they haven't broken 1.0 in the youth range (their original target demo) and have been splitting the larger demo all season and lost big time to Bachelorette where they never even spoke about this group. Now.. compare this to THIS season.. same week.... see the HUGE shift? Also.. look at the male category. They have been consistently losing this demographic which is odd.. and now the female demo that they used to hold nicely is starting to come down. Adults over 50 is the one demo that has stayed high - so thank your grandma that the show is getting those viewer numbers. LOL However old people are not the key demo (young are) so that's why even though ANW has had a season high in viewers they have are still in 2nd place against the spinoff show from Bachelor that has no right being number 1. LOL Either way - cable numbers for those interested.

OK. But since I love the show, I'm still happy to see numbers that are good in context of this season.
