I'm confused for a few reasons. First.. they backtracked on a few things they gloated about. I doubt the Japanese company was happy about that and forced them to recant a lot of what they said. And Second.. what demographic are they going for? Only my generation will find Space Dandy at all interesting. And I don't particularly care for it. If it ran 30 years ago maybe but I don't expect this will be well received specifically on Toonami. I think Funimation paid too much for an exclusive and put it on the wrong market. Time will tell though.

I don't think so at all. I know a ton of people that are excited for Space Dandy (me and my circle of friends) and I'm certainly not in your generation. There are plenty of people younger than me that are excited as well, some who havn't even watched cowboy bebop.

At Otakon, Watanabe had a panel where he debut the trailer for Space Dandy. I couldn't go due to concert stuff, but from what I heard, the panel was packed and the trailer was received well. I think people my age (a.k.a. people in Adult Swim's target demo) will watch it if they heavily advertise the connection to Cowboy Bebop. After all these years, Bebop still resonates with people. For the time slot it was at, Bebop was still pulling solid numbers on Toonami. Heck, when Funimation announced they had the rights to the DVD and Blu-ray distribution of Bebop, people responded very positively. As for why Toonami is doing this, I have two theories. 1) Jason Demarco really wants to make Toonami successful and has listed airing a world premiere of an anime as one of his goals. Seeing how the entire Toonami staff loves Bebop, going for Watanabe's latest show seems like a given. 2) Back at Otakon, Watanabe straight up said he wanted Space Dandy on Adult Swim. Makes sense when you consider that they helped make him a big name among anime fans in the west. I wouldn't be surprised if he cut Adult Swim a good deal, especially if he believes the show will do better in the US than in Japan (similar to Cowboy Bebop). Personally, I like that Toonami is taking a risk with the show. If it works, there could be a huge positive for the anime industry. I don't know if it'll do better than Bleach, Naruto, and One Piece in the ratings, but I'm sure it will do well. I know I'll watch it. As for the changes to the post, apparently they made a mistake. www.crunchyroll.com/anime-news/2013/10/25-1/toonami-lays-out-more-plansThey're still saying Toonami is airing the show before Japan is, and that the show will be airing at 11:30 in January.

Well the creator also did Kids on a Slope which I thought was a much better series. I think riding on the Bebop train is dangerous because it doesn't even feel like Bebop... not even close. It feels more like a Don Bluth Rockadodle than anything else. Either way I do agree I want success for the sake of the anime industry I just don't think they will be getting anywhere near the numbers they want for it. I don't think the rest of the Toonami audience will hold it up week after week. I know the screw up was pretty epic because they revealed a lot more than they were supposed to and thus pissed off the distribution company. Hopefully it doesn't kill any other potential deals, especially if this doesn't live to the hype.

Another schedule update: Naruto will be leaving the lineup of November 30th. However, Naruto Shippuden will be added to the lineup the same day Space Dandy starts. I imagine the unedited Toonami version will be received better than the edited Disney XD version. Source

The announcements keep coming in. Toonami just announced that Blue Exorcist will be airing on the block, starting in March. I guess this is going to replace Sword Art when that ends.
As for the movies, I'll at least watch Akira and Summer Wars. Confession: I haven't seen Trigun and Fullmetal Alchemist yet.

Yeah.. nothing about Space Dandy is grabbing my attention. I hope they didn't overreach with this.

I personally think it looks amazing. Though I'm surprised Steve Blum isn't voicing the main character in the dub.

I'm not surprised. Steve Blum has never done a dub for Funimation before, due largely to the fact he's located in LA and Funimation is located in Texas.

I'm really enjoying Space Dandy so far. It's the right amount of stupid to work. Also, the show looks gorgeous. Also, I can't stop staring at this gif:
