I re-checked the ratings for the ANW3 finale, and the "America's Got Talent" episode that preceded it was a repeat that got only 25%-33% of the ratings that a new episode usually gets. The good news is that the AGT episodes leading into ANW4 are going to be new this year. My biggest concern now is with the structure of the regional finals; I've only read vague mentions about them here, and if they turn out to consist of one stage and are in the stage 1 style, then I don't know how appealing the idea of watching multiple episodes of unknowns and cult-figures run that type of course is going to be to the average viewer. (I had a tough time sitting through 90 minutes worth of stage 1 attempts for NW27 on G4. Stage 1 to me is carried by the personalities of the contestants and the commentators, and NW27's stage 1 got too repetitive and monotonous for me. I always enjoy the other stages regardless of the contestants because the obstacles are the stars.) We had a whole discussion about the ratings breakdown including articles from the industry who studies the ratings and outside of 1 (NYTimes) they all saw it as a failure. Remember that AGT is not always live and we don't know which day they are going to pick to air it up against it. That said.. there other things people switched to that night when AGT rerun went off the air... When ANW aired the ratings dropped from the 8 pm hour. It only went up after 9:30 when the other stations went local. Even reruns of sitcoms still beat it Anyway it will be interesting to see a week to week. NBC is banking heavily on it especially with the uncertainty of Sasuke Japan ever coming back. If there was ever a time to try this formula.. this is it. I recon it will do better than last year simply because it's it's own show this time and not borrowing from a larger tournament.

Not to mention that, we're starting sooner than the actual runs on the course, while I'd prefer them starting at qualifiers on NBC, Starting at Semis gives a feel for the competitors, let's you get into their stories so you know them better. Not just watching 2 hours of "Who daphuck are these people?"

There was a G4 staff member who claimed American Ninja Warrior was not only G4's #1 rated show last year, but it was also NBC's #1 rated show last summer.

There was a G4 staff member who claimed American Ninja Warrior was not only G4's #1 rated show last year, but it was also NBC's #1 rated show last summer. Well, NBC's ratings are generally god-awful. So...this might have some iota of truth.

There was a G4 staff member who claimed American Ninja Warrior was not only G4's #1 rated show last year, but it was also NBC's #1 rated show last summer. I always ignore what they say about G4's ratings... it is the truth because there's nothing on the network (chuckles) but no they were not the #1 rated show last summer for NBC.. they forget about a few other shows.. notable AGT.. They only look at a single demographic to begin with and they only won that one at the 10:30 hour when network went to local.. they still got slaughtered overall numbers because G4 doesn't give a damn about females, teens or anyone over the age of 30.. LOL No.. they were not the #1 show last summer on NBC.. that's stretching it by a LOT.. they are forgetting Football, the 3 other gameshows (like Minute to win it which beat ANW's share/viewers on a repeat) and other NBC specials like Dateline. So no I don't care how much they spin it.. they didn't win overall NBC last year summer. Unlike TBS.. we get access to the full ratings list of every show here in the USA. They must be smoking something really good.

G4 likes to trumpet whenever they succeed with their key demographic, males between 18 and something. Whenever they say they are number 1 in something, it usually means that.
No matter what, ANW on NBC will run into the following things: NBA play-offs (regular season ends April 28th), WWE RAW (always on Monday, will go head to head with ANW during RAW's second hour), random baseball games, NHL play-offs (regular season ends April something).
Most of those will be on cable so it won't affect ANW's ratings (compared to those shows) but it will eat into G4's prized demographic. Also, out of that list RAW and NHL are actually NBC properties (via the merger), so good job NBC.
Also:
Sometime last year...
NBC: So we've decided to air an American-centric episode of your Ninja Warrior show.
G4: That's great!
NBC: And we're going to pair it with one of our hottest shows!
G4: That's great! Which show?
NBC: America's Got Talent!
G4: That's great! Wait. What?
NBC: It was really popular with the 18 - 49 demographic.
G4: Oh, OK then.
NBC: Yeah! Especially women in the 18 - 49 demo.
G4: Um..that doesn't make sense. Even for us.
NBC: It'll be great! We will use the AGT/NW one-two punch to counter-program all that male-centric sports stuff going on on Monday nights! I mean, who even watches wrestling these days?
(from the corner of the room) USA: Hey! We're on the same team now!
NBC: Yep, we're sure that you'll keep that lead-in audience!

So they have posted the address for the Miami tryouts: Florida International University 11200 S/W 8th St., Miami, FL 33174. On campus during a school week, probably should draw a crowd.

I personally saw that on an ANW Facebook group page by someone who is confirmed to compete in Miami.
As for going up against Raw's 2nd Hour, I guess they are lucky in the sense that Raw's 2nd hour has almost always lost viewers this year, even with WrestleMania about 2 weeks away. Then again, that doesn't mean that those viewers who tune out will go to NBC. Sure as hell aren't going to G4.

NHL regular season ends on the 7th, playoffs begin on the 12th or 13th, assuming I'm remembering the VS ad correctly.

Very true. Not sure why he said August since the question didn't specifically ask about the finals.
Then again, this guy doesn't have a very good track record.

UPDATE: The Northeast & Southeast Regional Tryout in Miami, FL will be held at Florida International University on Tuesday, March 27th and Wednesday, March 28th with the finals happening on Thursday, March 29th. We will be shooting at night for all three dates; there will be no daylight competition. This whole tryout will be at night? That may make things interesting...
