So why weren't there more celebrity competitors this time around if they're so important to the ratings? Did the producers not have enough pull anymore? Did they intentionally not invite them?

They were probably so busy with the whole all 47 prefectures gimmick they didn't focus enough on getting the star power needed

It was recorded during the Winter Olympics. Also during that time when I went to check who was around for the taping of Sasuke 25 a large majority of the names we followed previously in Sasuke were unavailable recording other stuff in other networks. Heck.. one of them slaughtered Sasuke that night...

Excellent entry, Arsenette. I didn't realise that people in Japan were asking you about the airdate. And don't be shy to include the names of posters you quoted Another thing: even though G4 does a lot wrong, one thing they do right is that they advertise the hell out things. G4 made the airdates for NW 23 and 24 crystal clear and there was no way you could miss it.

Arsenette: It was good, but personally I think you should've mentioned the lack of Yamada and Sato. You did mention MM which I guess you can sort of lump Sato into... but the loss of an all-star probably hurt the ratings aswell, even if you don't like him. He has a lot of fans in Japan.

Japan blogs were happy Yamada was gone so I figured not mentioning him was a good thing.. because if I did.. I'd continue to ask for him to stay in retirement So I did ya'll a favor Sato I can't stand but he is part of MM these days and the inclusion of him would have been tied to that group. In terms of the Japanese blogs though he was one of a handful of celebrities people missed. I had already 3 paragraphs on the celebrities so mentioning them by name wouldn't have helped. Lord knows there are a lot more celebrities that would do well. Hopefully M9 branches out and gets more relevant and frankly "bigger" celebrities. They come with a much larger fanbase. Sato does have a big one and he would have been there provided he didn't have a scheduling conflict (he had 4 events in 3 days during that time and was having trouble trying to keep all of his commitments) so I expect him to be back for Sasuke 26.

I don't like Sato either but he's pretty damn helpful for ratings.. He's got a big fanbase in Japan from what I hear (not sure what demographic of people though, I know he has some kids show but I don't know if he is any shows besides that) and didn't in the hour by hour ratings in 22 and 24 ratings were pretty high around stage 2 because he cleared and there was probably some word of mouth in Japan, I have no clue if that word of mouth was more like people calling their friends about Sato clearing and the friends wanted to see him run stage 2 or the friends were like WTF and wanted to see him fail but still.. ratings are ratings XD

At least Sato is a good competitor. I would like to see him attempt the third stage one of these days.

I dont see how Yamada leaveing can possibly be a good thing for ratings, Yes there are a lot of people that dont like him, but how many people do you think quit watching because they dont like him, then magically turned their TV back on when they found out he was gone? I suspect the answer to that is 0.
Now how many do you think didn't watch because he was gone? Maybe not as many as Kane Kosugi but there were a good number I am sure.

Arsenette: Dandy that yellow comedian guy from 26 is very famous in Japan. I mean, obviously there are people more famous than him... but out of all the comedians they've ever gotten he's definitely up there.

Dandy Sakano's peak in popularity was in 2003 - 2004. Amongst the current crop of comedians he's an afterthought. In 24 he was towards the bottom of the list in terms of relevancy and current popularity.
And even at that peak he was never as popular as: Kojima Yoshio Hard Gay (granted HG as on SASUKE before he was famous) Audrey Xabungle Hosshan
He would have been about the same level in popularity as other "one schtick and gone" comedians such as: Eiko Kanno Tetsu and Tomo Edo Harumi Choshu Korikki
And he's not a respected veteran like: Udo Suzuki Wakky
If Dandy Sakano is your "star power" you're probably a local program, not a national one.

I suspect the answer to that is 0. Now how many do you think didn't watch because he was gone? Maybe not as many as Kane Kosugi but there were a good number I am sure. Yes and no. A LOT of the blogs I read were "awww I will miss him but this is good for him" mentality. Even when I read Sasuke 25 blogs .. no one mentioned that they should bring back Yamada at all so it wasn't like "see? they failed because he wasn't there". TBS didn't even bring him up.. heck people were hoping Bunpei was there (even if just in attendance) because they miss HIM more than Yamada. I would think TBS would bring him back if he wanted to come back. Who knows.. he might have a change of heart after looking at the UCH knowing he has no chance of beating it. For all we know he might come back like Bunpei did and just watch and be moral support. Or he could be back and continue the bad streak for longer. I know the blogs in Japan hoped he left rather than come back and continue to fail. They miss Yamada when he was good.. not necessarily Yamada as a person. Thanks Ube for the synopsis on where Dandy falls in. I don't know a LOT of the comedians but I did know Audrey was top tier since I saw so many major commercials with them in it before Sasuke. Let's see if they change anything (not because of the blog.. I'm not that stupid to think they would follow what I say even though I know they read it). All in all we want this to do better.
