This is unadulterated failure. The fact that a celeb-free Sasuke was running against Shou Quiz Time Shock 8 which is nothing but celebs. There also looks to have been another game show running against it on NTV. This is NBC bad. Given the fact that there was controversy with Yuuji with 'da shoes' as I call it.. it might actually be serious that people stopped watching because they didn't like the new generation. I think you said yourself that there's not enough information to conclude one way or the other. If it really is about the shoes, then Viewers Are Morons and just needed an excuse to not watch. Also, I motion that we nickname Yuuji "Mars Blackmon" from now on.

I think part of the ratings tank is due to M9 not taking advantage of the momentum created by Sasuke 23. For whatever reason, new guys really got pushed in the old Maniac shows, but M9 never followed through when it came to Sasuke. The result is that the new guys, even Yuuji, aren't seen by the general viewership to be as charasmatic as the AllStars.
And I agree with Lars about the lack of renewal and Arsenette about the lack of hype. They could have spoiled the obstacles a little earlier (just this once, in honor of the 25th tournament), and made a big deal out of the return of classic obstacles. That might have gotten folks a little more excited.
...or something...

2 other factors we didn't consider.
The big one i think is Yamada. I know most of you all hate him but he was still quite popular in Japan. I can't think of anyone that stopped watching the show because he was there and will magically tune back in cause he's gone. But I can promise there were a lot of people that stopped watched cause he was not there. This was probably a major hit
The other factor is content, they did show trailers which could have turned off some, also there were probably some people that saw it, didn't like it and just tuned out.

Maybe, but not 10% (From what it should be at 17%)
I think more people wanted to watch a movie, or Ice dancing than an obstacle course show. Its that simple.

Caught up on all the posts...
It seems like Sasuke needed celebrities to bring the ratings up, but got crushed by other shows which had celebs and skaters. So no big names.
Then, they trot out old obstacles for 25's 1st Stage (which I'm not complaining or badmouthing), and that seemed to hurt. What's old is new again doesn't always apply.
And, poor buildup for this tourney.
Personally I see tons of potential with the "New Stars" (Kongu, Yuuji, Kano, Okuyama, etc.) but right now there's no one for the audience to latch onto. Over the past 3 tourneys only Kongu has been the most consistent performer, but you'll never see his face on a billboard. The rest of the New Stars and the All-Stars have been inconsistent and in Yuuji's case, a possible turn off.
Seems as this point in Sasuke's lifespan it's either in growing pains or rolling around it's deathbed.

This is unadulterated failure. The fact that a celeb-free Sasuke was running against Shou Quiz Time Shock 8 which is nothing but celebs. There also looks to have been another game show running against it on NTV. This is NBC bad. Spent a good day reading blog post.. The biggest concern was .. wait for it.. "No Sato Hiromichi" (the amount of posts for "Big Brother" was.. staggering... /facepalm. And of course a LOT of griping was due to no celebrities or people they know. You know.. the people WE don't like watching. Something like this has to happen to realize how important those joke competitors are to Sasuke. This is a gameshow in Japan after all. Yamada wasn't in the conversations other than "we miss you and hope you have a good life" type things.. maybe because he's only "Sasuke" famous? I also could not believe the amount of "maybe they are getting too old" posts about the All-Stars. The one that made me laugh outloud was "maybe Nagano IS too short for the renewal".. *chuckles* I think part of the ratings tank is due to M9 not taking advantage of the momentum created by Sasuke 23. For whatever reason, new guys really got pushed in the old Maniac shows, but M9 never followed through when it came to Sasuke. The result is that the new guys, even Yuuji, aren't seen by the general viewership to be as charasmatic as the AllStars. They could have spoiled the obstacles a little earlier (just this once, in honor of the 25th tournament), and made a big deal out of the return of classic obstacles. That might have gotten folks a little more excited. ...or something... 1000% agreed. In the absence of celebrity saturation they had to do something and they did almost nothing to promote this AND Yuuji's win. We knew of course (because we watch it all the time) but did you see ONE Kanzenseiha video out? Even on their site they didn't even mention Yuuji winning. At the demise of Sasuke Maniac they dropped the ball in actually promoting other people besides the All-Stars. You all know I love the All-Stars but they are not the only ones that run this course! Heck.. I was also surprised that they didn't do a Kanzenseiha special to introduce people ahead of time to the "new stars" like they did with Nagano's victory in Sasuke 17. Familiarity to these people might have made the difference. But TBS doesn't think of it that way.

Guys, if I were you, I'd hold one giant relax party. Woah. .... ... ...Goodbye SASUKE. But you haven't figured that out for your self, you're only taking into account what the members here have concluded. Chill I once said Say Goobye, and Say hello. I wasn't only half right, say al naafiysh, bitches.

I still think you're over-reacting. THIS isn't the end. Now if 26, and 27 do bad, then it's probably over. But we already know 26 is pretty much confirmed, and they could easily stick in another.
And if 26 does good, then it's obviously not over.
Before all of you people go crazy and start jumping to conclusions, think about a few things.
1. Why would they build a new muscle park for a dying show? There would be no reason.
2. They just put up a website.
Both those things lead me to believe that Sasuke is alive and well, and still on its feet. They wouldn't waste all their money for those things to go to waste in under a year, no way.
Another thing... Sasuke is being shown in more than just Japan and american... M9 is making hella bank from other countries, and with that money they can easily pay TBS off to keep the show running. As long as they are getting this much money from other countries, they have no reason to stop.
3. Another thing... like Ube said the ratings were expected to be bad... it was put up against freaking world championship figure skating. Plus TBS had other things that did good so like he said this may have not even been noticed.
4. Lack of celebrities including sato, yamada, and comedians. If they are struggling for ratings, they can obviously get them back for 26, yes even Yamada. So the ratings in theory would shoot up for 26.
5. This is ONE tournament. They arn't going to cancel based off of 1 tournament. Konuichi had s***ty ratings for years.
6. Advertising, they could've done a better job with that.
7. 26 is already pretty much confirmed...
Basically you're all freaking out for no reason. This is exactly what happend a few tournies ago... 22 I think it was? Either way, nothing has changed to make me think any different than before. I'm REALLY surprised Arsenette has got onto this bandwagon aswell, considering last time SHE was the one preaching what I am.
Either way, it's much better not to worry about it, and you DEFINITELY should not say Sasuke is over. You have no freaking clue, so keep your negativities to yourself.

No we are not overreacting.. the show has been floundering for quite some time. They were in the danger zone (under 15) for a while now and you all keep forgetting how OLD this show is..
Kunoichi is pretty much canceled.. they had better ratings in the past and never dipped under double digits until Kunoichi 8: The retarded renewal.. Besides.. they got what they wanted.. 2 MM girls as Champions.. mission accomplished. That's all the show was a vehicle for anyway.
Sasuke has NEVER been in single digits.. they have never lost to everything that night. Sasuke has at least been solid 2nd and even won their timeslot.. they weren't even CLOSE to winning anything on Sunday. It was the single biggest blowout.. They lost to a friggin' movie.. Sure they were expected to lose to Worlds but they were not in 2nd.. or 3rd.. or 4th.. They were 2nd to last for the entire night..
One thing I've always said and I will say it again. If Japan doesn't like this show.. it's over.. ANW is not a confirmation for Sasuke .. G4 can easily turn that into American Sasuke with no one going on to the real Sasuke. So if it is canceled.. G4 still got their money's worth... provided people enter ANW knowing there is no Sasuke at the end of the tunnel..

Lars, this has nothing to do with the contents of the tournament, so just shut up please? Thank you. To be honest even though this is a bad thing, I don't think THIS spells the end for Sasuke. Now if 26 does bad the show would be in trouble... but they are still making a lot of money off of it. Why build a new muscle park if Sasuke was just going to get canceled months after in was finished? I think because of G4 and all the other countries airing Sasuke, it's earning M9 and TBS quite a lot of money, so even if ratings are bad it'll probably stay for a little while. I personally even at this point could see it going to 30. Hey, we are all entitled to our opinions on here so I will respectfully acknowledge yours. But quit the childish remarks bada...and that won't shut me up little buddy!

Remember everyone before you read my post that this is just my OPINION..if you can't handle that then please get some therapy.
Moving on...I can't believe that figure skating and a movie that we've all seen 50 times beat out SASUKE- crushed it! That's not good and TBS/M9 really need to consider what to do for the next cmpetition. I think it's good that it's 6 months away (I assume) so they can have lots of time to think what went wrong and how to rectify those problems.
I think this whole 'renewal' came about way too fast and more thought (and time) should have been given. They really dropped the ball...hopefully the producers look at the reasons stated in this thread and go from there.

Hopefully IF sasuke 26 airs, they'll get some stars out there.
I think, maybe, M9 or TBS thought that the show was a garenteed success due to it being a "Renewal" and all.
Regardless, they need to "Sell out" a bit imo. More hot girls, celebs, and joke competitors.
I didn't laugh very much during Sasuke 25. Thats key to the ratings. It has to be just as funny as it is exciting, thats what makes Sasuke so great.
They need to take a lesson from G4's book. Not the "How to Kill your Fanbase" chapter, but the "How to gain ratings" chapter.

Actually lars it would be good to do a separate thread on the actual content of the show because it does have a point in how this particular one was presented. It was a huge risk what they did. Unfortunately it doesn't deal with the actual ratings issue.. but I would like to discuss it. Think you can cut and paste and start a new thread on the format of Sasuke 25?
