I've been praying for all of you in the East. Please heed all warnings and take all neccesary precautions. I'm still hoping for a wild curve to the east that would miss everyone. It's not likely at this point, but even a small deviation (in the right direction) from the projected path would benefit a ton of people. Please stay safe. Thanks. We're about as prepared as can be here at Chez Snowy in central Maryland. Full tank of gas, fully charged cellphone, 3 flashlights with new batteries, a couple of pitchers of water, some cash, a good supply of food (junk and otherwise ). Tomorrow, I'll draw a couple of buckets of water to flush toilets if necessary. Already got a couple of chairs in the bathroom (it's huuuge!). Must also take time to clean off the cat carrier and make a packet of Very Important Documents in case we have to bug out in spite of everything. I'm lucky to live in an area where most power lines are underground, so it'll take a lot to lose electricity unless they have to take down a grid. Traffic is certain to be a mess, so I plan to hunker down for the duration if at all possible. With any luck, all these preparations will ensure this won't be the Big Event the media is predicting. It's gonna suck if the hurricane comes up the Bay. Batten down, folks! Oh, and spare a thought for the folks who work at the utilities and the National Guard (you too, Strat!) who'll be sure to get dragged into this mess sooner or later.

Yeah National guard is already mobilized in our area simply because we aren't used to these things even a cat 1 is going to give us problems because we are already AT flood stage with the storms we've been having and one that absolutely clobbered us down in South jersey today. I'm not worried about my building or having floods where I am but I am worried about electricity. Everything in my apartment is electricity including stove.. so if it goes out I'd have to rely on non cooked meals until they get it back up. Given how populated my area is (we are the most densely populated state in the union) the length of time to restore things is going to be long given how much has to be fixed. Normal storms take a couple hours.. this can take a few days. I'm already cringing at seeing everything in my fridge go bad and no way to cook it.. and no we can't use an indoor grill. I have no balcony or a place to ventilate the fumes. Worse case is that if we need anything we can go to family or friends with gas ranges. Still it's going to be a while until things calm down. I just hope people heed the warnings and get out for those in flood prone areas (there are a lot around here sadly) and with the Delaware predicted to break it's banks.. that's.. going to be a problem. I hasn't in my lifetime.

It may hit Ground Zero and destroy that whole area. Which would be ironic considering it's almost the 10 year anniversary.... god bless america..?

No idea honestly. Haven't paid attention to where the Hudson is expected to flood though it's supposed to go into the sound.. I'm worried about the water supply. So if you guys are in the scope of this.. make sure you have a lot of water.. you might not be able to use the water supply without having to boil it if all the major water reservoirs are contaminated from the flooding... I've seen this happen in the tropics before and most of ya'll aren't used to this up here so if you are in the area.. make sure you have drinking supply as well for a few days until they can get a handle on it. I don't expect the wind to cause too many issues outside of down power lines.. but the water.. there's nowhere for that to go. Be careful ya'll.

Well... I don't think it gets any worse when a hurricane is coming directly towards you and you're living in Long Island, New York. These floods are going to be absolutely horrific, not to mention the almost 100% chance that my house will be bombarded with tree after tree due to the strong winds... Luckily for me, my dad is a worst case scenario finatic, and has hooked our house up with 5! power generators. We also have an extremely sturdy basement with a 2 Ton pool table for coverage... you know, everyone likes forts! And due to our exess amount of electricity we'll be having, I'll be living it up in my favorite leather couch, playin the good ole' xbox, while crankin those tunes untill Monday morning just to look outside and estimate how pissed off our insurance providers are gonna be. (We have EVERYTHING insured.) Alright, so 3 cases of bottled water, refrigerator up and running (Might be literal on that onw, depends on how strong those winds are!), generators to the MAX, this is gonna be a sweet experience. Anyway, good luck to my fellow East Coasters, and, ohhh... one more thing. To that rich, arrogant, stuck up family that lives around the block fron me with the horse corral, I can't wait to wake up monday morning just to see every last one of those horses... well, you get the picture! ^_^

Make your boss drive you home.. He drove me home last week, so why not? LOL. If there's a party, then I have to be there to wait tables. If not, good, I can watch UFC. =D

If not, good, I can watch UFC. =D Seriously though do talk to him to drive you home if you are forced to work. You have no other legitimate form of transportation with the mayor shutting down public trans and evacuating key areas of the metroplex. Make sure you know how you are getting home before going to work. It's going to be a mess regardless of how windy it is. Just got a phone call from my electric company urging me to take precautions as they expect to have power outages over the weekend (frankly as I was stating before.. I am expecting it as well). They mentioned that it might be a couple of days before they can restore their region.. oh well..
