The ratings for 25 completely collapsed from 11.7% in 24 to 7.5% the lowest (in percentage) until 36 and 37. It should be mentioned 24 was aired on new years day where TV viewership in Japan was much higher which would naturally deflate the ratings in terms of percentage but in raw numbers (which is what mainly matters) 24 probably had more than 22 and 23 and if it was aired some other day before new years would probably have a ratings percentage higher than 22 and 23's 14.7 and 14.1 rating. 36 and 37 also were aired on new years and in raw numbers probably had more than 25 and would have a higher rating if aired some other day.
This makes the drop for 25 even more significant. What do you think happened? The show had just crowned a new grand champion and would be under going another exciting renewal like we saw in 18 which had a massive increase from 14.7% in 17 to 17.5%.
To anyone who was following the show back in 2010 what do you think happened? Do you think Yamada not competing harmed ratings? Was it too soon after 24? Did something happen in March 2010 in Japan that could have harmed ratings?

Simply a case of too much SASUKE crammed into a short time period. 24 is sort of wedged into the semi-regular schedule of Spring/Fall the show had at the time. Having another show less than three months later also doesn't build anticipation amongst viewers and especially those who are trying to get on the show.

Contaxt also matters. Reading 13 year old ratings in isolation never is helpful. We had a long discussion about ratings when it happened. Here's the link. On top of what Ube mentioned, they ran the event against the Ladies World Figure Skating Championship Free Skate (with Japan's Mao Asada's in contention that year). World Championships crushed everything winning the night with 22.6. So seeing Sasuke in isolation without knowing what the competition that night was.. won't fully answer your question. Edit: This is also right before the collapse of Monster 9 and Sasuke being cancelled. It was a perfect storm during that time period of Higuchi's empire imploding.

Do you think if they waited until May 2010 the rating would have been batter?

It's very interesting on the second page of the linked thread they discuss how Yamada's absence may have contributed to the rating slump. Do you think there is any correlation with Yamada's results/presence on the show and the ratings? Like for example the show's rating high in Sasuke 7 may have been contributed by people being hyped to see how Yamada would do after his near stage 3 clear in Sasuke 6

Like for example the show's rating high in Sasuke 7 may have been contributed by people being hyped to see how Yamada would do after his near stage 3 clear in Sasuke 6 I keep mentioning this every single time ratings are brought up. Ratings are a measure of how many people turned on the television to watch that channel during that time. It is not a measure of "how good" or even the content of the show in question. Whether it's Sasuke or anything else. So while there is discussion of what was IN the show (and there were threads after threads of that in the Sasuke 25 subforum) it has NOTHING to do with ratings. If it helps, I did an entire blog post of what happened with the ratings that night 13 years ago. Hope it helps answer your questions.
