So according to Sasukepedia as well as the Double Warped Wall we’ve got a modified Silk Slider, and the time limit’s been raised to 100 seconds.... Yeah it's just one side of the silk slider from last time that you hang from Innovation that excites

Seeing Yamada competing again makes me so angry because this person is my least favourite All-Star who hasn’t even made it past the 1st Stage for the last eighteen years and should’ve f**king retired a long time ago! I would’ve preferred to see Nagano or Takeda (who sadly did retire) and find out whether they’d have a good chance to break the age record and clear Stage 1 but Yamada returning is just absolutely pathetic because he has zero chance of clearing and I hope he fails the Rolling Hill or the third obstacle so I never ever have to see his face on the course again. Even more reason why I won’t be excited to watch this year’s tournament is because just like in 37, it was seemingly raining during the 1st Stage which gives me a very bad feeling that lots of top challengers will fail early again. Get on with it bud. Dude is just obsessed with SASUKE, he will be in the SASUKE scene until it dies. He is really bugging me now with his fake retirements and clearly has an erection over this program when there are more important things to worry about.

Bro the guy is literally called Mr. SASUKE, despite his questionable personality traits in the early tournaments, it's him you have to thank for the show still existing today.
Besides, he's matured into a coach-like figure and isn't brutally obsessed with achieving Total Victory himself anymore. He's built much more of a rappor with fellow competitors and he's really invested himself into training and building the younger generation of competitors. It's pretty admirable rather than just calling it quits altogether.
I don't see why it's a problem that he competes given that he's really running for the fun of it these days and is undoubtedly a huge driving factor behind the hype of the tournament. That's also why he's been given #96, because he's effectively a celebrity in the Sasuke world at this point. It's not because anyone thinks he's going to reach the 3rd Stage.
Just deal with it.

The truth is that he is still my least favourite All-Star and always will be.

I don’t think you’re alone in that regard, but seriously there’s not much you can do. He’s competing, so just accept that.
Also given that numbers 92-97 aren’t as likely to clear as they were in 38, it’s not like Yamada’s run is going to be a massive immersion breaker which was the case when he got #97 in 38.

The numbering in the 90s this year is unacceptable because Tada got bumped down to #91 despite outperforming everyone bar Yoshiyuki and Morimoto last time and for some reason, a couple of random nobodies were given higher positions than him, but 96-98 annoys me the most because Kawaguchi and Darvish should’ve been bumped down or at least stayed in the same positions as last time for their last two poor performances, (you and your frickin bias Inui) and Yamada should’ve been grouped with his Black Tigers, as he is nowhere near deserving of 90s which imo should only be reserved for people who have a chance to clear the 1st Stage and with him, he’s far too slow as molasses and is as old as how Mr. Octupus used to be when he was always failing early in the course.

Yamada probably stands no chance of beating Stage 1 as long as the Dragon Glider exists. Has anyone over 50 ever beaten it? I don't think so, and it doesn't seem possible.

According to the official video, the obstacles that have been confirmed are: {Spoiler} 1st Stage: 1. Quad Steps 2. Rolling Hill 3. ?(Seems like Silk Slider) 4. Fish Bone 5. Dragon Glider 6. Tackle Machine 7. Double Warped Wall
2nd Stage: 1. Rolling Log 2. Salmon Ladder Nobori + 3. ?(Maybe is Salmon Ladder Kudari) 4. Spider Walk + 5. Spider Drop 6. Backstream 7. Reverse Conveyor 8. ?(Maybe is Wall Lift)
3rd Stage: 1. Flying Bar + 2. Sidewinder 3. New Obstacle looks like Falling Shelves 4. Cliffhanger Dimension 5. Vertical Limit(Same as SASUKE 38) 6. Pipe Slider
Final Stage: 1. Rock Climb 2. Salmon Ladder 3. Rope Climb
{Spoiler} Congrats to Yusuke on his 3rd Kanzenseiha! Holy balls, that was unexpected, even for someone his caliber.

Yeah seriously the degree of success on the show has never been so monopolised by a single competitor as it is now. Even Nagano wasn’t THAT far ahead of guys like Bunpei or Takeda. Yusuke has made the Final Stage 4 times now, each time having been the only competitor to attempt it, and has won twice. Basically everyone else chokes at the Cliffhanger. The pattern of results are getting a bit monotonous now.
Don’t get me wrong; whatever the outcome I’m hella excited that we have a tournament this year, but I just want to see some new faces exceed rather than Yusuke just dominating again and again. Easier said than done given that the guy has no blatant weaknesses and he’s not even 30 years old so we’re not gonna see the same level of decline that Nagano experienced for a while. Like I really want to see someone just come out of nowhere and obliterate the course, like Yuuji in 22 or Rene in 37. Hopefully some of the rock climbers competing can give a good run.
A part of me feels that Inui wants Yusuke to win again because of the spectacle and hype that a Kanzen brings about, but personally I just see it as a failure of a renewal and if anything means he’ll have to spend even more money for yet another ‘renewal’ for Sasuke 40. Oh well.

Yeah, the one thing that struck me about the line-up this year was that there really aren't that many promising competitors. It's basically just Yusuke, Yoshiyuki, and maybe Tada. And while it's nice to see Kanno, Ryo, Hioki, Kawaguchi, and all the other regulars again, I think it's fair to say that none of these guys are promising kanzenseiha material any more.
Basically, the New Stars have faded and no one has really stepped up to fill their shoes (the "Morimoto Sedai," if it even officially exists, has mostly been a non-starter). I'd like to see a new generation of competitors appear at this point. But I'm not sure Sasuke is still popular enough to inspire the sort of passion and zeal that inspired Morimoto ~10 years ago.

That’s not entirely true. There are loads of guys I randomly see on Instagram and YouTube who are insanely athletic and train religiously for Sasuke, some of whom can do crazy tricks like 3 metre long Cliffhanger transitions and weighted Vertical Limit, yet they don’t seem to ever compete. Clearly they’re talented enough but I suppose Inui just wants yet more joke competitors and celebrities, so either they don’t apply for some reason or they never get the call back.
But yeah agreed, the first thing I thought about this line up was that it was pretty sparse. No Nagano, Sato, Takeda, or any foreigners for that matter. A LOT of celebrities this time, but I do like how they’ve invited a fair few rock climbers to compete. Usually the celebrity pro athletes mostly fail Stage 1 as they’re usually like footballers who don’t train in a way that’s advantageous to Sasuke, but pro rock climbers really could be interesting indeed.

That’s the point and the obvious reason why I’m so annoyed about him competing again. Even if Shingo has a slim chance of beating Stage 1, I’m still glad to see him continuing to participate because he’s much more of a likeable character than the former and still has a possibility to clear, if he doesn’t pull another Shingo anywhere on the course, but is more unlikely now given his older age.

In the nicest way possible I really hope Yusuke doesn’t win again this year. I agree with you, I wanted him to win last year so that the course would’ve been heavily modified with new obstacles, but it didn’t go according to plan thanks to Inui’s fricking low budget. I also hope he doesn’t achieve Total Victory again this year because it’s indeed becoming repetitive and tiresome now, as he has already won twice and I don’t mind if he wins again at least one more time at some point in the future, however it should be time to pass the baton to someone else for now, which would be way more exciting. Yoshiyuki is probably the best bet, given his all-round abilities to destroy the course and with his amazing speed, there’s a genuine possibility of him winning it all and if he does, I’ll be relieved that Yamada’s long-lasting dream has finally been achieved. And r/e celebrities, even though I understand that it’s to improve the ratings for more viewers to watch SASUKE, I’m extremely annoyed there are FAR too many of them being chosen to participate this year and this is another one of the reasons why I won’t watch the competition and why I don’t like Inui because he also chooses to spotlight some challengers like Kawaguchi and Darvish, in terms of favouritism than success which isn’t the right way to go. Not to mention that he doesn’t even want to invite random citizens of Japan who are REALLY passionate about the show and have been training intensively for a long time and definitely deserve to get the chance to participate, as one of them could probably make it far into the 3rd Stage in their rookie attempt but never manage to do so. Honestly, not only will this tournament be exactly like a repeat of SASUKE 38 but also feel like a celebrity special with probably about 75% or more of the broadcast just excessively focusing on them instead of the more successful challengers like Tada etc.
