What does the post exactly say? The original post featured a picture of him holding a child on his Insta page with a bunch of hashtags, two of which being his name and the word "retirement". A Japanese commenter (the one we see in the picture) says "The child is cute! Are you retiring from SASUKE?" to which Takeda responds with "I've already done it."

Unfortunate if true, I'd say to any folk in contact with him, try and maybe encourage him, if he's able, to do one final tournament with 40.

So now we have 4 All-Stars retired officially, 1 who's been in limbo for over 20 years cause he just can't bring himself to quit, and then there's Shingo.

Takeda was more or less forced to retire after his heart surgery, otherwise I doubt he'd have stopped. We'll still get to see 3 All-Stars take the stage at SASUKR 40 at least. Could be their last hoorah for all we know.

Haha gonna go cry for an hour Seriously though, I am devastated. Knew it was coming but still. I just wish we had known it was the end at the time.

They really should invite him to 40 and make a clip celebrating his performances and consistency on the show. Maybe, if he is able, let him test the new final. Would be a great send off.

Sad to hear it. My favorite competitor of all time. At least his last run was a good one all things considered. BREAK THROUGH!

Can someone please elaborate? Was it a shoulder or a heart surgery? I'm so confused right now.

Can someone please elaborate? Was it a shoulder or a heart surgery? I'm so confused right now. I'm very confident that it was heart surgery judging from his posts and the comments below them, which pretty much explains why Takeda has pretty much been MIA in terms of training and his personal updates have been super scarce. Even with the shoulder issues it'd make 0 sense for him to retire. In SASUKE 38 he was probably as fit as we've ever seen him and it was evident that he was still capable for reaching at least Stage 2 without much trouble.

I mean is there any evidence to suggest he had heart surgery? If not it’s pretty safe to assume it was his shoulder acting up again, given that that’s been his only major recurring injury, and he considered retiring after he dislocated it in 36 as well. He probably decided to retire when he worked so hard to build himself back up from nothing in preparation for 38, only for his shoulder to dislocate again. He probably figured it wasn’t worth permanently debilitating himself, especially given that as you get older, these injuries can become chronic and debilitate you for life. Besides, the guy’s healthy by all other means and heart surgeries are super rare unless you’ve got an underlying condition or you’re f***ing your life away through bad habits like smoking. Personally I think if that’s the case then it was the right choice to make. I mean Kanno has literally spent half of the last few years either in hospital or a cast because he doesn’t know when to call it quits. Takeda made the smarter choice imo. Sasuke is infectious but it’s not worth destroying your body and your future health away for.

Well Takeda does smoke and drink (as do Nagano and Shingo). I remember when that special from ANC 2 showed Nagano with a lit cigarette, seemed to upset quite a few people.

Difference between smoking recreationally and smoking a pack a day. Takeda wouldn’t have been able to be a firefighter nor a gym trainer if he smoked or drank to the level of needing heart surgery because of those causes. Besides, pretty much every competitor drinks every now and then, even Yoshiyuki who’s like -50% body fat.

If it was just shoulder surgery, I'd say he should really try to give one last hoorah in 40 as a send off or atleast have a special event/part of the tournament maybe allowing him to attempt the final stage.

I heard about this quite a bit quicker as someone mentioned it to me on one of my own insta posts. I, of course, knew NOTHING of his heart surgery so I got a little... emotional which cut ties between me and him friendship wise. Now I know better and I really hope he's ok...

Coming back to this to say that it's widely reported in the japanese community that Takeda underwent surgery for atrial fibrillation, so we can rule out that the shoulder was the primary reason behind this decision.

Coming back to this to say that it's widely reported in the japanese community that Takeda underwent surgery for atrial fibrillation, so we can rule out that the shoulder was the primary reason behind this decision. Damn I guess my natural reaction when I first heard he had surgery was that it was his shoulder, given that that's almost exclusively been the cause of him being sidelined from competition for the last two decades. That's honestly really shocking especially given that he cleared Stage 1 less than a year prior. Also the causes of atrial fibrillation are all things like heart or lung diseases, neither of which I reckon he had because surely such conditions would've prevented him from being a firefighter and gym trainer. I have heard that he smokes but I assumed it was just casually and again, the amount he would have to smoke to get a lung condition would prevent him from his former careers well before that. Clearly he'd been unwell for most of last year given that he suddenly went MIA on social media. I just hope he's doing ok now.

Man, this is genuinely devastating.
Oh well, hopefully if his health allows it he can do what Nagano does and attend competitions even though he isn't competing. Seems likely given how strong the Takeda-Nagano-Shingo bond is.

Well he did show up to 27 despite not competing, so there's still hope that he won't fade out entirely.
