I think a lot of ppl who say they miss the boot camp era aren’t really missing the camp style so much. I think they miss what those particular episodes gave us, which was a more in-depth feel for those particular competitors.
For the majority of the ppl on this forum, I’m sure that we feel much more emotionally invested in the guys from those shows than the newer ppl today. Even if some of the stuff was dramatized up a bit, we all felt like we got to know them. A heck of a lot more than today’s 3-4 min fluff/sob story pieces. It was nice getting to know them a bit, but you could tell it was hurting them. The injuries from janky obstacles and challenges definitely didnt help their Sasuke results.

I feel like the people who want boot camp back are secret agents from NBC, interns sent here for the sole fact of saying "Hey, you know how we're going too much in the reality TV route nowadays? Remember when you had several episodes and the bulk of the season literally a reality tv series? Still wanna complain?" or something.
In all seriousness no, boot camp was a terrible idea, made for terrible viewing, and was terrible for the competitors, limited your training time and everyone was unhappy about the del taco (especially vegetarians like David). Instead of "Hey rest whenever and train whenever so you can prepare in the way that suits you best" you got stuck in a week of "You'll only be able to do this when we want you to"

Its funny about Patrick, he got so much hate on the G4 boards that David Campbell had to go on to defend him.

Another part is seeing the people actually competing out in the desert and working as a team through different types of challenges. That felt more "real" and there was no need for politically correct commentary (not to get into that) on a smaller network. Well I'm not this mean, but the other year my uncle made an account on this forum that I believe was called patrick_cusic as a reference to his infamous moment

It's funny how this topic gets brought up years after it happened in a vacuum with nothing else around it. People forget how THIS was the only way to get to Sasuke effectively eliminating qualifiers completely all for a Survivor'esk show that did nothing to train the athletes. I remember David Campbell talking about that where he they secluded you for almost 2 weeks and stunted your training. He got to Japan and felt that if he had that time back he would have done better since he could actually train more. So no it's a stunt for people who could get almost a month off of work which effectively eliminates the normal person from trying to get on the show and compete on Sasuke. Also, Vegas is filled now with 100'ish people.. you want a boot camp replacing Vegas? Because logistically it won't work at all with the 75,000 entrants to ANW each year. This format was despised for those of us who lived through it. Hindsight and late-comers to it have no idea how bad it was because they only saw the isolated episodes of their favorite handful of people without understanding how limiting and stupid the entire show really was. We were glad it was canceled so quickly and there's no need to bring it back. Survivor still exists.. watch that instead. Well Campbell did the best out of any competitor in sasuke 26 and did really well in 27 both times he went through bootcamp so it must have helped him whether he believed it or not.Bootcamp also had high ratings because it paved the way for the ANW we know.It had a great balance of competition and the true spirit of Ninja warrior aswell as providing great entertainment, shame it only lasted 3 seasons.

So wait...it used to be that they sent them to boot camp, afterwards they were sequestered for a month until they went to Sasuke then? That seems really odd if I’m reading right

I think filming would’ve taken at least 11 days.
Haven’t watched for a while but I believe the team challenge/punishment, team relay and Heavenly Ropes were all on separate days?

It was a bit short of 2 weeks, I think you misread "almost a month" for "a month", there's also travel to worry about if you're not from that area of California. But it was the "Almost 2 weeks" that you were sequestered for the taping.

Wow... what a trip through memory lane.. Terrible viewing? They were some of the best ANW episodes there was. In what world? They had the worst ratings and as a result they scrapped boot camp... only fans of those competitors liked that aspect but it was universally reviled and people stopped watching the boot camp episodes. Ratings are posted online... it's not a subject of conjecture. If you loved it that's fine but it was one of the worst rated series in all of ANW's history because of how polarizing it was. There's no reason to rewrite history 8 years later. We lived it in real time.

Perosnally I wouldn't mind if they made it a segment of All-Stars (without the isolation of course, and perhaps faster pace too).
I dunno, I don't care about it much.

There's no reason to rewrite history 8 years later. We lived it in real time. I thought the Boot Camp was extremely successful as it inspired the creation of the Vegas course No. The Vegas thing was inspired by Monster 9 (producers of Sasuke) going bankrupt and Sasuke getting cancelled. The ratings for the Sasuke portion of ANW (their "finals") were high enough on NBC to be considered as a replacement for a failed summer schedule on NBC. Back then, NBC was the 4th rated station and they hadn't had a hit in the summer in 10 years. "ANW finals" was what was rating high enough. They didn't show boot camp on network television (it was shown on G4TV and their ratings for that portion tanked).. they showed the 10 competing on Sasuke on NBC only. Given the yearly format they started with ANW on G4 they realized they had to think of something. So as a result they created ANW4 because Sasuke 28 was nowhere to be found. It wouldn't be for another year that Sasuke 28 would be revived so NBC did ANW4 and ushered a new era of the show you know today. They never looked back and never used ANW as a qualifier to Sasuke.
