Never understood why Floridians want to ride out the storm.. it's like they want to live in darkness surrounded by flood waters and debris on purpose. No one remembers Andrew or learned what happened in Houston. They had plenty of time to just take a road trip and go somewhere safe until Irma passed... but nope..

Dammit.. they are forecasting Cat 4 right over the whole damn island of Puerto Rico. Even if it goes north it's still going to hit it at that strength.. Gah.. they are still recovering from the last one and this one is going to hurt.. bad.. I'm so friggin' worried and so is my family.

Please don't let that hit Cuba, they already don't have power or water from Irma.

Puerto Rico right now is about 1/4 still without water and power since the infrastructure under the bankruptcy (and corruption) are causing a crapload of issues and they aren't restoring power fast enough between storms. So it's really bad and with this one hitting the whole island it could be months for parts of the island (including the East coast who got hit the last time). I'm so frustrated.. wish I could get my family to move off the island but that's just not practical for them since they don't speak English. Edit.. it's now Cat 4 (was 2 this morning)

It apparently just got reclassified as Cat 5 and is hours from hitting Martinique+Guadeloupe which are a lot more prepared than St Barth and St Martin were two weeks ago so there's that. It's sadly certainly going to cause a lot of damage but I hope it at least avoids areas that already suffered through Irma.

In 12 hours that sucker dropped 50 millibars and went 3 full categories. At this pace it will hit Puerto Rico as a Cat 5.. something that hasn't happened in 89 years.. It was bad enough that the rain was going to exacerbate the flooding.. but the wind is going to cause some real real big problems. My heart goes out to Dominica.. this is their first Cat 5 in recorded history.

First Harvey, then Irma and now Maria?! This may very well be the worst season on record! D: Nah it's not but it's awful close.. For us who lived in the islands during the last cycle.. the back to back storms were terrifying since we didn't have a lot of warning. Now we get up to the minute warnings in our fingertips. A lot of the younger generation though haven't experienced this before so they are doing stupid mistakes. I'm hoping at least given the past month more people just leave precarious places and either fly out or go to a shelter then ride out a storm that can kill. Hell.. Irma wasn't a direct hit in Puerto Rico and it killed people and this one is going across the island possibly like Georges did but with the strength stronger than Hugo. Hell.. "Hugo" is a bad name in the tropics.. sends shivers down a lot of our spines hearing it... Maria right now looks worse.

And yeah.. this is just the beginning.. this might go up the coast and slam into the outer banks. Lord knows they haven't gotten this yet this year.. as a reminder to my friends who weren't around for Hugo.. Hugo leveled Puerto Rico's Northeast coast then slammed into the Carolinas killing a bunch of people and flooding a loooooooot of places in between. Maria is stronger right now earlier but depends what happens after it hits land. Remember what happened to Irma when it slammed into Cuba.

Ugh I feel terrible for them.. I hope they evacuated the people like they did for Barbuda/St. Marteen when Jose passed by.

I actually will get to experience a bit of Jose as I fly to NJ tomorrow to see family, and Jose will be directly affecting Newark airport since it is on the coast. Maria has taken me by surprise as most of the forecasts said only Cat 3, however same situation was with Harvey as it was only forecasted to be Cat 1 until the last day or two. Thanks to Jose, looks like Maria won't affect the east coast too much, however still too soon to tell but a lot of the spaghetti models favor it not having a US impact including the GFS & Canadian models.

It's back to 5. Puerto Rico is getting hit with this one. They haven't had a 5 in 89 years. I honestly though could care less about the winds.. the rain on an area that still doesn't have power or running water is just insult to injury.. the wind is what is making it far far worse. So whether it hits as a 4 or 5 is kinda irrelevant. The sustained winds of inland mountains being 155 for a day is what is making me nauseous. Not even Hugo did that.. and Hugo devastated the island. Georges went directly East to West taking the whole island.. and it still wasn't this powerful. So while this is not as big as Irma was.. it's going to hit Puerto Rico.. and that is what is making me so nervous.

FACEPALM... Pressure dropped.. it's down to 920 and the winds corresponded with the change.. it's up to 165 mph sustained.
