It's here.. missed Cat 5 by 1 mph so it's totally irrelevant.. It came in WAAAY south since the eyewall replacement cycle made it jog south.. so as a result the eyewall is right over my family's house (the one I grew up in). Radars are down, wind gauges are down.. and hotel roofs are being ripped off.. HOTEL ROOFS.. I'm beside myself.

I'm vomiting tweets on twitter. Power is out in the entire island (not surprisingly) but the rain is epic. This is worse damage than Georges was. You have epic flooding up in the mountains (not the ones near rivers, lakes.. that's obvious).. it rained so bad (25-35 inches of rain in 24 hours) that you had rivers of rainwater flooding towns up in the mountains in areas that NEVER flooded. I'm watching in horror places I know don't flood which look like rapids. Thank goodness no reports of fatalities - I'm hoping that is because those who knew it was going to flood they are in evacuation centers. It's bad though.. hotels and concrete structures being destroyed and inland flooding that has never happened. It's only halfway over. The eye just peeked into the Atlantic but it's still over Puerto Rico.
The island fits in South Jersey to give you an idea of size. So doesn't matter where the eye is.. the entire island will remain in the windfield until tomorrow.

Just an update. I’m still at LEX. Newark delayed us till 8:30pm as the airport is behind due to the tropical system. It’s sunny and clear here where I am and supposedly where my family is in Jersey it is similar there.

arsenette, I hope your family makes it out OK. I'm listening to the news right now about Maria, and it sounds terrifying. I can't imagine how you feel with family in the area. Best wishes.

No communication at all. Power is out and they are saying it may take 4 months to get power back (the whole grid is down for the whole island) and a lot of cell towers fell. Communication is sparce. Calls just go straight to voicemail or don't go through at all. That unfortunately is to be expected - it was the same for Georges and I didn't hear back for a week for that one. In the meantime I'm on pins and needles and nauseous watching the news of areas I know never flooded before.

I haven't been able to get online to say how the flight went. Yes, I'm safe. I saw the storm clouds when almost in Newark, however it was like a normal day there that was just cloudy. Not bad storm surge at all, no winds, and was hot & humid.

Post-Tropical Cyclone Jose 2am EDT Adv Current Satellites Project Path Spaghetti Model for Path I posted Jose because the models are all over the place with this damn storm. What makes it interesting is some of the tracks take it down south on the east coast. Just weird.

Alright so update on Jose. Looks like a lot of the models are starting to agree that the "Nor'Easter" type storm will make it's way down south on the east coast. However, there's still a chance that it'll just disappear in the spot it's at right now. Maria looks like it's not gonna affect the east coast minus some winds and storm surge on the Carolina's coasts as it will be increasing in size (but will still be weakening due to Jose mixing up colder waters).

No word from family yet. It's chaos down there with mass looting, lines for gasoline/diesel (some to run cars but most to run generators), lack of water, lack of electricity and of course the glorious governmental corruption and mismanagement. People forget that you don't get 30 billion dollars in debt overnight.. the same idiots that ran this country to the ground are the same ones who are expecting the USA to magically bail their sorry selves out of this mess. So in the meantime, the people in between are suffering and dying.

Got word on 2 of my aunts on the west side of the island. They both evacuated and it saved their lives. 1 aunt returned home and her home is gone - total loss. Efforts are being made by my cousins to get to the island to find a way to get through the only road to her and get her out back to the USA. We are hoping FEMA gets to her so she can tarp what is left of her home to save the little that is still there. In the meantime a little further south on the west side again we got a phone call (to my Mom - her sister) that she is still with her daughter and they are okay. Her house though is still under water since she's on a beach town and the ocean is still inland. But she's safe and further inland and she is happy she evacuated after her daughter's insistence. No word yet on Mom's brother yet. No word on anyone on the East side of the island which was harder hit - that's all Dad's side of the family. I'm still praying.

Got a text from my cousin Mari (the one I reference in the video) and she's okay. She had to travel to another town entirely just to get a signal. I'm hoping to get a status report on the rest of her family if she knows by this point.
Edit: Posted video
