Yes, but we do watch a show where 100 competitors run on the exact same course. So, it doesn't really bother me too much for the same thing.

Managed to get access to the Japanese version, and I got to say, it is more enjoyable than the us version, at least to me.

Agree about the course needing more variation.
If I remember correctly though, whenever they skipped the first obstacle, the contestants did seem to be standing still on the platform, rather than walking over to the next obstacle, so I really think they just decided to not use some every few weeks. Unless at the end they knew they would cut the obstacle so they had the contestants stand on the platform to make it look like that was where they started from. I dunno, it just seems more likely to me that they didn't use the easier obstacles some weeks, rather than cut them.

From reviewing footage from Episode 5 (where they used none of the Mother Tongue/Throat Erosion area obstacles), I get the strong feeling that no one failed those obstacles so they just retconned them out to avoid the episode from running long. Confusing and dumb, sure, but at least that's an explanation. Yeah it's this. The only episodes that had all the obstacles in were ones where someone failed each of them. Also in a couple shots that show the contestant completing brain matter then immediately attempting faceplant, you can see them jump off down to the throat erosion (that was then cut out). So you have to kind of remember that if the show portrayed them failing throat erosion, they'd actually already completed mother tongue and brain matter. It's a shame they edited that way but that's how they "varied the course", rather than actually just varying the course. Also proof, in episode 5 where falling on the energy coils was shown as getting you 20 points, after one contestant falls and 20 is shown on screen, the Japanese announcer says "However, he did manage to get 50 points". The 50 points being The Jawbreaker, Mother Tongue, Brain Matter, Throat Erosion and Faceplant clears. I hope for Season 2 they go for a clearer edit that shows the competitor clearing each obstacle (even if it's in digest form).

From NJPW to SASUKE, I can safely say Japanese commentary is significantly better/more hype than English commentary! It's all in the dialect, presentation and mood they're able to convey. Basically, in some cases, they're akin to the US wresting announcers for WWE (back in the day and somewhat now) and (I haven't seen it yet) Lucha Underground. They can convey the fun, intensity and drama, compared to most sports announcers being regular reactionary.

Just for giggles I checked the casting site and they took down the USA page. It's still listed as Season 2 (with the other countries from Season 2) but the USA portion is down. Curious when they will post that information given it's been over a month.

So... I noticed the page was taken down.. then now it's up.. check out the dates!! I put a question mark because it still lists the countries of Season 2.. unless that's a type.. so I'm confused. Reread the countries.. Interesting..

Reread the countries.. Interesting.. So based on this: Brazil, Germany, S. Korea & Mexico are S1 repeats France & Italy are S2 repeats UK and Australia are newcomers. Looks like Japan, India, China, Spain weren't asked back (yet) Also 18x6 = 108 And 12x9 = 108? Wondering if they're going to change the team size and keep 108 or still do teams of 18.

For convenience, I've cleaned up the first post to include some useful information like status, countries, links to casting and social media, and the results discussion thread.

Something tells me that they are in the middle of changing things and didn't clear up all the pages. It just seems odd which countries are still in there.. unless because people REALLY liked the announcers of Brazil and Germany (which I did) and of course South Korea (which apparently everyone did) then it really does make it bigger.
I like the analysis of having less per country to have it still the same. That's a really good question that I didn't think of. We'll see. The other pages are still set for season 2 so we'll see when that changes.

Should this just go into the main thread? Anyway, good finds. If it's July, then that means Grandpa Ninja has almost two months to apply! Curious on the team sizes. Maintaining 108 would be consistent for competitor coverage, competition length, and number of episodes, but may put new countries at a slight disadvantage if other countries have any veterans. But, by now, any potential rookies going into the show have already stepped up their training specifically for the show. We'll see!

Good question on the main thread. That has both Season 1 and part of 2. I'll flag it to see if the mods want to move it.

Per request, moved the posts. I agree that it better functions as the catch all series thread.

Per request, moved the posts. I agree that it better functions as the catch all series thread. Thanks very much! As the seasons' progress we can always create their own discussion threads. As of now only Season 1 has aired. Season 2 has taped and Season 3 is about to be announced. I'm curious if that page from the official site is complete.. it doesn't look like it so it's weird to see some pages of Season 2 up and not Season 3 given it's not that far from now. Also.. not a word from the social media pages.
