I actually didn't like Crews as a host, so glad when they replaced him with Barber.

Since season four now has an official subtitle, I thought I would go and review the first three seasons to see what I truly think of each one - without the rose-colored glasses! While this still can't be completely helped, I think I can more safely and objective(ish)ly say that season one is my favorite all-around.
Season three was a step-up from the first two in obstacle variation (although I still think they should change elements/speeds of obstacles as they occasionally did in season one), but I feel season one felt more impressive. Only the first series brings the three volume measurements into the equation for me. Season one had width (split-paths) and height (taller obstacles throughout), but recently the course feels to lack that a bit. Though the last two seasons have had the split-paths for Level One, it doesn't give the same effect that the bonus and regular paths did for me. Also, it would be cool to have a combo like Mother Tongue/Brain Matter/Throat Erosion again, where the obstacles can be mixed and matched (even if they weren't actually) for different episodes.
I also don't think season one's commentary has been topped - it was fun and still had class. Season two had dull commentary and season three looked too childish with all of the American (and other country) props used every week.
The new format made it so points were not cumulative, right? If I'm not confusing this with something else, that seemed a really dumb mistake and failed to really reward overall effort. Eight hosting teams was too many and it was hard to get to know any of them. I think two representatives are better than one as each country has more chances to get excited, and I think this is a very important factor. And it seemed absolutely stupid to me that they only used the renovated Final Level for the last episode.
I really hope the new season comes a bit more in the form of season one!

I'm curious about that too. I have to assume that's a typo, since Wikipedia has no knowledge of the fourth season, and the last two seasons were released late in the year, not early like it is now.
