Alan Connealy was the beast first, and then James took his nickname. Now it's used for both of them, or something.

Wow! I finally got airtime! Looks like my plan worked, mua ha ha.
I thought the episode had a really good pace. I liked that they changed up their template of, "show the step fails, then second obstacle fails, third, fourth, etc". Competitor profiles didn't last too long either.
The Kacy saturation was too much for me. The tipping point was during Arnolds profile. But her run has done a lot for the sport, so I understand it.

The hourglass drop: Trolling competitors since 2015 but seriously that is one messed up obstacle, I mean surely the rest of the regions can't have a really unfair obstacle too by the way, they do, if not worse

Akbar touted there were many new obstacles, well, it becomes less exciting if it looks like half of them are going to have a flaw. Don't know why the Spin Cycle is that far away from the next obstacle and the Hourglass Drop. People lost their minds because of the SSL's DQ rule, but at least that was a safety measure. More people got DQ'd on it than properly failed. If SSL is a design flaw, Hourglass Drop was a flaw in every way. Also, I get grabbing supports = fails as well...but try to prevent those, too, and not make it easier to grab than the board itself.

And what baron said, yeah. I'm happy that like The 3rd or 4th runner already got to the 5th obstacle

When Kacy and Brent came on during Arnold's profile I broke down laughing and couldn't stop. Totally ruined the heartfelt moment. I was pretty surprised I wasn't shown this season, especially since I was contacted afterwards to provide them with additional photos and video footage, and signed release documents for everything. I'm guessing they initially intended for my run to be aired, then ran into time constraints and I was put on the cutting block. Most of the profiles were of good length (except for the eskimo ninja which had the longest leadup and profile I've ever seen, but that's ok because his story was cool). Glad Brian was finally shown

Sorry you didn't make it to air, Yen. I do hope, though, that we eventually get to see your run! (i.e. someone uploads it ) For some reason I was expecting Brian's injury to be more gruesome. Gutsy performance out of you, Brian, but I think we've come to expect nothing less! Hope the injury is healing well and super hope we see you again next year. Speaking of Brians, was Brian Orosco there? I know he's on a cold streak but I figured he'd at least give it another go. Lastly, I thought the profiles were pretty good. Compared to last year, I think they did a better job overall in selecting who to show. I was very surprised David Campbell didn't get a profile, but I'm at least glad they showed some people without giving them a full profile. Also, KACY COUNT: 8

I like Kacy. It's hard not to. And I can't deny she's an incredible athlete. But it seems a little unfair the promotion she's getting compared to other contestants.

Then again Levi did the same thing pretty much.

Then again Levi did the same thing pretty much. Brian was also on quite the cold streak, so I'm sure that played into it a bit. It's a shame, but if you look at his recent performances, he may have just felt that the mojo of the competition was gone for him.

The competition itself has also changed drastically from what it once was. Some notable competitors have retired simply because they're disappointed with the new selection/production/direction of ANW. Ultimask8er was one of the first.
Just food for thought.
I also wouldn't call ANW a sport.

I've largely defended ANW over Sasuke, since neither is perfect. I'd take Hourglass Drop (which requires precision with a trampoline) over the swimming horsepucky that has dominated Sasuke as of late.
That said, I really wish we saw more runs. Why they don't hurriedly edit together another hour or two and throw it online or on esquire is beyond me. Especially after watching Ninja Warrior UK, which tries some editing techniques that allows them to burn through way more contestants.
I want to see people fail a healthy amount of all the obstacles, because it impresses just how difficult even the "easy" obstacles are.

Question it appears that many people used their hands on the balance bridge and were allowed to pass without getting dq are they less strict about that this year?

Question it appears that many people used their hands on the balance bridge and were allowed to pass without getting dq are they less strict about that this year? Although even last year the rule was platform was fine just not the obstacle itself, that might be the reasoning of why people "weren't getting DQ'd", they showed Thadeus Robeck getting DQ'd in a fast forward with hand contact on the bridge. If you dive and put your hands on the platform (including hanging off the side of it without touching the bottom of the mat and pulling yourself up) that's perfectly legal as long as you don't touch any part of the obstacle itself illegally
