I've been watching a lot of Sasuke and getting back into it heavily, and I've been watching Kazuma's runs pretty frequently lately. That being said, I wanna know, what do you guys think of him in general?
I'll be honest, when I first watched his performances, I thought he was way too cocky and I didn't really like him. I do like him more now for his loyalty to Sasuke, I feel like he could even be called more loyal to Sasuke than Katsumi Yamada.
What are your opinions on Kazuma?

Asa has grown on me. I like the fact he's more energetic and isn't afraid to speak on it. I was first introduced to him in USA vs Japan and I didn't really see him as anything special until I saw RISING for the first time. He's well liked from me and he is my 11th favorite competitor. Yeah I know... 11. XD

lol 11? May I ask your top 10 then? 10. Hitoshi Kanno 9. Naoki Iketani 8. Ryo Matachi 7. Lee En Chih 6. Shunsuke Nagasaki 5. Yuuji Urushihara 4. Bunpei Shiratori 3. Makoto Nagano 2. Toshihiro Takeda 1. Shingo Yamamoto. ^^ But still. I think I sold Asa short on liking him more. It's only because I was JUST introduced to him. He's awesome in his own right!

I remember his run in SASUKE 27, and when he cried after clearing Stage 1, I knew he was gonna be a dedicated competitor afterwards.

I love the energy and emotion he brings to the show.

I'm still undecided about his personality, but I do admire his Yamada-like passion and emotion.
I wish that everyone on ANW treated ANW the way that Kazuma treats SASUKE, like it was life or death.

Asa's great Love the trousers with the kanji on, the Sasuke kanji on his back , his shouting to psyche himself up and most of all just the way he goes at it and how much it seems to mean to him. Out of all the newer competitors he's the one I'd most like to see get Kanzenseiha, I think it would be amazing for him, and genuinely do think he'll achieve it soon. Just that damn CCH on the night needs conquering.

I don't see him as Yamada at all. He lacks a certain personality trait (cockiness) to have that. For the record I think Kanno has that so he's my Yamada 2.0. Asa reminds me of Kong than anyone else. Even seeing them side by side in Sasuke ASEAN Open Cup cemented that for me. Been watching him since Sasuke 21 so I have a biased view on him (and anyone else from that tournament and preceding trials). He's the odd guy out and has never been part of the team before. His passion is absolute and quirky emotional demeanor has made him stand out. I like though how he's been progressing, slowly but surely getting better each year. I like how even when he fails he keeps going and training harder. He's atypical in his approach as well and even lumped in the group he still stands out like he's not quite a part of it. Like Kong.

I almost agree with the others in terms of him getting past the crazy cliff hanger. I'm a bit skeptical that he would achieve Kanzenseiha on his first try. That new final stage is pretty ridiculous if you ask me.

That new final stage is pretty ridiculous if you ask me. Yeah, Asa is fast, but not sure if he's fast enough to do that final stage on his first try, even if he practiced just due to pressure.

I don't like him. He cries to much and is way too obnoxious.

Well, I tell you about his personality from Japanese point of view. When Asa was televised for the first time, I too had some skepticism about his passion, dedication to Sasuke. Now no one denies his dedication to Sasuke, his love of Sasuke deeper than virtually anyone among the competitors. His outer shell is hard, hard-edged, but his inside is soft. He's from an island, way out in the country. He's just opposite to a guy like Matachi, Sasuke nerd who grew up in Kawasaki (near Tokyo). It's interesting to see that Asa and Matachi has been developing their friendship lately. He might look like a hoodlum or a street gang, but he's pretty straightforward, no-nonsense, humble guy. And he is also proud of his craft as an landscaper in his real life. He is special in my opinion.

Nice info midori, thanks.
At first look I think people initially would think , as you said, that he would be 'trouble', but once you've watched him a few times you can see (or I think so at least..) that he's a decent, driven guy.

I said Asa is proud of his craft as a landscaper, but I don't quite remember he said that he's proud of it in the show. I just assumed from the footages of his working on trees, his demeanor, and the wear / gear he put on for the competition. The pants and the footwear he wears in Sasuke are for his landscaping work.
As for the similarity of Asa and Kong in terms of personality and character in the show arsenette mentioned, first of all, I rather noticed the character similarity between Kong and Mike Bernardo when I saw two of them together in Asean Open Cup. Even though Kong has much longer track record and he is much more accomplished competitor than Mike, both power player, try to outmuscle but fail at some point for lack of finesse or stamina. Both somehow comic-relief type of competitor, somewhat quirky, yet likable guys.
As for Asa and Kong both not belonging in any Sasuke groups, there are many possible reasons I can think of; age, track record, easiness on eyes, personality / character, city boy vs. country bumpkin. Both Kong and Asa rather aged, Kong has much longer track record than Shinsedai, even longer than some of Sasuke All-stars. Both visually rather coarse, unsophisticated, seemingly lacking finesse. Definitely not city boy type (even though Kong is not really a country bumpkin). By the way, I like both Asa and Kong.
