It's a shame about Inui and the Backstream. There's never been a more out of place obstacle in the history of Sasuke. THANK YOU! SASUKE isn't a triathlon nor will it ever! The Backstream won't feel out of place once there are more water obstacles though.

That's ultimately my problem with the backstream. It's just out of place. I think it's slow and stupid and should go. I enjoyed the conveyor belt more because of how insanely frantic it was.

Yeah, watching someone swim through a pool with some jets pushing them back wasn't as entertaining and dramatic as watching someone jump to a chain they could easily slip off of.

I agree with you. The only thing I'd like to add is that I feel there should be some kind of long, draining obstacle right before the wall lift. The walls aren't heavy, and allowing competitors to attack them relatively fresh makes them far too easy. If you tire the competitors out, on the other hand, the walls are a challenge again.

Honestly I feel they should just add something new for Stage 2 ob6 to replace the Backstream and move the Backstream to the end of Stage 2B, that feels like a better fit even if there weren't enough clears for them to use Stage 2B

Just finished watching the entire show. It was a great show for me despite many flaws in the program format and the obstacles. Actually cried a few times. I'm very grateful. If anyone would like translation from Japanese to English, let me know. Can't do it for the entire show, but can do a few segments.

I watched the live stream on Thursday night and it's still unbelievable that I got to witness it. Never was sobbing hard but tears came a couple times. I had a couple of problems with obstacles but all was drastically overshadowed by the results. Ryo was 1 slip away. If he had made it up the spider climb without that slip, he would have got it. For me it was one of the most amazing tournaments. Mind blowing even. Was this goodbye to Nagano? or was this just more inspiration to come back again now that he conquered his first stage demon? P.S After he got DQ'ed then lached off the salmon ladder all the way to the mat and didn't get wet. such a legend!

Unless they express they have from now until 31 if it happens, only Akiyama, Yamada and Bunpei are officially retired. Bunpei may return if his dissatisfaction becomes too much for him (assuming he's healthy, though he probably will stick to his assertion) but Nagano, Takeda and Shingo are still going strong.

Bunpei will never live it down... I'm thinking he may return... The other 3, they'll be back... no question!

I assume it was to take care of Stage 3 being too full because they had to clear both Stage 2 and 2B to make it to stage 3. For everyone wondering, here's what the stage was: first was raising and planting 3 big flags, then the gallon throw, after that push a tackling sled through 3 doors finally crawling under and lifting a huge ball. This is what I know about Stage 2B

Watch someone do a functional fitness workout. yawn

It's always really interesting to gain a better understanding of what is being said and/or displayed during tournaments! Thank you for any contributions which you can make!

It still amazes me that so many non-Japanese people do watch Sasuke so enthusiastically without understanding what they are saying, even shedding tears like you. I suppose that their body language tells the story, the universal language. I don't expect Nagano retiring the competition at the moment. I didn't hear any words even implying to retire from him. As for the Matachi's final-stage attack, it was so close. Not sure the slip at the spider climb made the difference between Kanzenseiha (total win) and the defeat, but he's got a good potential to beat the buzzer for the next few years. He's a good kid.

Yes, I'm willing to do the translation. Please be specific, like the interview of ... after the 3rd stage success. Maybe someone should make a translation thread?

As great as it would be to understand everything verbal while watching SASUKE-related footage, the nonverbal aspects of communication make it feasible for many non-Japanese-speaking viewers to have a general sense of what's being conveyed. I even wrote an essay on a particular SASUKE topic in one of my college classes last year in order to analyze this concept! Also, one moment that I personally am interested in having a translation for is Shiratori's post-run interview (specifically, if he mentioned anything about him having any future involvement with SASUKE, as a competitor or in any other respect for that matter). I'm sure many of us are very curious if/when we'll hear anything about him again!

I agree. Ryo deserves a win! Though I want Shingo to come outta nowhere one day...

Ryo does not deserve to win. I respect him as a fan of the show but I'd rather see Yuuji win again before him.

I'm all in favor of having anyone who demonstrates respect and dedication to the show beating the whole course. Saying that a guy who (like Yuuji and many others) has spent many years of his life just trying to have a chance to compete on SASUKE does not deserve to win is a bold statement, and definitely does not reflect the good nature that the competition is all about.
