Although that was the first time ever in which Takeda was digested in Stage 1, and that they've only done it a few times before with Yamamoto, I'm not really too shocked. There were a lot of digests for top competitors, after all.

Hey I'm happy Takeda and Shingo got passed stage 1 again! Takeda WILL pass the SSL next time and Shingo WILL pass the backstream... I believe in their skills. As long as Shingo keeps his mouth shut on the Backstream.

Oh, I just thought of this... I know Shingo got digested in the First Stage, but the most important question about his run hasn't been answered in any spoilers I've read (and I'm still at work and can't watch it yet): did we see if he still had his hat on at end of it, when he cleared?

I think his hat was on. I didn't see his hair til later in stage 2

LOL - Hioki, why are you praying? You know what happened... At least that's good advertising for the quality of the TVs at your job...

A few things. - Before people go tripping balls about Ryo and his trading cards, those are very old (it demonstrates how long he's been watching the show). They are not traditional baseball card type cards. They are menko cards from 2001-2003 back when Kinniku Banzuke was a thing.
- Encyclopedia Brown and the Case of the Missing Terukazu Ishikawa.
- Kazuma Asa at 7-11.
"I'm sorry sir, but we're out of nikuman." *Cries* - Kazuma Asa at the airport.
"I'm sorry sir, but your flight has been delayed." *Cries* - Kazuma Asa at a government office.
"I'm sorry sir, but your application was filled out wrong and you can't get married." "Eh, these things happen."

Thanks Ube! I was going "wait there's TRADING CARDS?".. I'm still surprised they existed at all but the fact that they were pre-2002 (Kinniku Banzuke) makes sense since that show was HUGE..
I'm still blogging on part 1 so I haven't gotten to the part where Ishikawa is missing though the fact that his face is not even ringing a bell (from last night.. I know who he is).. he must have been straight deleted?
*Cackles* The Asa parts. I swear you need another one of your famous blogs just on him. I'm still going with the Bzzzzzpt for Kanno with his Guns. Especially after he kissed them when he passed the first stage. We need another meeting with departing Yamada crying and Asa crying accepting the mantle of the emotional basketcase.

I give NBC credit for one thing, "The Speed Demon" is a better nickname than "The Crying Landscaper" lol

XD Since when in tartarus has Shingo been known as the Godfather?! Anyways back on track I'm told Shingo's alright now and will train for the backstream in coming months. I hope for the best.

Does anyone for any second think that maybe the Japanese picked their own nicknames for NBC ANW Finals?

No not really. Well maybe Yuuji since it makes sense and maybe Kanno but the rest I was clueless. But moving on. *grabs the hammer* WHO WANTS THE BACKSTREAM GONE?! (sorry after 2 near drownings it's time for it TO GO!)

I kinda wanna know how Shingo reacted to his nickname... but let's pull back to SASUKE 30 and not USA vs Japan from LAST year.

I rewatched Kong's run, and exactly what I thought happened did: he hit the left rung and split the bar, and went up vertically because muscle memory took over and the fact that the rung popped back out as opposed to retracting once hit. It should have happened like with Takeda where the rung retracted. The whole point of the obstacle is that you can't go straight up. One can argue the static rungs should be retractable like the others to prevent that from happening, but Kong directly did what you weren't supposed to do. Just based on that, he was DQ'd rightfully.
Nagano's was on the opposite side, where he hit the rung and it retracted like it should have. Also, note how the rungs are shaped. There's no way to recover the bar safely while still trying to do the obstacle. Kong was able to kip back up because the distance of the rungs on the side he failed on is much smaller than the side Nagano failed on. This was the exact fail that happened to Toshiharu Takami in 29. No one cared about it and not only that, were gushing over it in the reaction threads that tournament.

(sorry after 2 near drownings it's time for it TO GO!) I want it gone at this point. Not because of the near drownings, mind you. In 28, they had the jets too low, and the obstacle didn't phase anyone. In 29, the jets were too high, and no one passed until they turned the jets down, and even then quite a few failed. In this one, the jets were just right...and left strong competitors like Yuuji totally exhausted, to the point of not even being able to lift the first wall. And let's not forget Hioki's total collapse at the end of stage 2, just trying to recover his breath and feel good getting up. No matter how they do the obstacle, it screws someone over for more reason than "lack of skill" or "stupid mistake". That is why I want it gone.
