Wow, I never knew that... How did I miss that detail? I don't even know who I am anymore...

Starting in ANW 4 if you had the fastest time in the qualifying you get $2500 and if you get the fastest in the city finals you get $5000. Not sure if that's still in effect though. Yes, as of ANW6 it is still in effect. No WONDER Flip wanted the highest time. There WAS a reward in play... I doubt it's worth it since he got disqualified early...

They don't mention anything about the reward on the actual show. I think they just do it to motivate the competitors.

Yes, as of ANW6 it is still in effect. I can confirm this as well. Qualifying has a $2500 prize for fastest time and city finals has a $5000 prize are the correct totals as well. Not going to lie, had I made it that far I was going to go for the fastest time in the St Louis finals. They don't mention anything about the reward on the actual show. I think they just do it to motivate the competitors. This. I think they just do it to try to put some bait for good TV out there.

Careless mistakes are bound to follow A countless number of competitors fall trying for the top time, you just never see it because they don't get any air time. Usually one guy will make it through with reckless speed and that helps to relieve the urge to go for top time because is doesn't seem so doable anymore haha! At least that is what happened with me. It is much more important for me to just advance then to take a huge risk for the chance at the top time. More powerful then the money is the ego some of these guys have. I won't name any names.....

Wait... What??? Fastest time in the regionals gets $2500? I haven't been watching. Has this always been like that? Am I going crazy? Starting in ANW 4 if you had the fastest time in the qualifying you get $2500 and if you get the fastest in the city finals you get $5000. Not sure if that's still in effect though. Huh, I was not aware of that. Okay, it seems like Flip and Drew weren't doing it solely for ego, but still. I'm not sure Flip will think that it was quite worth it at this stage.

After this Flip won't be going for the top time. I'm sure he'd rather take his time and make his way to the city finals

Honestly if Flip didn't fail because of the low net, nobody would be complaining about it. It's simply silly and a much biased complaint.

Just let them go OVER the jump hang if they want to!

Keep your body weight on the net..... it's actually easier to go under than having to muscle up and go over. Just more time consuming which they were likely going for. Edit... How come you can't go on the outside part of the net on the jump hang kai? Why isn't that an option? The athletes should be able to choose how they go... No they can't because like Sasuke, ANW can make rules at their discretion.

I think the issue is changing rules on one of the most established obstacles, it was in seasons 3 and all regions in 4 and in all those episodes aired you could go over, it's one thing if it's the Kai which is a different obstacle but there's no reason to bring back the exact same obstacle and change the rules outright

I see it as a safety change. There were a few close calls in the past with people going over the top where they almost got their head stuck during the flip/roll. With people racing for top times I don't think NBC wants to see anyone get careless and accidentally hang themselves. It doesn't make for good TV.

Just saying. It's not a big deal though.

Forcing competitors to hang essentially one foot from the water adds drama, whereas doing the obstacle the sane way is "boring". If they cared about safety only they wouldn't have made such a stupid net.
