I'm guessing by "original" they don't mean "covering 30 seconds of a song using the official instrumental" lol , damn, I liked that idea because the lyrics are so perfect for NW.
But damn, 4 minutes, that's tight, but I guess I can make that work

Original as in you either own it or have permission. This has to do with copyright laws and RIAA being a royal pain will go after anyone even with clips of music. If you use copyrighted music you pretty much guarantee NBC will never play your video. They are not going to take the time to edit that crap out when they can use video of one of the several thousands that will apply again for ANW6. Just sayin' And remember.. the video is to make a name for yourself.. not make an AMV.. big difference between the two.

Damn And I dunno, making a short little video of yourself would make you stand out, then again with 4 minute maximum probably don't have time for that anyways...

It appears the casting site is now live and you can start the application process.

IMO (and strictly IMO) it would be a landmine to even mention Sasuke in your videos. If you must just use Ninja Warrior and move on. It's apparent that there is now an official rift between NBC and TBS.. so any connections should not be made to each of the shows. Good luck ya'll. Last year I mentioned I was a huge Sasuke for, and it's almost entirely what got me accepted. At my post-course interview that is the only thing that they brought up aside from my outfit. Though I would be catious... even I have been debating on whether or not to do the same thing this time. It's a bit confusing.

With every year that passes the application list grows longer. Thanks jams for reposting what grandpaninja posted. Those are great tips. I saw a lot of videos with all of those problems they listed.

Thanks to grandpaninja for posting the official video application rules/requirements, and to jams for sharing them on here! Though I would be catious... even I have been debating on whether or not to do the same thing this time. It's a bit confusing. Yeah, I figured going into too much more detail than saying "I've been a fan of Ninja Warrior for years" would hurt me more than help me out. If/when I do my video application for ANW6, I'll probably be pretty general in regards to this by just mentioning that I've been fascinated by obstacle course-based game shows since I was a young child, along with my general thoughts about ANW (motivation, philosophy, etc.) using similar ideas from what I've seen on SASUKE (without ever mentioning the word "SASUKE").

I'm so nervous this time around. I'm still not sure how I was one of 400/10,000 to be selected last year. I just feel like my luck is going to run out this time around.

I think your odds are better being a repeat applicant. Hope everyone who applies from here gets an invite. By the way, they have updated the deadline date on the website to be February 14, 2014 now. This makes sense if they are planning to do Venice in the March 15 time frame. Even if you don't have your video done yet I would at least start your application. It is a very extensive application, but allows you to save your progress as you go and submit at a later day. You may also want to save your application answers in a text file in case something goes wrong with your application. It will speed things up if you have to start over, and can be kept for future applications if they use the same type of questions.

But great, now I have less time to think of entry video ideas Just say 'I will be the next American Ninja Warrior' 500 times and you're guaranteed in

It's kind of contradictory in that way.

"CASTING HELPFUL HINTs*** We receive a lot of videos from Freerunners/ Parkour Athletes/ Fitness Trainers and Coaches... if you have a job in another area that will help stand out, please point this out in your video."
haha. Guess doing parkour doesn't make you special anymore.

Based on what I saw in ANW5, you'll probably have a great shot at getting cast if you imitate Noah Kaufman.
The ANW producers seem to love showboating, grandstanding, trash talking, chest-thumping, and self-promoting contestants.
Don't display humility or good sportsmanship. Just say that you're the best and everyone else sucks.
Go out of your way to be the biggest loud-mouthed jerk in your video, and the producers will eat it up.

In my last vid I had a weird mixture of humility and show-boatyness.
