Lolz. Was this part of the thing somewhere? Yep, that was in the email I got, so instead of showing off my parkour skills, I'm hyping my beard and hat. Have to find some older pics from when I still had an über beard, though.

"CASTING HELPFUL HINTs*** We receive a lot of videos from Freerunners/ Parkour Athletes/ Fitness Trainers and Coaches... if you have a job in another area that will help stand out, please point this out in your video." haha. Guess doing parkour doesn't make you special anymore. Lolz. Was this part of the thing somewhere? I forget where exactly, it was some generic email I got IIRC.

Planning on having my video wrapped up by the end of next week! This year I'll actual wear tennis shoes on the course.
The Mid-West is coming!

If the run date of your region is before your 21st birthday but the other regions are after your birthday, would you still be allowed to compete in your own region?

Nice going, G4 Comcast. Didn't specify when you had to be 21.
(Although if I had to guess, it seems to imply when you submit the application you need to be 21.)

I remember back in ANW oti didn't turn 21 until after the submission process but was before the course was actually ran and he talked to the staff and they told him it was okay to enter, so I assume you can enter as long as you're 21 by the time of the actual competition, don't quote me on this, try to get in touch with production to see if they can answer your question. Also I just realized they said no text, would they mind a custom made intro graphic? something like this just not that clip

To my knowledge, you must be 21 by the time you run the course. If you're not gonna be 21 in time and you can't make it to another region, I'm afraid you're out of luck

When did they announce the locations last year?

Scrapping the idea of the graphic but how much would they care if I use a couple small seconds of an episode that aren't of me (but related to something I'm saying), along with a screencap of one (that's more related to me)? I wouldn't be disqualified for suspected piracy would I? lol
EDIT: BTW, I wish they gave us 5 minutes instead of 4...

IMO if you can't present yourself in a minute.. then you are doing it wrong. No one in casting wants a 5 minute AMV. It's boring.

It's not an AMV, Problem is I have more footage than I really have time for considering my testing footage takes up most of the time

I'd suggest use 1-2 minutes of talking and introducing yourself and 2-3 minutes of training footage.
Honestly, introducing yourself is 1,000x more important than your training footage. The reality is, this is TV. I was one of 400 people to get chosen out of 10,000+ applicants. Do you think I was in the top 400 most physically fit people who applied? Helllllll no. In fact, most of the footage I used was extremely old and outdated. You're going to be chosen based off of your story, based off of your personality, based off of your career, etc. Casting groups people into categories, and only X amount of people from each category are going to get chosen.
For example, they will only accept "x amount" of "Middle aged man who has built a replica course". They get so many of those, they have to limit it. I'm assuming "super fan/nerd/long time fan of the show" is another category, and they'll select "x amount" of people from that category as well. When they interview you after the course, you can generally find out why you were chosen. Last year, the first thing they talked about in my interview was the fact that I have been a fan of the show for so long. They get so many applicants, so really they probably just note your most standout feature and move onto the next applicant. "Okay, so now that we put everyone into categories let's limit them. Oh - we got 30 'superfans' in the Denver region... let's only allow 10 of those to pass, which ones did we like best?"

I wouldn't be disqualified for suspected piracy would I? lol If you were planning to show people failing an obstacle you tested (i.e. Rumbling Dice), and then talk about what they did wrong or show yourself doing it right... don't. They don't care, and probably won't finish watching the rest of your video. It sounds like you're making it more complicated than it has to be. Arsenette and Bada are dead on. Their number one criteria is getting to know as much about you as possible. If you search youtube for "American Ninja Warrior 6" or "ANW6" you'll see a lot of casting videos already posted that you can take pointers from. Just keep it simple, and use your being a tester and super fan along with anything else about you or your family that's interesting. If you have a ton of footage then just edit together the best 4 minutes and talk over it. If you can't talk about yourself the whole 4 minutes then fill the rest with music.

Good post, but actually don't talk over training footage. It seems to be a new thing they added this year, though I've already seen multiple submissions still do it... so I don't know. But in the application it does say "please do not talk over training footage". Guessing it has something to do with the editing process and is less of a headache for them in the long run. But ultimately, it is all your decision Rider. It's your video, don't let other people influence you too much. Make it as "you" as possible. I am just trying to give the best advice I can as someone who has been selected for the show twice. Last year I went against the grain a bit with my video and was still selected, so do whatever you want. Weigh our suggestions with what you want to do. If you do that and don't get picked, at least you'll only have yourself to blame instead of using other people as targets. I think you have a fair shot though, just be happy you're not in the most competitive west coast region. The midwest used to be the easiest to get into, but it includes Denver where SO many regulars are from.

I've only seen what grandpaninja shared which mentions not talking over music. I didn't know they don't want you talking over training footage too. If that's true it's weird that almost everyone is still doing it.

It won't get you disqualified or anything, but it's probably good to earn brownie points.
