It has been reported on Facebook that a few ANW5 contestants have been contacted by casting regarding ANW6. They are saying they were told www.anwtryouts.com will be updated by Monday with additional information. Monday is also the USA vs. Japan special where I'm sure they will make a formal announcement.

Is it wrong of me to be quite happy that it is exclusive to NBC now?

Is it wrong of me to be quite happy that it is exclusive to NBC now? No, I'm glad we don't have to pay the extra to subscribe to Esquire network lol . But great, now I have less time to think of entry video ideas

But great, now I have less time to think of entry video ideas Show them how big of a fan you are by naming every competitor within your 8 minute video XD. Or maybe just tell them they can let you run the course 100 times for 100 victories... Or more seriously stick with the fan thing, use the tapes you have of you on the salmon ladder last year. And of course your signature playground + bedroom videos. You'll get in. Take credit for the Mike Bernardo flop spot too XD

Oh I was definitely going to use my tester footage, I'm thinking I need to go back to Alternate Routes to get some footage as well. And I was going to point out I made an impact because that's a good idea lol .
Do they typically care if you use footage of other people on the course?

They seem to be big on stories of dedication or overcoming something. I would focus on your training/testing footage unless the footage of others is somehow related to your story. The more talking you do to help them get to know you the better too. Don't just talk for 30 seconds and have 5 minutes of music.

I wonder if presenting my extreme dedication to SASUKE more-so than ANW would be good or bad for me to go over in an entry video for ANW6. After all, it shows my knowledge/understanding of the program, but at the same time the two shows are not exactly in the same window of continuity. For example, imagine if I (by some miracle) cleared Stage 3 and they interviewed me about what it feels like to be the first American to ever clear the Third Stage; telling them something along the lines of "On ANW yes, but overall, that distinction goes to Kane Kosugi" would confuse a ton of people and/or not fly well with NBC's production crew (even after them likely editing it out). BTW, do they have an exact deadline established yet for ANW6 entries? After all, I have more important/academic matters to attend to first (I might not even be able to submit an application for it this year if I have scheduling conflicts). I'm also curious which cities preliminaries will be held at this year.

I'm also curious which cities preliminaries will be held at this year. So far people are just getting notified that applications are opening next week. I assume that is so they can get a jump on their entry tapes. I haven't seen anyone post about deadlines, cities, or dates. I'm sure that will all come in due time and be posted on the casting site first, then filter to facebook and twitter. Regarding your Sasuke comments, I doubt any of the people reviewing the tapes will know what you're talking about lol. If it were me I would assume that the people watching these tapes don't know anything beyond ANW4. It might confuse them and turn them off to mention Sasuke, but you can try it or just mention you're a NW super fan and not go into too much detail. In general if it were me I would just make sure you hit on the key points from the email... We all know they love their background fluff pieces, and I'm sure that will be their main criteria. Just try to stand out since they are going to be watching thousands of videos. Maybe a unique athletic skill like Brian Arnold had with his one finger pull up. If nothing else you can always put on a costume.

Question... How anal are they about music? Would I be able to cover a small bit (about 28-29 seconds worth) of what's probably an obscure song without worrying about being disqualified?

IMO (and strictly IMO) it would be a landmine to even mention Sasuke in your videos. If you must just use Ninja Warrior and move on. It's apparent that there is now an official rift between NBC and TBS.. so any connections should not be made to each of the shows. Good luck ya'll.

I was going to mention being a fan since before ANW existed, but I'm not going to act like 28 or 29 exist in my video.

I don't think anyone knows at the moment. Since it's NBC they may not care. I'm sure if it's an issue they will mention it on the application page and provide sample music like they did in the past with G4.

They hate lawsuits so the less music the better. In fact if you can avoid using music at all they will prefer it.

I wasn't planning on using much music, literally just 28 seconds in the whole vid, of a song that they probably won't even know anyways and not even using the actual audio from the song but the only part (besides the lyrics) are just going to be from the instrumental. Would they care about that much?

I'd not just show them how dedicated you are, I'd tell them as well. Definitely go with the bit about being a fan before ANW but no need to get specific. You've been waiting for 5+ years yadayada. Talk about how you study the obstacles. You know what to do, what am I doing here.... Be yourself.

Oh yeah I was definitely going to go with that angle, When I tested in Baltimore everyone was surprised at how much I knew about the course and stuff, if I'm already impressing the staff with how into this I am, I might as well continue with that

The reason I said they may not care is because they're more professional with their editing than the G4 days lol. From what I remember when they do the fluff pieces they strip the audio and then have Matt Iseman talk over your highlights telling your story. Being a major network I assume they also have blanket licenses with BMI and ASCAP that would cover most any song if they for some reason did want to use your audio. I agree though, the less music the better, and never talk over background music. They want as much info about you as possible so trying to pack your videos full of interesting info about yourself and why you deserve to be selected. [edit] Relating to the music discussion, Matt Laessig just posted this in the facebook group... Kind of confirms they want you to keep it short and packed full of info. I also saw someone post saying they were told Venice and Vegas are the only 2 confirmed locations so far. They said Venice is possibly March 15 and Vegas in June, but of course those dates are not final yet. No mention of other cities or possible dates yet. I'm sure we'll hear more Monday, but I know how everyone likes to find stuff out early.
