I agree with 222 and arsenette 99.9% (sorry I'm sure I disagree with a placement of a comma or something).
Toonami can't be what it used to be, that's what you have to understand. Simply showing old shows for a giant nostalgiafest won't work. Getting new shows won't grant instant success either. As many have said before me, anime is not foreign like it used to be. Toonami was THE place to get anime. I couldn't find that stuff online anywhere. Now I can access whatever I want at the drop of a hat. I've watched and read HUNDREDS of series for free, because it's so easy to access them. It wasn't always like that, not when Toonami was around.
That being said, anime is not only dying in America, but Japan as well. Plus they need money and at the moment they do not have that. If you want more stuff then you'll have to support them. Personally I already watched adult swims every saturday night. I watch tv when I go to bed, and that time slot happens to be around when I hit the hay, so I just pop it on. Toonami is just a bigger incentive for me. Sure it's more of a rebranding of the current block, but it could evolve into so much more given the time.

Meh. Not the first time everyone's disagreed with me. Skimming through, there are some points I agree with here and some I don't. I feel my original point was sort of missed, though. This isn't much more than a bastardization of Toonami. [as] is airing, what looks like to me, mostly, their same line-up of generic, boring anime with a few new things mixed in. It'd just be nice if every company in the world these days would stop reviving everything we all knew and loved as children in pathetic attempts to revive them and make tons of cash along the way. It's a tad annoying.
But HEY! At least that new Thundercats show wasn't made a few years ago. THAT would've been bad.

Hey I'm usually in the minority LOL Though I know there's a lot of complaining on the net about the lineup. Given their budget though I'm surprised they got what they got. I hope they can grow from that as I love anime. Given they in the past were able to get more recent stuff and better stuff here's hoping that they can grow out of here and get the stuff people are clamoring for. If it introduces a new generation to this style of animation then I'm totally for it We all know this is not meant for us who own half of the list already on DVD

It's also worth mentioning that internet piracy has been a factor for anime sales, especially in the US since "fan" subs of a show can appear on the internet within hours of it airing on Japan. Hey don't go blaming the people who love what they do and are making anime available to people who normally wouldn't be able to see them...

The thing is, your point is hard to argue because we simply have different opinions on the matter. I like this Toonami lineup, you don't. Let's agree to disagree and move on.

It's not even that, if you expected a better lineup then you had really bad expectations. There was no way with a months notice and very little money that they could pull out all the stops. This Toonami will have to slowly grow just like the last one did. You say Toonami was all about a short fat Tom? Well what about Moltar? Yeah, he came first. It took old Toonami awhile before it got great shows and finally grew into its own. It'll be the same this time around. You'll have to wait and hope for good ratings if you want this one to also reach its prime.

They didn't change Moltar a hundred times in an attempt to reinvent the wheel and make him cooler. I don't think you completely understand my stance on this, and I'm not up for your arguing/condescending method of "educating" me in things right now. Let's agree to disagree and move on. Thank you. Peace between us, good sir.

Sorry, what exactly did you want for this reboot then? A nostalgiafest? A bunch of new shows? We've already explained why neither of those were viable options, and it comes down to money. They can reach that point eventually if/when they get more. They were already extremely lucky to get the 2 new shows in this lineup.

You know... I have one thing to say about the first show in the block... I think Bleach makes even less sense than when I dropped it... (↓Not a spoiler↓) To be honest the only reason I started watching it again on toonami is because last week there was mention of big boobs and catgirls... got my attention... *innocently whistles*

It's a filler arc....
Then again, the filler arcs are better than even the normal material.

Sorry to bump but question... do we know what they're going to show when Samurai 7 and Cashern Sins end?

Tenchi Muyo GXP is replacing Cashern. Don't know about Samurai 7 though.

At least it's better than Bleach. They're both bad... which is why we don't need both of them airing back to back... Early Naruto is fine for a shounen battle manga. Though I don't really see how it fits in Toonami's lineup... but I guess it's not anymore kiddy than Thunder Cats.

They were saying something about airing it uncut, but really it still doesn't fit...

Toonami started out really good...had the new shows, Deadman and Casshern, had the old school, GitS and Bebop. They brought in E7 and S7, cool. Then you add Sym-bionic and Thundercats...shows that don't fit in with the others. Bring back Inuyasha(always been kinda meh for me, but still not hatin), but at the cost of GitS. Then you add Tenchi Muyo...I watched 1 episode, and I couldn't stand it. I mean, Naruto(at least in it's dub form), isn't for people who are still watching TV at midnight. It doesn't really fit.
Also, kinda funny how they redid the schedule...putting the shows that fit(the 7s), in between the shows that don't fit(the two CN-made shows).
