What I mean is, has anyone else ever gotten the impression that the guy has sorta a bad attitude? I fully admit I don't know him personally, of course, but every time it cuts to him after someone falls, he seems to just look so bored. He doesn't seem to care at all about other contestants, and seems to only barely care about his fellow allstars. Lots of times the camera will cut to him and he won't be clapping at all when all the other people around him are, and only after he notices the camera on him does he begin half-assedly clapping.
I guess I just always got the impression that he really doesn't care that much about it, which in a way doesn't make sense because I know he built replicas of obstacles in his back yard, but I don't know.
Just was wondering if anyone else ever noticed this about him or got the same impression.

I haven't ever noticed that. I think he does care (unless it's Hiromitchi Sato, and then none of the All-Stars care). Keep in mind, Akiyama has very poor vision. It may be that he simply can't see what's going on, and that's why he doesn't seem to react.

Akiyama barely can see what is going on.. especially if it's reaaally far away from him and he's away from the monitors.

I feel like akiyama is sitting there, and he doesn't quite know what to think until someone taps him on the shoulder and whispers into his ear. Then he gets that "OH, so that's what happened" moment.
I don't have the same disease as akiyama or anything, but I've spent a day without my contacts in. It's like you're hardly even awake. You can't see anything and you're pretty much disconnected to everything that's not right next to you. It's very tiring (Mentally and physically) when you're constantly straining to see what's in front of you.

Reason he "claps" for the all stars is because he usually knows if they are up.

Why do the all stars dislike Sato?

I've no idea. Maybe cause he got high numbers before he completed stage 1

Have you ever seen his run in SASUKE 4? Aside from when he finished the 2nd Stage, he wasn't exactly bursting with expression throughout.
Not everyone reacts overtly. Even if he could see everything clearly, it would be a bit much to assume that because he didn't throw his hands or shout out every time someone fell into the water he doesn't care about the proceedings in front of him. Other athletes who behave similarly sometimes get a reputation for not caring.
And please, don't throw "the Japanese are stoic" into the mix because it's a tired stereotype. If anything else, SASUKE tends to smash that idea.

Bada's right about what it's like having bad vision. I'm severely nearsighted. Even with my glasses my vision does not correct to 20/20. Sometimes it's hard for me to see what's going on at, for example, a martial arts tournament, even when I'm wearing my glasses. I've grappled in the last 3 tournaments, and I take my glasses off for that. That isn't a problem when I'm actually grappling, but when I'm waiting for my turn, and I'm trying to watch the other competitors, sometimes I can't see what's going on, even though I'm close to the action. JP, you're right about Akiyama being more quiet. Have you ever read the "Power of Sasuke" site? The original sight was taken down, but the information is on this site. www.webjam.com/sasukefans/power_of_sasukeCarol, the lady who did this, mentioned that Akiyama is very shy. SRW, you asked why people don't like Sato. Carol told us about that, too. She and her kids went to Sasuke 18 & 19. Remember Lance Tarvend? They had several of his students cheering for him. 5 kids wore shirts that spelled out LANCE. Carol's daughter was letter "E." Sato's first tournament was Sasuke 18. Carol's son, then almost 8, and her daughter, then 5, were fans of Sato's TV show. When they saw him at Sasuke, they were excited. They weren't being obnoxious or anything like that, they just waved and said hello. He ignored them. Several other kids saw Sato, too. Again, they weren't screaming or jumping on him or anything like that. They just waved and said hello. He ignored them. Finally, he glanced at them and gave a half-hearted wave...and then ignored them again. He was acting like a jerk the whole time.

That's too bad I enjoy watching Sato on Sasuke and he actually seemed quite nice and exuberant on camera. Although he might have felt pressured and anxious at Sasuke, that doesn't give him an excuse to ignore his duties as a celebrity and role model.

I just don't understand how you're just now figuring that out. We've known this about Sato for like 2 years, and Ube and Arsenette are very vocal about it on their blogs.

Well of course I've heard people complain about him, but I actually hadn't heard of a specific example until now.

I have never noticed this behavior from any of the competitors, I just like to see the obstacles and to be honest, I hate seeing competitors clear ANY of the stages.

Yeah I know most obstacles by heart, and what Sasuke tournament they appear, but I really can't remember the names of many contestants. Especially the newer contestants...

Sato has been in I believe every Tournament Since Sasuke 18. He also gets more coverage than most people and is usually in the 90's. Now stop getting riled up.
