If Ryoga knew he was going to be on the show.... then obviously ONE of them knew and gave concent, otherwise, how would he have known?
If it was just a random pull from the net, they would'nt know who he was to contact him.

Yeah, not ok. Nobody but apparently Ryoga and certainly not me gave consent for this. I'll be looking into what legal action can be taken.

Personally, if I ever appeared on a tv show like World's Dumbest without my consent I'd be pissed. I don't know how in the world they thought getting permission from one person was enough to show a whole group of people. I'm also pissed at Ryoga for not informing David. Ryoga might have assumed that only he would be shown, but that doesn't make it ok. It is David's course on David's property. BOTH sides are guilty- Tru TV for completely neglecting any sort of permission and Ryoga for his irresponsible and desperate attempt to get on tv.

Hope you win a million bucks David Agreed. Not cool to put something on TV and didn't get permission from the original owner and even permission from each person they showed on the video. Not cool. :/

Unfortunately I doubt there's a lot that can be done at this point. That show has been on for years doing very similar things, one guy does something stupid (in this case Ryoga), and he or one of his friend sends it in.

Thanks to the internet, the "fair use" line has become blured, especially shows that make fun of stuff they found on the internet. My question is, was all the footage shown property of Ryoga? If all of it was recorded on his camera, it might hurt your case. My best suggestion is to contact The Smocking Gun and try to sort things out including finding out how they got they footage (I know all signs point to Ryoga, but others could have been involved). From what I found, this is their contact info: www.thesmokinggun.com/aboutI also suggest contacting Ryoga and ask him what's going on.

Good luck. Youtube doesn't care about your complaints unless you're a company with lots of money. Doubt these guys will either.
You're probably better off just dealing with the fact that your video is spreading.

I don't think they got most of it off YouTube, I think it was from a camera recording that was sent in at least whats what it looked like.

Well I don't recognize alot of those clips.. Like all but a couple, so they can't be from youtube.
Also even if clips of his course isn't enough for a case.. David still could sue for unauthorized use of his image couldn't he?

For some reason I've always thought that clips shown on clip shows required permission for the original poster/owner of the clip. I don't think it's right for major companies to use content that they don't have permission for.
I understand that Ryoga gave permission, but it's highly irresponsible of Tru TV to extend that permission to everyone who was shown. Unless it's legal to use any internet content under any circumstances, I think David has a case that he unknowingly and unwillingly appeared on a national tv show that inaccurately portrayed him and others in a negative light.

I don't think G4 gets consent for there Around the Net segment. After 2 weeks, G4 cannot legally rerun any ATN segment on TV without permission.

Hmm.. if G4 hadn't given consent for this either (since they own the use of Ninja Warrior) Ryoga could be in trouble.. was it his idea to submit it?

That is absolute BS that they used your video without asking for permission whatsoever, and did they even give you credit at all? I had a video that I uploaded last year of a lacrosse team fight and it got featured on ESPN, and guess what, not one ounce of credibility went towards me. I wasn't really mad though since I was happy it got on TV and it was only for about 30 seconds too, but this is another story since they were literally talking A LOT of trash about your video and they didn't even ask to use it? Hopefully you get something out of this.

Well not to try to spin this toward support for truTV but considering that show is simply comedians/B-list and lower celebs simply going by a script I doubt every single one of them feels that way about the video.

Arsenette makes a good point. Since David allowed G4 to use his footage, could G4 "own" that footage in some way? G4 could claim that Tru TV used footage from a copyrighted television show (I guess??)

The footage was taken by Ryoga, G4 never owned it.

jfeathe I meant the reference directly to the show "Ninja Warrior" which G4 owns and what the comedians (or washed up actors.. since Leif Garrett was one of them..) were talking about in conjunction to the video.
