Here's my $0.02 about the open tryout vs invite only thing: Basically, I don't care .
Last time everyone who had an invite got to run and pretty much everyone who sent in a video or just an email saying they wanted to come and were at all serious about it got a spot. The only people who missed out were the people who didn't bother to get a reserved slot, so it's pretty much a non-issue.
About moving people up that were hot girls, or in costume: Yeah they did that, but only at the expense of walk-ons. Like I said before, everyone with a reservation still went. So if you're talking about shutting out walk-ons all together then it shouldn't matter that some of the walk ons did get bumped. So again, non-issue, just get a reservation.
About it being a TV show and not strictly trials: Well yeah. It's supposed to be a TV show. That's kinda how they paid for it, by making it a TV show. If it was just a Sasuke trial it would have been a lot smaller and less fun. (think ANC2 box-o-suk, or at MOST the NF4 one stage, Ninja Killer). It IS a TV show primarily, and a trials second. Theoretically, from what I hear talking to G4 people, it sounds like if everything goes really well (good ratings) the idea is to keep making it bigger untill it really IS an American version of Sasuke. Actually Alison told me that ANW1 was the highest rated program ever on G4 and that ANW2 will likely be bigger than the last. And I think it's great! I had almost as much fun at ANW as I did at Sasuke! Even if there was no prize of going to Japan, I'd still go to ANW2 just for the fun of it. And I think it's great that so many fans of Sasuke that will likely never go to Japan can run the American version and get to see themselves on TV and all that!
We sent them a ton of suggestions, even if they follow a few of them it should be way better than last time. And last time was really good.....just needed a few tweaks and better originization. .....and well, let's not talk about the final.
It's kinda like complaining about the sound coming out of your car stereo, and saying that the sound would be so much better on a home stereo. Ok sure, it may be true, but it's a car not a home entertainment system. it's primary function is to drive. The stereo is just added on.
So maybe a strict trials would be better (as a trials) but it's primary purpose is to be a TV show and make money.
blah blah blah blah, it's late and im typing more words than I have to aaaahhhhh! words...
But you know, now that I think about it, I kinda like the American trials better than the Japanese version. I only saw a little, but they were running them in groups ANC2 style which just sucks. I would hate that. ANW style much better.
Honestly just 3 things would make ANW2 almost perfect. 1: shade 2:just slightly better orginization to move people though a little quicker with less hangups (I think this will happen automatically just because they did it once before) 3. sasuke related final.
If they just did those 3 things I'd be like "holy s***, G4 didsomething perfect, grab your snowboard and meet me in hell!"

I disagree that ANW would be a good replacement for Sasuke when Sasuke is canceled. I know for a fact that there are a lot of people that will stop going to ANW simply because it's not a ticket to Japan. Plain and simple. Most people would rather be invited directly to the M9 show but in the absence of that they are willing to go through whatever hoops necessary to get there. If ANW was basically it.. all Sasuke fans will stop going since it serves no purpose.
Sasuke Trials have existed for years before ANC even was a blip in the radar. You yourself have admitted not even seeing all of them. Yes the format changes and how they get picked changes by each tournament but there is no way you can say that it wouldn't be "fun". It's a different type of show with obvious differences in audience. Obviously you know my take that it should be just trials. I find it a hell of a lot more compelling watching real athletes try to survive a grueling trial to get on the best obstacle course on the planet. ANC/ANW would not have existed had it not for the fans of Sasuke. There's no comparison between the shows. While competitors may have had fun because of the excitement of actually being able to qualify for Sasuke the audiences know the difference between the two. Automatically thinking that just because they thought ANW was fine for what is was (a qualification process) and should be one to replace the real show is just asinine. One does not replace the other. One cannot exist without the other. Ask anyone else online (especially those in Facebook with over 50k fans who have been very vocal) if they would chose between ANW and Sasuke and the answer would be clear.

Look at David the name dropper! haha
There are too many long posts now, so mine will be short. Yes there Sasuke is still better than ANW, people like it more, people won't go to ANW if there isn't potential for getting to Sasuke, etc... However, they're still thinking about it with the ANW1 course. It can only get better now! They know how stupid the finals were, they know other mistakes they made, so I personally can't wait to see how much bigger and better it will be.

I disagree that ANW would be a good replacement for Sasuke when Sasuke is canceled. Who said anything about canceling or replacing Sasuke?! Sasuke and Ninja Warrior seem to be growing in popularity. For the last year everyone's been all freaked out and saying they're going to cancel Sasuke and that every tounament is going to be the last one. TBS hasn't said that they're considering cancelling Sasuke so there's no basis for these rumors. Even if Sasuke was cancelled, are you saying you'd want G4 to quit too and not have ANW? That would just make it suck 2x as hard! I know for a fact that there are a lot of people that will stop going to ANW simply because it's not a ticket to Japan. Plain and simple. That's fine, if they don't want to go who needs them? I'd keep going....I'm sure there's be some kind of prize if not an invite to Sasuke. But then who said anything about removing the Sasuke prize? Not me. Most people would rather be invited directly to the M9 show but in the absence of that they are willing to go through whatever hoops necessary to get there. If ANW was basically it.. all Sasuke fans will stop going since it serves no purpose. You're kinda repeating yourself here. I don't think you speak for all Sasuke fans. I'd still go. If they had a full 4 stage Sasuke course in America and called it American Ninja Warrior? HELL YEAH I'D GO!! with or without a trip to Japan. But I never said anything about removing the prize of a Sasuke invite. Obviously you know my take that it should be just trials. I find it a hell of a lot more compelling watching real athletes try to survive a grueling trial to get on the best obstacle course on the planet. That's funny, because when I was making comment about all the retarded jokers that fail the sextuple steps (a jump rope champion? really?) and said it's sad that they get an invite to every Sasuke like it's nothing. Yet real competirs like me and Strat and many others in Japan have to fight tooth and nail any maybe get one shot if we're lucky, you said that they were important to the show and that more people tuned in to see them than tuned in to watch the All Stars. Seems like a double standard. It's ok for Japan to have jokers, but not America? Who's talking about replacing Sasuke? An American version would just be more Sasuke.

Apparently David you missed one huge thread that premises my whole argument: sasukemaniac.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=s25&action=display&thread=2193With Sasuke at the brink of extinction and everyone else discussing the future of Sasuke I automatically assumed you knew. Based on the fact that Sasuke is on it's last legs in Japan it directly impacts ANW. And those joke competitors you abhore so much are more important in Japan that you will ever understand. And finally. There are no joke competitors in Sasuke Trials. 100% agreed.

As for the actual competition. A few things I noticed: upload.g4tv.com/anw2/upload.aspxBtw.. ya'll gonna have to help me on this. Is this.. G4 may postpone or cancel production of American Ninja Warrior for any reason without notice. new? Preparations if Sasuke is canceled this summer? I mean I already knew that this is not a trials or competition.. and they reserve the right to not send the person who wins it but I do think that last line is.. new?

That thread is still all just speculation. The only factual information is that Sasuke had a low rating...but it's seems that's because they ran it against women's figure skating (retarded)
I don't think sasuke will be canceled anytime soon and I hope it does not....but that is pointless to argue about, whatever happens happens.
If it were to be cancelled though, it would be some consolation if G4 were to continue with ANW in my opinion. Hell maybe the All-Stars and Uncli would start trying to get on OUR show haha!

Nah, I doubt they're gonna take it down. It's probably just a line the lawyers forced them to put in, so people can't come back after they had been accepted, and be told "Sorry, never mind", and expect a lawsuit with the expectation that they were guaranteed the right to compete or whatnot.
You know how sue-happy this frickin country is.

I'm hoping ya'll are right on this. Though in the event it is canceled we will then find out if the contract with M9 was to produces a trials or a show. If it is directly tied to entries to Sasuke then ANW will not happen. Ya'll already know I want Sasuke to continue to hoping TBS still gives it life after this.

BTW reading in the Ninja Warrior Facebook at some of the replies and it seems ANW is open to the public this time (to watch as an audience).

It was last time for the most part....just no where to sit really. It was? I remember them having a strong NDA. Maybe they mean it's going to a) air closer in date so people can talk about it, b) live (nah that's not going to happen). I was always under the impression that it was just the competitors who were there and walk ins rather than an actual "audience". Maybe they have something else in mind?

They invited people to come watch, but just for the qualifying rounds. Semis and finals were closed to everyone except the people in them.
