Bob Barr for president! Libertarians! just kidding... i said that because I have a good friend with that EXACT NAME. Same spelling and everything, no freaking joke xp I didn't vote since I'm not old enough. I don't really know what to think... I'll just say that I HOPE Obama knows what he's gotten himself into... I HOPE he knows what he is doing, and I HOPE he doesn't screw us over big time. I'm putting all my faith in him... what else is there to do? Don't screw up... Granted he doesn't get assasinated (Didn't they have to put that guy in bullet proof glass last night?) Obama is one of the single most powerful men on earth. The leader of one of the largest and strongest countries. He doesn't have much experience so he BETTER know what he's doing. Everything is on his shoulders now and I hope he can carry the burden... Hope this doesn't sound like I'm pro Mcain or anything ^ because i didn't see enough of either of them to get a good honest opinion, even if Mcain had won i would've said the same thing about him, I'm just saying that Obama has a huge responsibility now. (Obligatory SpiderMan Quote here) So he better have a plan.

Don't screw up... Granted he doesn't get assasinated (Didn't they have to put that guy in bullet proof glass last night?) Their mighty shield that will stop any bullet. Except from the side. I find "Fasten your seatbelts" to be just as applicable.

today in social studies, my teacher showed a video of Obama in Illinois at 2004. Dude even back than he was a great man.(Hilary Clinton was there even then) He said said the same thing as last night "This isn't black America, this isn't white America, this isn't latino America, this is United States of America!" He sounded like he was running for president in that speech!(He made the speech for John Kesly but Bush won)

Just thought I'd try to start a bit of conversation here.
What are you views on....
1. The war in Iraq: Do you agree that we have to get the troops out, or should we stay and "finish the fight"?
2. Proposistion 8: 'Nuff said, do you agree with it? (If you don't wknow what this is... look it up.)
Like I said before, I'm not that into politics that much... So if there is anything you want to add feel free!

Ill touch on iraq since i kno what it is...
WE MUST LEAVE! There is no logical reason why we should be in Iraq. Fighting for freedom of speach? bulls**t! we went their for oil. We should pull out and fight the war we should be, the war in Afganistan. Why? Because thats where Al-quida is, Osama, but were still in a place where we are sending Americans lives to be shot and killed for no purpose at all.

Bush had hints from other coutnries that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction.
Why is it OUR responsibility though?
because were freaking america, we help everybody.
And because of 9/11.
I have a cousin in Iraq too btw, so if you think my opinion would change based on not actually having family there, then you're wrong.

[quote author=thgiladab board=talk thread=218 post=4703 time=1225940972 1. The war in Iraq: Do you agree that we have to get the troops out, or should we stay and "finish the fight"?[/quote] We're only there because we wanted cheaper oil (and look how well that worked out <_<), Bush just saw 9/11 as the perfect opportunity, Osama was supposedly hiding in Afganistan (and even then it wasn't a war with Afghanistan if it was as they say, just against Al-Quida) and so was alot of Al-Quida, so just sent troops over there, then worked their way over to Iran, then from there worked their way over to Iraq, how much of Afganistan do you hear about in the news anymore, besides that its been over 7 years now, with all the troops they've sent it'd be possible to find one guy by now, they keep finding the ever changing #2 guy, but if they found Osama, they'd have to get out and they'd have no excuse for their fight to win oil, lets just hope this changes now that Bush is on his way out
I say if gays want to get married they should be allowed to, I'm not gay but its not like they chose the way they are, I mean if they want to be like that, go ahead. Maybe I can understand what its like to be different because I'm only attracted to Anime girls but its still a good point.

Prop 8 passed, and something similar/identical passed in Arizona, while gay adoption has been banned in Arkansas and something far more complicated has happened in Florida, where basically any couples in a civil union have been denied marital rights.
To sum up, what in the flying f*** just happened?
Most of these will probably be overturned, but it's just insane that they actually got voted in.
On the plus side, medical marijuana has been legalised in Michigan.

Supposedly, the Army is in Iraq because it is looking for weapons of mass destruction. Nevermind that quite a few intelligence officers said that they weren't there, a few of Iraq's neighboring countries said that the weapons were there and that was good enough for Bush (nevermind that most of the people over there hate each other based on differing interpretations of the same source material for their religion and would try just about anything to kill people who don't think the exact same way they do).
Long story short, no one found the WMDs. Which brings up the question of "Why are we still over there?" To keep the peace in a civil war that we helped start? Supposedly, some of the Iraqis still want us over there to keep the violence down. As comedian/political satirist Bill Maher once said, "Yes, we are keeping the violence down. In much the same way Daddy stops hitting Mommy when the Police are at the door."
We were originally supposed to get Osama Bin Laden. Remember that guy? Orchestrator of the 9/11 attacks? The guy we were supposed to hunt in Afghanistan for despite the fact that most of the hijackers were from Saudi Arabia, a United States ally? I gave up on his capture ever happening when I saw a CNN scrawl that read "Usama Bin Laden."
The only plus to all of this is that now, people from my generation (and the generation of 99% of the people on this board) have an idea of what Vietnam must have been like when that war started to go into the crapper.
For a real good rant on this, watch Lewis Black's "Red, White, & Screwed" comedy special. It's on Youtube in full concert. Just search for "girlsupremacy" and click on that member's playlist option.
As for Propostion 8: Gay people want to get married? Let them. They have as much right to suffer as everyone else.

Bob Barr for president! Libertarians! I'm quoting this because someone needs to say "Go Libertarians!" without sarcasm. ... "Go Libertarians!" Oh, and good luck to anyone trying to watch the CNN scrawl for 30 minutes without finding a really bad typo.

As for Propostion 8: Gay people want to get married? Let them. They have as much right to suffer as everyone else. Ethically, I see no reason to prevent gay couples from getting married. Economically, I'm willing to hear both sides. For supposedly godless nation, this seems to have raised a lot of fervor. /is from Pennsylvania //and is Catholic ///never said I had to approve of gay couples getting married.

I stole it from my Dad who stole it from half the comedians in the country who stole it from each other. Quite frankly, I don't really think it's that much of a joke (more truth really but nevermind).
In all seriousness, America was supposedly was built upon Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. The Declaration of Independence reads "All men are created equal." Off course, that actually meant all men are created equal except for women, indians, and blacks. It doesn't surprise me that Gay people don't get equal rights, because (as we all know) anyone who is unique from anyone else is subhuman because they have upset the status quo.
Gay people are supposedly a threat to the Family, despite the fact that families with straight parents are just as likely to be screwed up as families with gay parents. Let them get married; their marriages are going to have the exact same divorce rates as straight people.

I feel as though I've all ready started some drama on this topic, so all I'll say is even though I don't approve of it, let them get married, it's there choice, their life, let them do what they want to(Go Brittany from Shot at Love 2)
