(not something I need to be explained, just which does everyone use more?)
Still hung up on this guy's name, here's a little poll to share my frustration with my self saying it the American way at times. I find saying "Takeda-San" helps as it automatically makes me say it the Japan way, TawKeDa (no emphasis on the E, like most Japanese words)
Yeah we've established it's hard to describe the different ways you can say a name when only in written form, but you know the difference! The way Dave Wittenberg on G4 says it, and the way everyone at Mt. Midoriyama (and hopefully everyone here..) says it.
I find my self using both equally, sometimes when I'm not thinking I will blurt "TuhKayDuh" kind of like Wittenberg. the third poll option is the one for me because I don't know which one I inexplicably use more.

I honestly can't tell which one I use more. I'm guessing I say it the American way more, but that's if I had to choose which one I likely say it as.

Tah Keh Dah the way it's supposed to be pronounced. Given also that I watch and have gotten used to the Japanese/TBS version more and almost never the G4 version it's easy to stay on track with actually pronouncing his name correctly. I think if someone is used to seeing the G4 version it's inherent that people will pronounce it incorrectly (similar to Nakata and even Shunsuke's first name). Maybe if people listened to the Japanese broadcast more they might get used to hearing it and actually picking it out of the sea of other sounds they don't understand.

It depends for me, though I usually pronounce it the American ("Tuh-kay-duh") way. So yeah, I've kind of been brainwashed from the G4 episodes that I've watched.  |

Finally someone who can actually type it the right way. Tawkedah is way more misleading. I know how to say it the right way. (Took multiple years of spanish and it's very similair in the way you prononuce the verbs) yet I still say it the G4 way. The weird thing is, even though I say Takeda wrong, I say the other 5 the correct way. Dunno, Takeda just seems right. kind of like Rye komiya |

I know "Rye" is wrong, but after heraing Dave Wittenburg say it sooo many times it just sticks. And for whatever reason Takeda the way G4 says it is the way I say it, even if I know it's wrong.

Hey I still have issues with Yamada's name  I say Ya MAH Dah (with emphasis on the 2nd syllable) just like G4 does it.. but it's actually a soft accent on the FIRST syllable (still same pronunciation) so it goes YAH mah dah. So I totally understand about pronouncing things out of habit. I guess because I don't watch G4 Ninja Warrior anymore I'm able to ween off it a bit more  P.S. Don't get me started on how I hear people pronounce Ryo's name.. for the love of God it's NOT RYE-OH... |

I never watch NW anymore either because whenever I turn on G4 all that's EVER on is Cops and commercials for ITT tech. My little way of knowing the difference is Wittenberg says YuhMahDuh, the Yuh being spoken really fast. I don't know if I'm teasing by adding a "Duh" to the end of that pronunciation, lul. and you're already spot on about how the Japanese say it, arsenette. P.S. Don't get me started on how I hear people pronounce Ryo's name.. for the love of God it's NOT RYE-OH... Same problem as a Street Fighter game, none of us knew it was Ryu & Ken, we all said RYE-U & Ken. Y just doesn't translate out to the sound of an E to some of those fragile minded Americans. |

Actual pronunciation. Ryo is more of a short clip of a sound (Try to listen when he's introduced in Sasuke 21) while Rio is a softer and more pronounced. At least that's what I'm told by my friend who has a son named Rio and knows Ryo Matachi. Ryo has more of an emphasis as on strong one syllable word.. hard to explain.. while Rio flows more almost into 2 syllables.

Actually I've always been into the Japanese way. It might be easier for me since the Italian accent is more similar to the Japanese one - well, more than English . And since when I managed to watch some TBS clips (before whatching the tournament live) I've always tried to use the Japanese pronunciation- and kept freaking out when my brother came up with things like Na-GAAAAAAH-no or Nuh-gah-SAh-keeh.
@ Arsenette kinda like Rio= Ree-Oh and Ryo= ReeOH? I'm probably wrong but wanted to try.
