Sasuke has often been marketed as the world's toughest obstacle course so let's say from 1997 it is designed that way from the start with the obstacles that appeared on the show. Now the hardest hypothetical course is up for debate but that is for another thread. This is my opinion on the hardest (reasonable) course.
Stage 1
Step slider into rolling hill,
Rolling escargot (26 working version with 28's landing pad)
Spin Bridge (28)
Jumping Spider (19)
Half Pipe Attack (20)
Warped Wall (31)
Flying Chute (19)
Tarzen Jump (10-12)
Lumberjack climb
Time Limit - 125s, want to go harder 120 and borderline impossible 115.
Stage 2
Rolling Log (38)
Swap Salmon Ladder into 2 plank unstable bridge
Balance Tank (25 with 26's angle)
Backstream (29, the force that Kanno and Asa beat)
Reverse Conveyor
Wall lift (2-20)
Time limit - 110s, hard 105, harder 100, border line impossible 90.
Stage 3
Roulette wheel into doorknob grasper (26)
Body Prop
Floating Boards
Cliffhanger Dimension
Swing Edge
Vertical Limit Tri (if mentioning it is not a spoiler then the you know what version)
Flying bar (25-26 with Sasuke 14-17 pipe slider final jump.
Final Stage
The current final but with the 20 rung salmon ladder from 32 with the same 45 second time limit. Borderline impossible 40s.
So obviously the course looking like that from the start would be virtually unbeatable for the early competitors and thus cancelled soon but we'll say some powerful, wealthy and influential Japanese executive becomes absolutely enamored with the idea and uses their influence to ensure it is aired and funded (the course may not even need to be take down just maintained). The show also has a stellar marketing campaign and becomes a phenomenon. Let's say the prize money is a massive 1.5 billion Yen which equates to 10 million USD (obviously adjusted for inflation in the 90s and 2000s) and the best performing competitor receives a small prize and the first competitor to beat a stage receives a bigger prize (perhaps if they choose a harder time limit they receive more) as well as a lot of fame. The show still has the standard format with 100 competitors being chosen and the tournaments still occur at the same time as our time. The competitor list for each tournament is also the same as our time. Competitors would start obviously training harder and start building replica's earlier.
What do you guess the best result would be for each tournament? How long do you think it would take for competitors to even reach the wall? How long would it take for stage 1 to be beaten? How long for stage 2, 3 and even 4? Who would you realistically guess it could be for each? What would you guess the best results for competitors like the all stars, shin sedai, athletes, Morimoto sedai etc would be?
