So Takeda is known as one of the unluckiest competitors, with 13 for 13 Stage 3 fails despite being positioned as a shoe in to beat the Final if he ever made it that far. However I personally associate the term unlucky with extenuating circumstances like weather etc. rather than lack of skill. I actually think a lot of his fails on Stage 3 were due to issues like lack of stamina or technique, with his shoulder issues being the only genuine form of rotten luck he's had, but even then in most cases I don't think he would've cleared the courses where his shoulder compromised him. I've analysed all of his Stage 3 runs as an example of what I mean.
 failed due to fatigue
you could argue that he was unlucky due to running in the rain, though it was fair game for everyone. His grip also just gave out on the Pipe Slider, whether this would've been the case in the dry due to the additional strain of gripping wet apparatus, I don't know. I'm also unconvinced he'd be able to clear the jump given his history with the obstacle even later into his career.
 failed due to fatigue
let go because his shoulder played up, but given what happened in 12, would've failed Cliffhanger or Pipe Slider
just missed the jump, though his shoulder breaking due to hitting the apparatus was HELLA unlucky and a horrendous oversight on behalf of the producers
had shoulder issues that tournament but failed due to grip rather than shoulder pain, and would've probably failed Pipe Slider anyway
-16: would've failed Pipe Slider regardless due to 14-17's jump
completely missed the landing platform, he was clearly exhausted so probably went for it before his grip gave out
 just gassed out
this was admittedly the most unlucky run of his, as his fail was due to a simple mistake sticking his leg too far out on the Spider Flip, and with the Gliding Ring being a lot easier as the final obstacle, he may well have been able to clear otherwise.
 just gassed out
Personally I would say Kong is the most unlucky competitor due to being straight up robbed from Kanzen in 24 due to a simple oversight rather than lack of skill, as well as Darvish who's been affected by extenuating circumstances like weather, injury etc. for the last 5 straight tournaments.
