Analyzing the First Stage editing of every number (#1-#50)

Hello! In case you're wondering where the heck my Kōji posts are, don't worry, I will be getting back to them soon, I'm just working on this little side project. After I made the post about how #15 has been edited in every tournament, and because a friend of mine wanted to see this, I've decided to show off how many Full Runs, (FR) Digests, (DG) Mid-Cuts, (MC) and All-Cuts (AC) each number had. Before we get into it, there are a few things I should mention.

- I am human, and I got my data from SASUKEpedia. There may be mistakes. Please tell me if you find one.

- Any runs listed as "Shown on Navi/Trailer/Intro", etc. will be considered All-Cuts unless explicitly stated otherwise.

- The exception to this is "Shown on SASUKE YouTube channel" since most of those runs were shown anyway.

- Any number that is listed on SASUKEpedia as something such as "37A" or "62(?)" will not count.

- There are a couple other special scenarios that will be listed at the bottom of the post.

With that said, here you go, hopefully you learn something from this at least. (and hopefully #51-#100 doesn't also take me three weeks to do amirite)

*#8, #34 and #46 were all vacant in SASUKE 37, thus why they have 39 runs instead of 40. You could just consider these All-Cuts, but I don't since there wasn't even a run to cut at all. (EDIT 12/18/'23 - #7 and #38 were vacant in SASUKE 5 as well. Boy, I have a feeling the SASUKE book is going to make me edit a lot.) (EDIT 12/19 - I was correct, #14 and #48 were vacant in SK6.)

**#5 in the SASUKE 20 broadcast was shown to be Shin Nakagawa who was shown in full. However, Katsuhide Torisawa, who was digested, was visibly seen wearing #1905 despite being listed as "1905A" on SASUKEpedia. I've decided to count Torisawa as #5 there since he was literally wearing the number, and treat Nakagawa as if he didn't have a number.

***In SASUKE 29, Hiroshige Yamamoto was given #47 and shown on the start line, given a normal intro by the announcer, then the broadcast cut straight to his Jump Hang Kai fail after the beeps. I'm considering this a Mid-Cut, but only because #48 and #49 were both digested right after him, and music played during their runs but not Hiroshige's. There's an argument to be made for both digest and Mid-Cut, but I went the latter because rarities are cool.

Honestly, kudos to you for putting in the time and effort to do this!!

There isn't a huge amount of variation in these except for the obvious first couple of numbers, but I'm not surprised at the majority of these having 20+ All-Cuts given that historically #1-50 hasn't comprised particularly strong or interesting competitors, and those that are, tend to be random first-time clears anywhere within that field.

That said, it is weird how #10, #21, and #31 seem to have an anomalous number of full runs being shown, at 20+ compared to like 7-15 for the majority of others. No one I can remember of note has worn #21, Hioki has worn #31 twice and that's pretty much it, and #10 I think was worn by Ken Hasegawa once and Koji Saikawa. Would be interesting to deep dive into these to see if that's a number they usually designate to celebrities to evenly space out the field, as they are almost perfectly spaced out.

#25 being the most All-Cut number was sort of what I expected; not that number specifically, but somewhere in the #10-30 region given that the show usually starts to slow down at the #30-40s as that's when we tend to get the first competitors who either clear or at least do pretty well, historically. Then up to #10 it's mostly comedians who get shown in full.

Anyway, great work. Excited to see #51-100 as that's generally where the stronger competitors lie, happy to help if you want. Will also do a statistical analysis of this data once complete.

Yeah, I was honestly surprised that #2 wasn't fully shown more tbh, I always figured they didn't start cutting runs until like #4 or #5.

As for #10, #21 and #31, I can explain the latter two somewhat. They don't do this as often nowadays, but up until like, 25-27, they would put a graphic up showing "X Attempts" over "X Clears" pretty often. I'm guessing #21 and #31 have so many full runs because they would often show a graphic of "20/0" or "30/0" because they're nice, round numbers. I do think most if not all the remaining numbers ending in 1 will be shown a LOT, especially #51 and #81. #10 I can not explain, other than saying that Wataru Mori wore it in 37. Other than that, it just seems to be an anomaly.
