Early installment weirdness describes the weird nature or decisions of a show or form of media before it hits it's popular and well defined mainstream. tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/EarlyInstallmentWeirdnessDo you think there are any instances of this in Sasuke? You can sorta define early Sasuke as maybe 1-10.

I'd probably go with:
- Weird number placements for competitors bar All-Stars; often competitors in early tournaments would do well and get a number in like the first half of the field.
- All-cut Stage 1 and 2 runs in Sasuke 2 and 4
- Lack of competitor focus (I'd say from specifically 1-3); granted this was because Sasuke and hence it's competitors weren't established enough to focus on particular individuals, but it did just feel a bit empty having seemingly no one to root for and being almost full of randos.

Some examples I can think off:
- Original 13 all stars in Sasuke 6
- Balance and coordination based stage 3
- No ending buzzer for stage 2 up to Sasuke 7
- Daytime stage 2
- Indoor Sasuke 1
- Stage 2 being the hardest stage

Thank god nothing materialised out of that given that most of them retired straight after, and imo 13 is far too large a group to market effectively. Yep Stage 3 until Sasuke 4 really felt like it was sort of the odd third cousin in a family, where it had no idea what it wanted to be. Bit of upper body, bit of balance, etc. and far far too easy. I for one am glad we got the clear rate that we did in Sasuke 3 because I feel like that was the straw that broke the camel's back that ultimately let to the producers thinking "right we gotta do something about this". And yeah the old Stage 2 was way ahead of its time in terms of difficulty; 50 seconds to navigate a huge Spider Walk and three more obstacles was no joke. I'd actually wager a fair few people even now would time out on it.

The weird numbers in SASUKE 3. Hasegawa and Shingo getting #10 and #13 despite mading deep to the Third Stage in the previous tournament. Shane getting only #28 despite being a member of a famous family, Tanaka wearing #84 despite being the best competitor in SK2 and last but not least Kujirai getting #98(!). It reminds me a lot of SASUKE 27.
PS: I find really cool the Second Stage in the daytime during Sasuke 2 and 4. Imagine a Third Stage or even the Final during daytime.

This was an issue with pretty much all of the early tournaments with the exception of the All-Stars really. #1-96 would always be random af, while the All-Stars would eventually occupy #97-100. Tatsuya Yamamoto wore #68 in 4 after making the Final, Miura constantly got low numbers, etc. Also Yamada ran Sasuke 29's Stage 3 for fun. It was interesting, but didn't have any of the grandeur from the lighting effects etc. A dark Stage 3 really feels like just you against the course. That Stage 3 in the daytime just kind of looked ugly, just like scaffolding with a few odd looking structures underneath.

Its cuz they didnt know in the start that numbers are as important as they are.

Hmmmmmmm, cutting literal finalists from Stage 1 & 2, such as with Yo Takashi in 1, and Takayuki Kawashima and maybe Tatsuya Yamamoto in 4. I do get they don't have much time to show many people, but they literally made the finals! Although, some finalists nowadays do get cut from time to time (Shunsuke in 31, Omori in 38, I think that's it). But still. Also Stage 1 from 1-4 being short-ish.

That's a really good point, actually, and definitely something that sets Sasuke apart. The competitors on Takeshi's Castle, for example, are basically just nameless lemmings. As far as I know, we never find out who they are or get to know them in any way. The point of the show is just to watch people fail in embarrassing and hilarious ways. The competitors on Sasuke, however, are treated with respect. They're the stars of the show and arguably just as important as the course itself. But Sasuke 1-2 feel more like Takeshi's Castle in that we don't really know much about the competitors.

Kawashima was actually cut from a few other tournaments, those being 19, 29, and I think 22. Asaoka was cut from 15, (one of the worst editing decisions in SASUKE history IMO) and Kongu was cut from 31's Stage 1. Aside from the ones you mentioned, I think that's every instance of a finalist being cut.

Admittedly didn't remember that when typing, Kawashima was digested in 22 as part of the "high numbers" digest which includes Iketani. Other than that, that's about it, and that's right. Also, to add on to this thread: - Stage Two being commentated by multiple people (in SASUKE. ANW does exist). In SASUKE 4, Hatsuta commentated the first half of Stage Two. Then Furutachi picked up from #64 onwards. Granted, 37 people made it to Stage Two, and it's unlikely that there will be 35+ people making it that far in SASUKE.
