Sasuke 12. All Nagano did was slap the surface next to the button before actually touching it, small delay because of the rope. The only difference here between total victory was less than 0.1 seconds, but Nagano basically dominated the course. So let's say he was 0.1 seconds sooner, kanzen seiha, do they change the whole course?
That is what a total victory is all about, just look at 5 and 18. But I didn't find 13 any harder than 12, there were some basic changes like the first obstacle (that only stayed for the one time being,) most of which didn't seem to be an attempt to be more challenging. Did I miss any?
So why DIDN't the architects decide on a more dramatic change? It was only 0.1 seconds behind kanzen seiha, so did that single oz of time really repress an entire redesign to the course?

13 saw the inception of: Prism Tilt - Very dangerous obstacle, took out a few good competitors and later reappeared in KUNOICHI Cross Bridge - One of the more famed obstacles, used until Nagano's real kanzenseiha Crooked Wall - Obstacle that notably took out Akiyama in (I think) 13, stayed as a time killer for 3 tournaments Curtain Cling - Considered by some to be one of the hardest obstacles in pre-Shin-SASUKE.
So I'd have to slightly disagree with you, although they took much more drastic action in SASUKE 14.

Yea, on the contrary 13 had a lot of new obstacles, so much so that I think they called it the "Shin First Stage". Prism Tilt - New obstacle, took out a good deal of competitors Rolling Log - Now called "Sandan Rolling Maruta" because of the drops, which raised the difficulty of the obstacle greatly. Cross Bridge - New obstacle Jump Hang - The new vertical version was lethal. Many of the people who beat the Trial course (which was the same First Stage as 11's but with 5 less seconds) failed there. A really tough obstacle that was harder than the versions of the Jump Hang that came after it. Crooked Wall - New obstacle, took out Akiyama and Shinji Tarzan Jump/Rope Climb - Tarzan Jump was brought back and the shape of the Rope Climb was changed.
Stage 2 stayed the same.
Stage 3 introduced the Curtain Cling and I believe the Pipe Slider mat was moved just a little farther back.
And while SASUKE 14 had major changes, the ideal of the course was changed a bit. The time limit in SASUKE 14's First Stage was the most lenient time limit ever. This was probably to ensure that more people would get into the later stages to attempt the new obstacles.

Forgot to mention a big one: The Cliffhanger. In 12, the landing mat was basically under the third bar, so much so that someone could probably jump from the top level down to the mat, Shin-Cliffhanger style. They moved that back in 13.

To quote what I said in the other thread about sasuke 13....
"stage 1 would be like it was in 13 I think, stage 2 would have several changes maybe the salmon ladder in there, stage 3 be like from 14 onwards and the final would be the one it is now as it always changes when beaten. "

Yeah, they'd change the course, but I don't think it'd be as radical as 18 was.
