Has anybody else seen the comment that Ryan Stratus made over on the G4 forums? Here's the link: forums.g4tv.com/showpost.php?p=2230103&postcount=29For those that don't want to click on the link, here's what he (Stratus, not me) says: "Well good news from the webmaster. According to them, the ten people that are selected by the casting crew will go straight to Japan. No other eliminations, no other trials like ANC 2, just straight to it. Which is awesome. So lets hope that true!" I must say that while that does sound promising, it seems a little too good to be true. Considering the rumour that Kevin Pereira is also going, I find it hard to believe that G4 would be given 11 spots on Sasuke. Maybe the 10 selected will go to the Sasuke trials instead? I'm guessing the webmaster may be mistaken, but we'll wait and see! If G4 really has 10 spots than everyone, including past winners, will have to be selected back. Plus, what will that mean for the broadcasts? TBS definitely isn't going to show all 10, they hardly show their own STQers. Then, when G4 gets it, it will be even more G4 heavy than before. How many runs do they show per episode? Now over half the episode will be focused on G4 people which then in turn affects the broadcast overseas. I surely hope they will be competing in some trial. I guess time will tell.

Well when I'm 21 I'd have a chance because by Sasuke 32 G4 would probably be sending 50... -_-

I'm just going to make an outrageous guess, so if I'm right, I can say that I called it. Here's my prediction: Sasuke 23 will have 200 competitors and will be a two night event. 100 will come from Japan, and 100 will come from other countries such as US, China, Taiwan, UK, Australia, Greece....um Canada. That's why G4 will be sending so many people this time around. The US has 18 spots. Ten new guys, Colin, Bret, Brian, Levi, Mark, Luci, David and Kevin. And that's my guess. It may sound too extreme, but it still works with the information that was given. That's quite a bold prediction, but can't see it happening. And I doubt that G4 will have 10 representatives going to #23- I assume that the 10 competitors chosen will have to compete on some kind of course for the 2 or 3 spots available and maybe David and Levi also getting spots. But with G4, all logic is thrown out the window.

Which means less and less of the original Sasuke for us to watch and enjoy.. wait.. if it's a show by itself then that's different. They BETTER not be allowed to practice on the Sasuke course itself. Use the same trial set if need be but I'll have a cow if they use the Sasuke set. I didn't really see why you think they would, but when I was there the TBS people were pretty strict about no competitor on the course, and even mildly scolded me for touching the Jumping Spider with my finger!

My guess (having no inside info at this time) is that they're sending 10, but that includes Kevin, and whatever returning champions, probably leaving 5 or 6 slots open for new competitors?
So far everything from G4 says they ARE sending 10 people to actually run the course in Japan. Maybe the money the producers of Sasuke are making from the Ninja Warrior version is rivaling or exeeding that of the Japan brodcast and so they're looking to capitalize on it further?
Or maybe it's all about the exrea money from the Venom sponsorship. And G4 can simply afford to send more people now?
As an American competitor competitor / viewer I think it's great, though I know many of you purists disagree!

TBH I don't really care if G4 is involved or how many competitors are sent from the U.S. Competitors from all over the world should get an opportunity to participate. If G4 gets a certain amount of spots, then other networks or countries should as well. Although most competitors have been from Japan, there have always been competitors from other countries participate in SASUKE and I thnk that should continue. That will also help SASUKE to appeal globally and not just in Japan. I also think that many Japanese like seeing foreigners compete as well. Anyways, as long as SASUKE isn't turned into a joke, then I'm all for it. May the best compettor win!

Not every station that broadcasts Sasuke should get spots. Hell, we're lucky we get spots. I don't know how TBS or M9 make money off of us watching their show through G4 (other than selling the rights), but for the sake of their show they should put on people who will draw viewers IN JAPAN.
A diverse international group of competitors is great if Sasuke were a SPORT, but it's only a JAPANESE OBSTACLE COURSE. It'd be like saying they need to diversify the contestants in American Idol or Survivor because they draw big ratings in other countries.
Having said all that, 10 people to Sasuke!!?! Awesome! Though I suspect it's 10 Americans competing in an American obstacle course, the winner going to Japan with Kevin, Levi, and David.

If you want more international flavor, have it like Kunoichi 6 where 20 different countries were showcased. That way a country can get behind their representative(s). If it is 10 people actually competing though, there's going to be problems. While I'm definitely excited and happy for the people entering, as they will get a better chance at competing, I'm dissapointed that the broadcasts won't be as detailed as we like. For many of our Americans, you'll be either digested or cut completely in the TBS broadcast, which will suck. I highly doubt TBS will show all 10 of the ANW's runs in their full form. Then, when G4 gets their hands on it, it will be almost all G4, with little of the other 90 people competing. Again, this is just speculation.

I think there will be ten people competing, but not 7/8 new w/ Kevin, Levi and prob. David.
I think every past winner
Colin Brett Levi Brian Mark Luci David Kevin
Then with 2 winners.
If a past winner declines, then one more spot is open.

Then, when G4 gets their hands on it, it will be almost all G4, with little of the other 90 people competing. Again, this is just speculation. This is my issue as well. G4 sells Sasuke as Ninja Warrior to everyone else in the world. The more G4 gets their hands on it the less and less Sasuke looks like Sasuke. I get really friggin' frustrated because they keep editing out what makes Sasuke "Sasuke" by adding the BS G4 likes adding. Even simple things like putting Olivia's failed 21 run 8 times in a row.. they could have used that time to show more of the course and *gasp* other competitors? I've just never seen a TV station from another country monopolize it so badly. JET who has a hell of a lot more credit for keeping the Sasuke spirit alive in their broadcasts (for a heck of a lot longer than G4 mind you) doesn't take over the broadcasts the way G4 does. Instead of G4 taking the time to produce their own show they bastardize the original. Here is a golden opportunity to produce their own show in conjunction to Sasuke .. not in lieu of. Hell.. they can make money selling ANW's show (BY ITSELF) along with their bastardized copy of Sasuke to the other countries. TBH I don't really care if G4 is involved or how many competitors are sent from the U.S. Competitors from all over the world should get an opportunity to participate. If G4 gets a certain amount of spots, then other networks or countries should as well. Anyways, as long as SASUKE isn't turned into a joke, then I'm all for it. May the best compettor win! I agree with this 100% I found it interesting that after Sasuke 22 and showing almost no coverage of the Americans in the actual TBS broadcast they then showed that Norway went to Muscle Park to film stuff for their broadcast with Toshihiro Takeda. I'm hoping they have more shots - even if it's just one from each country. My guess (having no inside info at this time) is that they're sending 10, but that includes Kevin, and whatever returning champions, probably leaving 5 or 6 slots open for new competitors? As an American competitor competitor / viewer I think it's great, though I know many of you purists disagree! I do think it's the money from Venom since I know they are having money issues (as is everyone these days - not just the USA). This is a risky move if they are doing that. If they piss off the core audience (which *gasp* is Japan).. they will lose ratings and ultimately cancel Sasuke. People keep forgetting it's NOT an American show. Sure they can spawn a spinoff here in the USA where it will die a very quick death.. but the actual audience in Japan HAS to love the series as much as we do. If they are turned off by the circus atmosphere they will stop watching like they did back in Sasuke 9-10. If that happens more.. kiss Sasuke in Japan goodbye. It's 12 years old and quite frankly I'm shocked a show has lasted THIS long in Japan. (Hell... even here). Let's see if this new stunt from the M9 producer is going to spell disaster in Japan.

My thoughts on it are this. 10 Americans are picked for the ANW. Yes, even past winners have to re-enter. Competition to determine the top 3, who go off with Kev to Japan. Hopefully there will be other sompetitors from other countries as well, just like in Kunoichi 6. Sasuke stays Sasuke and stays on the air. Yeah, I know, it's never that easy

Whatever happens in ANC5, every competitor should get a chance to showcase their talent and skills in a fair and impartial method. If G4 chooses 10 competitors, so be it. Then those 10 people compete to see who has the best time etc. Why is this so difficult?

Its so difficult because G4 is unpredictable

They could build a course and book 10 extra return flights, or they could send people directly to Japan. One of these options is cheaper and much less hassle...

I'm going to directly refute that with, what is in my simplistic mind, a realistic timetable for the Mikhail Baryshnikov Memorial Challenge, assuming Sasuke does tape on the 12th (as implied in the other thread).
8/29-30: Taping of American Ninja Stuff 8/30-9/7: Airing of American Ninja Stuff, announce Team USA 9/8-9: G4 and Team USA assemble at SoCal, go over itineraries 9/9-10: Depart LAX 9/11: Media Blitz in Tokyo 9/12: Sasuke 9/13: Depart Tokyo
Your idea may be cheaper, but it is by no means the best option. Trying to track 10 different flights at the same time as you're flying is one big headache, and with something like this, I'd have to think that G4 would like to run a tighter ship than that. Think of it as an over-elaborate field trip or a sports team going to an away game.

G4 dishing out plane tickets and all expenses for the trip for 10 people? No way that's happening...maybe they'll tell the finalists they have to pay their own way to Japan? Or perhaps be Olivia's 'personal assistant'? LOL

Don't know what airfare to Japan is, but I'm betting that a flight from LaGuardia to LAX is cheaper. And since the trip to Japan is still the prize here, there's no way they'll ask Team USA to foot the bill. IIRC the only game show that still offers free transportation is Cash Cab.

G4 got back to me today, turns out I have to make a new video and enter it like everyone else if I want to go. That seems fair enough, I just wish I had known a little sooner. Probably have to recycle a lot of footage?
