Another tournament, another digest of Tada Tatsuya's runs. Why? If someone can offer me a legitimate explanation for why they do this, that would be nice. But until then, I'm upset. Here's several reasons why they shouldn't have done this, in my opinion.
1.) His first stage clear was down to the wire, 0.2 seconds. I would've loved to see that run!
2.) He is one of the best current competitors on the show.
3.) By not showing his runs, that takes away any legit chance at kanzen. So when he was the last man standing, I knew he was probably doomed on the 3rd stage.
4.) There's plenty of other less relevant competitors that they could have digested instead. Why digest the man who literally had the best performance in this tournament?
So, what do you guys think? Is there any reason the producers of the show are doing this?

At least it made the 3rd Stage results less predictable.

It was obvious that he was going to fail Stage 3 anyway given that 1) there was only 10 minutes left of the broadcast and 2) they teased a Vertical Limit fail and no one had got that far until Tada and he was the last man standing. I don’t think the digesting really had much of an impact there, unlike in 38 where his double digest alone spoiled his result.
What I did find weird was how the last competitor to clear Stages 1 and 2 usually gets more hype as they’re the ‘best competitor left standing’ yet Tada still got digested. It just seemed like an odd move, especially on Stage 2.
I have a feeling that the producers assume that him clearing is a foregone conclusion to most fans hence why they digest him, similar to how Drew and Jun Sato were. Everyone knew they were going to make Stage 3 so they figured what’s the point in showing the run. That said, given that he cleared S1 with only 0.2 seconds left and in the rain no less that would’ve been a really nail biting run to watch.
And about other competitors you know my stance on this. Celebrities hoarding the majority of screen time is unideal but to be expected for the ratings, and to be fair the editing was better than in 38 largely due to fewer Dragon Glider attempts and mid-cuts so that we don’t have to watch people take 60 seconds on the Rolling Hill. There were some parts of Stage 1 that did drag on for way way too long, like #60-61. They could’ve cut 30 seconds of dialogue and shown Tada’s run instead, but oh well.

Personally I thought the editing this tournament overall was bad. Yeah I figured the celebs were gonna get a lot of screentime, but it really felt like they hogged the tournament (as opposed to before where they got a lot of fluff, but the veterans still got their share mostly). It kind of killed the suspense in Stage 3 for me and by the time we got to Tada I knew he wasn't making the Final Stage. Felt really anticlimactic.
On the other hand I'm more annoyed they skipped Suzuki's Stage 2 run, the guy made friggin history by becoming the oldest competitor to clear Stage 2. I guess with 7 celebs in Stage 2 they had to make some cuts, but still.

This is one of the reasons why I hate Inui. His editing of the previous tournament was horrendous because he digested Tada TWICE in both the last tournament and AGAIN in this one! Tada deserves a lot more f**king hype and credit for making it to the Final Stage two years ago and going the furthest out of everyone in this tournament. Not to mention that he’s probably the second best challenger on the show now behind his best friend Morimoto and should NEVER get digested unless he starts to decline. Like I said before in many other threads, all Inui wants to do is just excessively focus on Kawaguchi and Darvish who have both started a decline and are older than Tada. I hope this teaches him a lesson not to spotlight them so much and give them ridiculously high numbers next time.

I guess with 7 celebs in Stage 2 they had to make some cuts, but still. As mentioned there's nothing you can really do about the last Stage 3 run being towards the end of the broadcast spoiling that there was going to be no Final Stage attempt. It's happened in literally every single tournament before then, and I appreciate that it sucks but there's no way around it. What I didn't like was how we all expected there to be a Final Stage attempt given that it was falsely advertised in the promo trailer, and then as we approached the end of the broadcast we all slowly realised it wasn't going to happen, which for me at least was a real letdown. We already know what the Final Stage looks like, so I can imagine for those who don't and were expecting a big reveal, it's doubly disappointing. Also, they teased a Vertical Limit fail in that same promo which spoiled where Tada was going to fail given that no one had failed there up until that point. I don't think the editing overall was as bad as 38, which isn't saying much, but as I've descended into really low expectations let's just say I wasn't unpleasantly surprised. We got far fewer drawn out runs from joke competitors compared to 38 given that the results on the whole were worse, and we got a lot of runs that skipped straight to the Silk Slider which prevented us from having to watch competitors take over a minute on the Rolling Hill which is probably the most painful part of Stage 1 to watch. We also got way more digests of Stage 1 fodder which sped things up a fair bit in a good way. Obviously there were some questionable editing choices like Araki getting cut and Tada getting the double-digest despite having a hella close Stage 1 clear, but I really don't think it's that bad given that every tournament in recent history has comprised of similarly bad editing choices. Also r/e Suzuki, I don't feel as though they regard oldest Stage 2 clear as much of a big deal as oldest Stage 1 clear, given that the latter hasn't been broken in 24 years now. Besides, Yuuji tied the former record only 2 years ago. Having a 43 year old on Stage 3 was pretty incredible though, especially when you consider how poorly the All-Stars were doing when each of them were that age. What I would really love to see is someone over the age of 40 reaching the Final Stage; Yuuji almost did in 37, but now with the Stage 3 renewal there's almost zero hope now. Yuuji's the only over-40 who could potentially clear Stage 3 but after seeing Ryo, Yoshiyuki, and Keitaro all fail before the Cliffhanger got me concerned lol.

I intentionally did not look at the time when Tada was running so I wouldn't have to know if he was gonna clear or not.
I think Yuuji has a good shot at clearing Stage 3 actually. Actually I think if the whole course is the same for 40 he has a very decent chance of making it to Stage 4 imo. He'll be 44 but still, he knows how to practice obstacles now, and his upper body hasn't seemingly reduced at all.
