Damn some notable absences this time out. No Sato or Takeda. Takeda I’m pretty sure has retired. So yeah… just Yamada and Shingo for the all stars this time.

lol @ Shingo and him getting 92. I guess he did technically go the farthest of the All Stars last time

I swear the numbers are getting more sporadic and less based on performance every time. Koji Saikawa is fricking number 9 hahaha.
Numbers 93-98 kinda suck ngl. I didn’t think Kawaguchi would get a huge drop given that Inui loves him but getting the highest number behind Yuuji and Yusuke despite failing Stage 1 twice in a row cmon.... Darvish as well got bumped up.
I’m probs being an a** about this but imo the last 10 runs should be the most suspenseful and in this case they’re just not. Mind you I am pretty excited to see Takeru’s comeback.
To be fair; having the strong competitors dispersed more evenly throughout the playing field makes it less likely that they get digested, which tends to happen when loads of clears or fails happen together.

Nah the numbers are definitely odder than usual this time. Also, 5 hour long broadcast.

Damn some notable absences this time out. No Sato or Takeda. in regards to sato, he tore his achilles tendon somepoint in the last 6 months so would not have been fit enough to compete

Stage 2 might also be exactly the same provided they aren't recycling footage from 38

Saikawa got 9? Interesting.
Figured Kawaguchi would get #98. At this point he's basically reserved for being the highest non-champion or All-Star. At this point though it's getting tiresome. He's had the same overhyped role since 2015. Ryo getting 89 though... interesting indeed.
Kind of wish Shingo got #96 and Yamada got #92 instead (honestly I'd bump Yamada to the 40s if I had my way).
Torisawa getting 1 though... that's a first.

Sugeta and Hayate got #20 and #35 respectively as well. Isa’s also number #55 running after that celebrity group in red shirts as he’s now become their trainer for 39.
Also i just feel like Morimoto is going to reach the Final Stage again this time round. Think about it, unlike most renewal tournaments they actually brought up the new Final Stage for the promo which may indicate that someone reaches there this time out. The course is basically exactly the same and unless they reduce Stage 1’s time limit we’re going to see similar numbers of clears.
Stage 2 I have no idea but the Salmon Ladder Nobori/Kudari is the same (great.....) and the Rolling Log is still there.
Stage 3 is basically exactly the same except the Planet Bridge has been replaced with some sort of obstacle similar to Cannonball Incline which would at least wear out grip more before the Cliffhanger. Also according to Sasukepedia the Dimension has been modified but I don’t know how whoever edited it knows this.
That said, it does appear to be raining during the broadcast so that could add some unexpected turmoil to the equation.

I'm fully hyped to see Yoshiyuki Ogata (#52) on the course. He's one of the top rock climbers in the world and has awesome grip & agility.

Is there a new group competing called the ‘Akko Corps’ (Aka means red in Japanese) being led by Isa? Numbers 51-55, of which Yoshiyuki Ogata is competing amongst them. I thought they were a bunch of joke competitors at first but considering one of them is a world class rock climber clearly not..... I think I got confused between them and those actors that competed in red shirts in 38 with that lady on the sidelines.

Inui, why are you leaving almost the whole course exactly the same and not upgrading it to that of Shin-SASUKE level? I honestly blame your low budget for this than you.
It’s honestly ridiculous that rarely any of the obstacles are going to become different, especially as it will once again allow so many fricking joke challengers to get as far as the Dragon Glider and hog the spotlight against stronger challengers like Araki, Tada etc. who might sadly get digested again. It will also be the worst ever renewal tournament with possibly just one obstacle replaced/modified, even 5 is better as it introduced the iconic Jump Hang and Warped Wall which lasted for many years.
Also in terms of numbers, the only set I approve of is the RAMPAGE getting knocked down to the late 50s. Everything else is just awful like the Black Tigers again grouped in the high 40s, Keitaro yet AGAIN getting 90 even though he’s never once made it past Stage 2, Tada getting a lower number even though he did well last time round, but the most ridiculous of all is #96-98 preferably because of Inui’s fricking bias towards Kawaguchi and Darvish who didn’t deserve to get bumped up, considering their last two performances and Yamada who shouldn’t have even competed again undeservedly receiving mid-90s when placing him right after his Black Tigers would’ve been better, especially given that he has failed Stage 1 for the last seventeen times in a row.
No offense but this tournament is basically SASUKE 38 2.0 and it will easily be dislikable for me, since I believe that there’ll also be a lot less clears this time owing to the wet weather which gave most of the serious challengers (including Morimoto) trouble in 37. I’m just going to wait until next year for SASUKE 40, when the international challengers may be able to compete again, as they are so joyful for me to watch and much more than the Japanese celebrities and/or Yamada. Not to mention how it will also be another anniversary tournament that will also be celebrating 25 years of the show which will definitely make it a lot more exciting to watch than this year’s competition.

I agree the numbers suck but I don’t think that’s enough alone to write off an entire tournament that hasn’t even aired yet.
Besides, if anything the wet weather gave Sasuke 37 a degree of shock factor we haven’t seen in a long time until then and certainly not in Sasuke 38, so I’m actually pretty excited to see the carnage that occurs. Also, Sasuke 8 was one of the best tournaments of all time and it was taped during torrential rain, so again you can’t write 39 off due to it raining. The rain will also only affect Stage 1, which is the most stale/pitifully easy stage anyway; so at least it’ll add some much needed difficulty and ween out most joke competitors earlier anyway, which I think is what most people want at this point.
