Not a lot of 14 ~ 27. Then again Inui hates that era so... XD What's wrong with him?? He wasn't the director during those tournaments, which is also probably why most obstacles like Metal Spin, Jumping Spider, and Spider Flip did not return after 27.

Shame because those were some of the best and most innovative obstacles.
28’s course was so drab and an omen of Inui’s sub-par creativity and affinity towards really controversial obstacles like the Backstream and Crazy Cliffhangers.
I’m hoping for a few new clever ideas for 39, but I’ve sort of given up hope at this point.

not that it will definitely happen, but I'm thinking they should do something like after yuuji's first kanzenseiha--when they brought back some potential older obstacles along with some recent and newer ones in 25's first stage. they should do something like that but add more newer and difficult ones instead of old and recent ones obviously--at least for stage one.

Seeing the new course is always like half the excitement for me. And even then, that's a LOT of excitement. Can't wait!

I think the problem with 5 and 18's renewals are that the focus was on Stage 1 hence they cut uber corners with Stages 2 and 3 (while 5 was arguably a pretty good Stage 2, 18 had some glaring shortcomings). 28 though had probably the worst renewal with so many botched ideas, production issues and underwhelming nerfs. 32's renewal felt more like to 31 what 14 was to 13 being Act 2 of the previous tournament's changes. Honestly there's a lot of stagnant obstacles I wouldn't mine being done away with and I hope 39 can do just that.

I'm not getting my hopes up given that the later the renewal, the more underwhelming it's often been (except for Sasuke 25, most of which was undone by 26 reverting Stage 1 back to the old format and 27 watering down an otherwise almost perfect Stage 3 renewal). 32's was obviously the most recent and was by far the worst; Stage 1 was underdeveloped, Stage 2 was made even easier, and Stage 3 was made impossible. Why have the course designers become so lazy in the last few years?
Besides, Inui has apparently confirmed that the Fish Bone will return (in yet another modified state) and the Cliffhanger will undoubtedly get modified AGAIN (apparently now randomizing the orientation of the moving ledges which is unfair in the most literal sense), which should already be an indicator of what's to come. The only obstacles Inui hinted to replacing were the Planet Bridge and Pipe Slider MIGHT be replaced (according to SMF members who translated Inui's interview on Yuuji's YouTube channel) which is a positive as both were getting pretty stale and I'm looking forward to what they'll come up with; just please not another grip-strength obstacle but something a bit more technical that could potentially catch Morimoto out. Inui didn't mention anything on Stage 2 so I'm just gonna go out on a limb and say f*** all will be changed (though I'll be really annoyed if the Nobori/Kudari stays)
Also, before anyone brings this up, budget isn't an excuse to be lazy. Sasuke 5, while not my favourite renewal, showed that an evolutionary approach can be as effective as a revolutionary one such as 18's. We only got about 3-4 new obstacles (which could cost Inui a fraction of what it costs to set up and maintain the Backstream and all these motorised Cliffhangers - complexity doesn't always mean better, sometimes the simplest ideas are the best) but it absolutely annihilated the entire field. The most effective way to make the course harder 'cost-effectively' would be to only add a couple of new obstacles and modifications here and there, but do it such that they are followed by or precede an obstacle that'll make the latter of the two much harder. Examples being the Tackle before the Warped Wall, or the Rolling Log before the Salmon Ladder etc. I've thought of some ideas like bringing back a harder, more failable Drum Hopper and having it followed by the Body Prop as the two use the same muscle groups, but all this hopefulness is pointless lol. Basically, if competitors are too strong for a given obstacle, then make them weaker/more tired to bring out the full potential of the obstacle and thus make it more exciting and damaging.
