Sammy Sosa tested positive for roids in 03...
Gotta wonder what's gonna happen to him.

Wikipedia says it was in 2003.
Either way, though, what is this about? He continued to have a professional baseball career and now he's retiring.
Did you mean health-wise, or what?

oh, yeah, Around the Horn and Pardon the Interruption had bad info...
BTW, on Sportscenter, they had the top 6 HR hitters from 1994-2004. Mark McGuire, Sammy, Barry, Palmero, Thome, and someone else I can't remember were on that list...only Thome has not yet tested positive for the roids.
and I meant, like, his records, hall-of-fame status, etc.

Well, my source is the New York times. It's not like it matters, though. Any source can and will lie.
As far as I know, his records stand and he will be inducted into the hall of fame.

Well, my source is the New York times. It's not like it matters, though. Any source can and will lie. As far as I know, his records stand and he will be inducted into the hall of fame. Mark McGwire's records still stand, yet he hasn't been inducted. In fact, he hasn't ever received more than 25% of the vote (you need 75%) in any of the 3 years that he has been eligible. If if wasn't for the steroids controversy, McGwire would likely have been elected in his 1st or 2nd year. And he never even tested positive. So I do think that the steroids connections/accusations will affect Sosa's chances of making the Hall of Fame. But I guess we'll find out eventually.

Yes, I read that as well. It sounds like he diverting attention away from the controversy and reminding people of his statistics (which, by themselves, are certainly Hall-of-Fame worthy). Of course he isn't going to say "yeah I did pretty well but everyone reckons I was juiced up so I'll probably have a hard time getting accepted". It should be remembered that it is sportswriters who decide if Sammy Sosa gets into the Hall of Fame, not Sammy Sosa. Another thing that should be noted is that this quote (i.e. his retirement) was made before the New York Times report on him testing positive in 2003. So that could change things.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
I don't understand the allure of steroids, personally.

I think the phrase "Performance Enhancing Drug" explains any possible lure there is. Also, I'm disappointed that this Sammy was not the topic of this thread. /Loved it back in the day //probably still better than Code Geass

Well yeah, I get that, but it just doesn't make sense.
I guess I just relate to the percentage of pro athletes who respect themselves enough to do the work it takes to be great instead of trying to cheat.
And that girl looks like Sailor Moon's sister or something.
And she looks familiar.

It's because you have a different kind of tunnel vision than they do. And that girl looks like Sailor Moon's sister or something. And she looks familiar. That's half the point, and this should help the memory

Tenchi huh? I have heard of that.... Back on topic, broadcaster and former MLB player Steve Stone was asked if he believes Sosa belongs in the Hall of Fame: "I don't," he replied. On Sosa saying recently that he was just going to sit back and wait to be inducted into the Hall of Fame: "Apparently now, the wait is going to be a real long time," Stone said. And Ozzie Gullien(White Sox Manager and Sosa's teammate from 89-91) "There's a lot of Hall of Famers that made mistakes in the past. I bet you a few Hall of Famers were doing illegal stuff, but I think right now the Hall of Fame people are put in a pretty difficult situation about who's going in and who's not." sports.espn.go.com/chicago/news/story?id=4264923espn.go.com/chicago/news/story?id=4264955espn.go.com/video/clip?id=4265525

ah, Sports Reference, great source, it even found the guy that my dad coached in Little League that never made it out of the minors.
Anyway, 2000, 1999, and 1998 is the time frame that he was thought to have taken steroids in, and his stats were best then.

I was talking about how he went from like 15 hrs a yr, to 30-40 hrs, then to 60 hrs, all within one season.

why did I read that as "hours"?
Honestly, all these quotes from players and quotes and whatnot really don't mean anything because no one's going to magically change their tune at this point unless they have to.
