Va here. Not too far from NC. Could be fun though to meet up and train at some point. Army obstacle course is super easy compared to Sasuke, but supplementing that with some other workouts over the course of a weekend could be fun.

Sadly they don't have kettlebells in my gym. Hell, they barely have a full set of dumbbells. These days I spend more time on the squat racks doing olympic lifts and squats and pull ups. I've also been riding the AirDyne to get some cycling power endurance for the mini-triathlon I'm competing in in July.

We have dumbbells in my gym, but I don't care for training power like that. Kettlebells have never really interested me.
My main power training is squatting and plyometrics.

I recently began training for it (though it's gojng to take some time). I don't do so as hard as I should, but I'm planning to take it up a notch (or five) as soon as the opportunitiy presents itself! As for whether Parkour aids in ability to perform in Sasuke, I also agree with Oti. I am a traceur myself (though admittedly not the best), and, although I enjoy it immensly, I think it's the usage of agility and co-ordination (and to an extent endurance and upper body strength) associated with it that really provide an edge, particularly in the first stage. For example, think of how similar the Warped Wall is to a Parkour style vertical wallrun.

If you're new to training, don't rush into it too much. Give yourself the needed time to recover. You'll know when you're ready to crank it up.

I think the real cranking up for me is going to be at the start of 2010, when I'll be able to take up things like climbing and cross country running in earnest. At the moment is mostly just various reps and keeping up my PK training whenever I can ^_^

You can climb and run now if you want.

I do Irish Dancing once a week and practice at home a bit. I am definitely not training for Sasuke. My training is purely Irish Dance. I used to be really fit when I was in gymnastics about 7 years ago- State Champion on the pommel horse baby! After my injury I stayed really fit by practicing dance a lot and competing at major championships. Now, my practice it's more informal, but I still in relatively good shape. My dance teacher said I doing well enough to compete at the regionals, so I'll probably have to go. If I qualify from there, she'll force me to go the world championships. Too much stress

Your teacher can't force you to do anything you don't want to do. It's like a football coach making his players wash his car, or something stupid like that. If you don't like it, there's always a way out.

Well, I guess I mean persuade me enough that it feels like forcing!

See, I really don't know if I want to do it or not. I'll have to wait and see.

Fair enough. Just remember: don't do it if you don't enjoy it. You should be spending that time finding what you DO enjoy. Good luck.

Because I'm 16, I put off training alot of times because I'm lazy, and I don't feel rushed because i have 5 years ahead of me to train. But another side of my brain says I need to get serious already....
As for the past 2 years, I've been on and off with my training...

I think you should take advantage of all that time. I know I would.
Also, if you get better, fewer people will laugh at you when you say you train. I still have haters posting on my videos.

Maybe we should start an amateur SASUKE league, set a date, find some places around the country with suitable equipment (Maybe in the yards where some have built obstacles), kind of like skateboarders used to, before it became so commercial. Maybe we can get local sponsors. Unsanctioned, not associated with G4 (unless they actually want to help), the winner gets a high quality video tape to submit to G4

It sounded good until you mentioned G4.

I grew up in a time when all the kids in the neighborhood used to get together in an empty lot and play baseball. Now only kids whose parents can afford the sign up fees play baseball, the rest play it on WII at the house. We could build obstacles in our yard, or find local parks with suitable equipment, and send out challenges to the rest of the SASUKE obsessed to come and compete. Maybe we can bypass G4, and go straight to monster9 with our winners, or not, just compete for the bragging rights. The ANW can come, and maybe find out that there are better warriors around, but they would stand in line, take their turn, nothing special.
