...so hard, I'm pretty sure I'm gonna vomit.
And that's pretty darn cool, since I don't remember the last time I vomited. Seriously, I think I was like, 11. Or 8. One of those.
I wish I would have brought my camera. I swear it looked like I was laminated.

I ran in a 5K race after vomiting.
Bachelor parties can suck sometimes. At least I finished with a 19:30.

I've felt this way before, I was 15 and at a track meet with another school. It was the first time I was going to try a distance run instead of just an all out sprint. I wasn't quite prepared for the endurance, it was only two laps but you can only really sprint for 3 quarters of an entire track before slowing down. I went out, all out and I was in heavy breathing so fast, probably the most pain I've ever been in. Head burned, lungs torched, I sat on the floor of the bathroom for a few minutes. I guess I recovered though.

Yeah, I've had times like that to. My out of shape friend ran 1/2 mile the other day and threw up like 16 times that day, lol.
But what makes me vomit isn't necessarily long running, it's when you have to do long sprints.
THOSE SUCK.
Like the 400 or 800. God I hate those so much.

Well yeah, this whole topic is pretty much about running a distance fast. I like sprinting, but even the 100 m is a tad long for me. I like the 40 yard, though.
When I ran that night I posed about above, I tried to run a mile in five minutes. I knew I couldn't do it, so I broke it up into segments. One minute running at 12 mph, two minutes walking at three.
I really thought my kidneys were going to explode.

That's a good idea.
The fastest I could ever do a mile was 5:12, and that was a while ago. I know I can crack 6 minutes, but it's been a while since I timed myself.

Yeah, it's HIIT (high intensity interval training). It's supposedly more effective than regular cardio training since your heart rate never quite returns to resting during it. It's also supposed to increase your metabolism for up to 72 hours afterward.
I need to improve my VO2 max. I can really feel myself struggling when I try to run fast for more than 30 seconds at a time.
Unfortunately, there's not really much information on improving one's VO2 max. Every source I've looked at just says it's genetic. So many people overlook the possibilities of training. :/

I ran a 400 in a meet that it snowed in...apparently, I'm in the idiot school district...ended up coming in last...what I learned, a pulled hamstring really sucks, always stretch before running. I couldn't run the 800 because only 7th and 8th graders could...I was in 5th at the time. But, I haven't run a mile in a long while, I may have, but, I never time my runs or keep track of the distances.

Actually, statically stretching before exercising isn't a good idea. The only stretches you should do are dynamic stretches. Those coupled with the rest of your warm up should prevent any injuries.
As boring as it is, I like running on a treadmill because I can control the speed and monitor my time and distance.

Treadmill is usually how I go too, but the treadmill doesn't force me to work my legs as much since the "ground" is moving for me, all I have to do is keep up with it. It's different from running outdoors where you have to propel yourself over the ground with your legs. I tend to feel that difference in my calves.

I run on the balls of my feet and use my calves the entire time either way, so I can't tell a difference.

My favorites are the 100 and 200 meter sprints. I'm really good at those. 100 isn't quite long enough though since it takes me a second to get to my top speed, and 200 is almost too long but it's just about perfect. When I reach 200 it's about when I start to get slower from my top speed.

How can the 100 m not be enough to reach your top speed?
I reach mine around the 50 m mark, I think.

Post by Badalight on Jun 21, 2009 1:14:35 GMT -5
No, it's enough to reach my top speed, it's just I'm not at my top speed for long enough. Yeah, I'm probably the same as you reaching it around the 50M mark, so I'm only running my top speed for 50 meters. That's not very good My top speed is fast but if I'm not doing it for very long then it doesn't really matter. That's why I like the 200M more, I'm at top speed for a longer time. During school when we had races when my coach blew his whistle for us to "start" the race I would be near the back of the group, but after I got to my top speed I was able to get ahead of everybody. If it's a 100M I don't really have enough time to get ahead of everyone.

Hehe, common occurance for me and a few others. Stupid bar nites in the army. We'd be pretty tore up and get up for PT the following morning. Start running and most of us would get sick. Needless to say felt tons better afterwards.
I ran the 400 and 800 back in high school and would come pretty close to losing it after those events.
